"Beautiful hotel - Food could do with improvement"
We have stayed in this hotel for 4 years running now and we love it. We have always visited over the Easter break and whilst there was a scramble for sunbeds the first year, we have had no problems in subsequent years.
The indies club is brilliant for the kids, especially my sports mad 9 year old - there's always kids on the football or basket ball courts to play with. My 8 year old daughter has no trouble making friends in the pool or the park. There is also a crazy golf area which is popular.
The resort is really pretty and well maintained. Even the standard rooms are a really good size although the family room offers even more room which helps stops the claustrophobic feeling of a family staying in 1 room for a long time!
The only downside to this hotel is the food. The Indies club offers good snacks/fries/pizza/burger but you get sick of those after a few days. The Ocean restaurant buffet was expensive and not good at all. The Beach Grill is ok - again, not a lot of choice and struggled to get our order of plain chicken breast (no seasoning) and fries for our coeliac son right and had to be returned twice.
For being a luxury large hotel, in America, the choice of food and information available for anyone with dietary requirements is woeful and desperately needs improving. If my son was a very sensitive coeliac, he would not have been able to eat anything. Allergies etc are not an unusual thing these days & hotels really need to improve on this point.
We stayed here two nights in June 2015, and found our room to be well worth the price we found on Expedia. We got in around 1AM the first night after a drive from MIA, and there were no issues getting access to our room. Everything is was as advertised, and was clean and very unexpectedly appealing to the eye. For the price, I was not sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. We were out of the room most of the second day, but they cleaned in between. I would definitely go back or recommend to someone visiting the Keys. What I liked most about the location was that it was right off the highway and was just on the North side of the 7 Mile Bridge.

Wonderful and relaxing stay. We travel to the keys often as it is a quick get away for us.
Have wanted to stay there for a long time and very glad the timing was right this past week.
We definitely plan on returning in the future.
Hawk's Cay Resort is a wonderful experience. The property we rented there by Duck Key Vacation rentals was comfortable and accommodating for our family of 5. Our three teenage sons were also happy with the activities available, though it would be nice if teen night were offered more than just on the weekends. Diving in the Keys was a great experience. Would have loved to go deep sea fishing, we almost did but when we reached our fishing destination the seas were too rough, but it was a nice ocean ride out to the spot and we were fully refunded what we paid to go deep sea fishing. We would love to return to this resort and will recommend it to everyone we know.
This place is very convenient for those who want easy access to the various recreational activities at the western end of Marathon Key. It's not that hard to find if you follow the mile markers along the highway; Pips is located at MM 47.5, directly across from a Mobil gas station. The staff was very cordial and attentive to my needs; the owner personally showed me to my room when I checked in. I stayed in the Garden Guest Room which was very clean, spacious, and well-maintained; housekeeping is done at set days of the week, with sheets and towels replaced. Amenities included a full-size fridge, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, even a wheeled cooler with beach towels. The guest houses are all located along a private road, and I could park my car right next to mine.
In the central Keys Marathon is a relatively new city, though the area has been developed for a while. Tourists flock to Marathon to sunbathe on Sombrero Beach. Fishing and scuba diving are also popular here.
