Nice......but overpriced.

Pros: The on site restaurants had great food but pricey. The shuttle to get around the resort was nice.
Cons: Make a real beach. The lagoon doesn't cut it. If I go to the Keys, I want to swim in the ocean that the Florida Keys tourism council brags about.
Location: About 10-12 miles further south in Marathon is a beach called Sombrero beach. very nice beach.
My family has been waiting a long time to finally book a stay at Hawks Cay. We finally did. It started off bad. We arrived at 3:30pm and check in wasn't until 4:00pm, our room wasn't ready...understandably. We were told our room would be ready at 4:00 so we walked around the pool and lagoon area for 40 minutes and went back to the check in counter only to be told our room wouldn't be ready until 5:00pm this time. We started having bad feelings about this place now. We went back at 5:00 and still our room wasn't ready but they credited our account $100, which was a nice gesture. At 5:10 our room was ready. After finally finding our room, which we paid more for because it was an "ocean front" room. In our eyes and from previous stays at other "ocean front" rooms, we thought our "ocean front" room meant out the door and into the ocean. Well our "ocean front" room was kind of ocean front but no into the water here or there. We were in front of a marina where no swimming was allowed. Not that we would want to swim there because there was an awful odor coming from somewhere, maybe the marina area. It had the smell of a dirty, swampy, dead fishy trash can. No thanks. We called the lobby to ask where we could swim in the ocean. I am an avid snorkeler and wanted to try my new underwater camera. We were told there was no open ocean on the property to swim. What????? I'm in the Florida Keys at an expensive resort and I cant swim in the ocean? nuff said!

This resort is average at best not what I thought

Posted 29-Mar-2015
Pros: Pool area was nice, location was nice
Cons: Service needs improvement, cleanliness needs a lot of work,
Location: Location is good Plenty to do near by,great restaurants with reasonable prices
In my opinion most of the staff must not have been trained to accommodate guests, the food was very good but highly over priced. I had a two room villa it was very dirty, for a resort that caters to family"s the ice cream shop was hardly ever open and only had a small variety of ice cream and no shakes try telling little kids that while on vacation we had talked to several people staying at the resort with the same kinda of feed back about this resort

Ok hotel

Posted 26-Mar-2015
We had a family room, that said it all. This was the only room left so we took it. However, wish we had not stayed here and spent the money we did. We got hardly no sleep because the walls were paper thin, we could hear everything. Then some very nice child hammered on our door late at night thinking it funny. Only thing nice about the hotel room was the shower, unfortunately door was put on the wrong way round kept hitting the shower head and tap. Hotel was all show and had no soul, nothing to do in the evenings accept go to the crowded bar. All in all very disappointing and a million miles away to what we were expecting. On future I will stay away from this kind of resort.

Could have been better

Posted 25-Mar-2015
Since Hawks Cay was sold the changes though subtle have not been great. We were frequent visitors with our boat but this time we stayed in one of their 2 bedroom "villas". Sub par accommodations, the lovely marina store was closed for several months and now has 30% of what it used to have. The coffee station that was in the store moved next door to what used to be a lovely ice cream place offering many flavors. They brew "Starbucks" but the only coffee you can get is regular coffee. As for ice cream only the soft type from the machine is now available. Not great taste. Of course prices increased... Overall not as nice as it could have been. Reluctant to recommend. Would have been nice to have Yes, No, Maybe. It would have been a maybe.

Nice resort lots for kids to do .

Posted 25-Mar-2015
If you plan on eating in the resort plan to spend a lot.they have 3 places to get food .they high end fancy restaurant an all you can eat buffet and the bar by the pool.a family of 4 at the fancy cost me with no alcohol $250. The tip is predetermined at 18%,%20,%25 . so it end up costing me $300. Lots to do in the local area must do things the aquarium all interactive scoba dive in a tank to hand feed fish climb in the stingray tank and hand feed and pet them or snorkel the Chanel around the aquarium and observe all types of fish .there was also a bird sanctuary nature preserve with a tram tour nice relaxing .there is also lots to rent .on town you can eat at IHOP pretty cheap.

Nice Villa

Posted 25-Mar-2015
Pros: We stayed in a Villa and the outside was taken care of meticulously (lawn, plants etc.)
Cons: The Villa itself was nice but you could tell it was well lived in. A little more upkeep on the inside would have been good!
Location: Great location in the middle of the keys!!!
Had a little trouble with parking and the internet did not work while we were there, but the staff credited us for that!!

Great hotel for family with marina for fishing

Posted 24-Mar-2015
Pros: Marina with fishing charters was part of the hotel.
Location: Duck Key is about 1/2 way between Miami and Key West (about 2 hours to either lcoation from Duck Key) so day trips to both locations are possible.
Stayed 4 days with my son and went on 3 different fishing charters. Fishing was great and the Chefs cooked up our catches for lunch and dinner. Really could not have been better. Hotel staff was exremely accomodating and friendly.
