This is an excellent hotel. Location is good, rooms are small but efficient and spotless.
The breakfast is well worth the price. Desk staff are efficient and courteous. Word of warning- you must check in before entering parking lot. It's underground with a max height of 2 metres. Our VW van had only 2 inches to spare.
Overall great place to stay with reasonable prices.
Das Tyrol is a unique place...beautifully decorated, small and luxurious, it is located right in the heart of the museums area and within walking distance of the "ring." The owner is an art collector, and art work like paintings, ceramics, sculptures, and vases from talented Austrian and international artists is displayed throughout. The staff is very friendly, competent, and helpful. The breakfast buffet is one of the best we ever had in any hotel ... Freshest breads and croissants, fruits, cereals, cold cuts (including speck, a smoked prosciutto typical of northern Italy and the Tyrol area), smoked salmon, cheeses of all kinds, eggs made to order, and, last but not least...prosecco! We loved staying at Das Tyrol, and we hope to be able to go back there some day.
The hotel is very close to the metro, about a 5 minute walk. Hotel staff were friendly and always willing to try and help with any requests. The room was very clean and wifi reception was good. There is a supermarket just along the street and very good restaurants within easy walking distance
It is also within walking distance of Naschmarkt.
Staff was very friendly to us, even after checking in after midnight due to car problems. We booked 2 rooms. The beds were comfortable, the rooms were clean. I wish I could stay in the hotel longer than 1 night, maybe a return trip if I come back to Vienna...
One of the rooms was upgraded, possibly to get us next to each other? Anyway, was appreciated, but even the other room was still spacious enough and in just as good as condition.
They let us leave our bags there really almost all of the day of checkout before we headed out after dinner.
This hotel has large rooms, though the decor, furnishings and hallways are a little dated. Still it's clean and the staff are very kind and helpful. The breakfast room, food and staff are great. Also, I was able to check in immediately when I arrived instead of having to return later which was a great advantage. The best thing, however, is the location. It is in a fantastic spot, right in one of the best shopping and dining districts of Vienna. It's also close to two metro stations so you can easily get to other parts of the city.
The building and hotel are in an old state, which was worrisome for me when I got there, but I immediately took notice of the cleanliness of the room. The toilet down the hall was clean on a daily basis and the shower/sink area inside my room was spotless.
The hotel staff was very helpful regarding information on directions. I suggest you find Phil, a bookstore cafe where you can have a great breakfast while enjoying a wide range of eclectic, new books. Next to the hotel itself is a record store, the same place where a scene from Before Sunrise was filmed. The staff is friendly and you could spend some time browsing through the huge collection.
I would suggest this place to friends but not those travelling alone. I was by myself and the secluded nature of the room felt very lonesome, even though I was there for only two days.
Just southwest of Vienna's historical center, the Mariahilf district is home to the festive, sprawling Naschmarkt, an open-air market selling fresh produce from around the world, exotic spices, cheese, baked goods, meats, and seafood. Al fresco dining ads to the fun. Mariahilfer Strasse, the city's main shopping street, forms the district's northern border.
