Club room is awesome and is worth the price
The club room seems exensive at first glance but when you consider it is a larger room, you get free cocktails in the evening and breakfast is included the price ends up being very reasonable.

Some racist staff members
Arrived in the afternoon and was quickly greeted by staff members manning the doors. 3 reception desks were available each assisting a guest. I was the first in line next to be assisted. I have been waiting for 20 minutes and still the reception clerks were not done with their guests. More guests lined up behind me, Filipinos and Chinese, about 4 groups. Then, a couple Westerners (Anglo folks) arrived at around 25 minutes after I have stood in line. A male staff member standing at one of the reception desks quickly showed them to one of the reception desks that just became available. SO, the Anglo customers were assisted right away. I did not complain because after less than 1 minute I was already called by the next reception desk. The female clerk was friendly, though she had hints of racism. I asked if the hotel offers mileage points for airlines. She answered, "Yes, but your rate must be at least 6,000 pesos a night." That's it. She never bothered to check that I paid over 8,000 pesos a night for my room, which would have qualified me for the mileage. She quickly wrapped up checking me in, told me that wifi is not included and I have to pay to use it, though never bothered to offer wifi. I asked what restaurants they have. She said there's a Chinese restaurant Tin Hau on the second floor, and Tivoli which is "a fancy restaurant and expensive." I was not done asking her questions when she called the person next in line behind me. Housekeeping did not vacuum.

Water continues to drain out from the glass partition and the silicone edge. The hallway is old and moldy.

Fantastic service in old surroundings!
The hotel could do with a facelift. The service is 5-star and so was the hotel when it was build (in the 70s). Anyway, fantastic people.

Hotel near shopping area
My stay was not as pleasant as the past stays here. The carpet in yhe hallways are old and stained. It took two phone calls and over half an hour for my luggage to be delivered making me late for an appointment. The bathroom was not thoroughly vacuumed and had pubic hair in the corner of the tub.

Mandarin Oriental - In need of a makeover
Good location in Makati business district, but this hotel is in dire need of a makeover, not just a facelift. It's exactly the same as when I stayed there 10 years ago, and it needed a makeover then. It could be such a better hotel ,especially with the Peninsula just down the street. This is below the average we expect from the Mandarin Oriental chain.

Nice hotel in Makati
Very nice hotel. High standard facilities (spa, Livoti restaurant, hairdresser). The hotel missed one of my transfers from the airport which was not very pleasant but the manager offered me the transfer to the airport. Better to communicate with them by email rather than phone.

although rooms are fonctional, it does not look like any maintenance, even less upgrades, have been made for the last 30 years. dirty hallways, torn wallpaper, blackened AC vent.

Best Staff Ever
From the outset, at my arrival, the hotel staff made me feel very welcome and safe. They were going to look after me, and they did, without being pushy or in your face, they were just alwayas available to help or advise. The hotel Limo service is fantastic, meaning you dont have to take any chances with dodgy metered taxis (which are not really that bad, but using Limos removesd the risk). Location is pretty good, with bars and restaurants within easy 10 minute walking (or less) in both directions on Makati Avenue. Nightlife in P Burgos Street is hectic and in your face, from about 10pm onwards. Bar prices are OK and feels fairly safe. Mandarin has live music every night (see JP in Martinis Bar)until 1:00am. Some really good bands. All in all it was a great experience, and I will definately stay there again

Tired old dame, expensive services
I found the MO for $150 / night and booked it instantly thinking I'd grabbed a bargain, and relitively speaking it does offer good value. With large rooms and a fantastic pool area where you can escape the hectic pace of Makati it does deliver. My gripe with this hotel is that, even though the room rate reflects the fact that all fixtures and fittings are old and the paint is coming off the walls, they still charge extortionate rates for services. For Wifi they wanted to charge me over 1000 pesos per night. To put this into perspective, you can buy a local sim card with unlimited wifi for 7 days for 250 pesos. My advice is to sstay there and enjoy the pool, but avoid the mini bar and other services.

Central to Makati
I thought the hotel was an excellent choice for me; central to places I needed to be in Makati, with excellent staff to help with queries and questions. Very polite too, though in Makati (in other places I have been) this is also true. The service ethic is very high generally, and the Mandarin is no different. One of the staff ironed my crumpled shirts (crumpled from being carried in my bag) and had them back within the hour, which was very pleasing. Also, whilst I was out, somebody polished my shoes for me when the room was refreshed. I appreciated that.

A great choice !
I would recommend Mandarin Oriental Manila and will come back again Service, staff and cleanliness is excellent. Please continue to maintain this. Great hotel with Asian ambience and Filipino friendliness. The breakfast brunch is great. Everyone is friendly and helpful. ( Maybe , the front entrance can use some easy flow of foot traffic or widening improvements . I booked our 2 rooms 2 months earlier so can be together or same floor but ended up at 10th and 6th floor.)

Faded corporate grandure
Clearly a once magnificent hotel, the state of repair let it down... Mildew around the bath, remote controls with the markings rubbed off, slight smell of damp in the room and clearly repurposed furniture let it down.

The Mandarin Makati, Luxury in a Small Package
What I have always felt every time I stay at the Mandarin Makati is that I was in a secure small luxurious business hotel, with excellent service. Traveling alone, I have always felt secure in this hotel. Car and driver service has been outstanding. the Mandarin Has been My favorite for about 15 years.

Tired and over-priced hotel for business traveller
The Mandarin Oriental in Manila has a major potential to downgrade any visitor image of the Mandarin hotel brand. The staff in several areas of the hotel (concierge, front door, front desk) were generally disorganized, inattentive, slow and seemed to be thinking more about their own cares and lives than trying to do some work that involved earning their salary being hotel staff who looked after paying customers. This hotel is also one of the few major hotels left in Manila (or anywhere in the world) that charges an exorbitant extra room rate for wireless connection. This communication issue is made worse by the lack of any computer stations in the lobby or elsewhere. For this reason alone, any business traveler would be crazy to go near the place. The rooms and other amenities are of average standard.

Hotel showing its age
I have stayed at the Mandarin a couple of times and this will be the last Arrived at 7pm after a 16 hour flight and was told the room was not ready. Had to wait in the lobby for 30 minutes, then had to wait in the room for another 45 minutes until my bag showed up after two calls asking were is was. Then I tried to log into the Wi-Fi which failed, when I called they told me to go to the lobby and get a token after paying a $25 deposit which I did not understand after I had already checked in and given my credit card. After another hour it turned out the hotel was having system issues which is why they could not find my room, my bag or get me on the wireless network. Would have been easier to tell me this upfront rather than make me waste two hours. The bathroom shower was then terrible, no pressure and no hot water. Next day spa was fantastic however.

poor 5 * hotel
This Mandarin Oriental hotel is by far the worst in overall condition as a 5* hotel, very old and full of cracks, wall paper peeling off, not much basic facilities as an international hotel. But service is OK and staffs trying very hard to please despite the poor conditions, and they know it too. Not worth the money spent but convenient due to its business location.

Great hotel. Nice food. Friendly staff.
The service is good but perhaps a bit "overdo". Not everyone wants to feel like Richard Gere in "Pretty Woman. A hotel where they always remember your name can also be a bit spooky. The room charges are fear compared to the standard but the "extra" charges like food, drinks etc are very high compared to similar hotels. Still, I'll come back anytime.

the hotel is ok but i dont consider this as a 5 star hotel anymore. the room are big but the design, furniture and bed are old. you can even hear the sound of the spring in the bed whenever you move. the bathroom is big with bathtub but its so old that you can notice the cracks and dirt in the tub . overall its ok but for the same amount i think i can find a better hotel

Excellent hotel in the heart of Makati
The hotel is centrally located in the business district of Makati. There are a lot of shops and places to eat within walking distance from the hotel. The lobby was very impressive and the room was very comfortable. The bathroom is showing its age and needs some minor upgrades. Otherwise, there were a lot of little perks that I really enjoyed including a bath robe, etc which really made you feel pampered.

Beautiful Hotel But Badly in Need of a Facelift
This used to be an elegant hotel, but not a lot of maintenance / renovation has been done over the years. The hallway leading to our room was lined with scuff marks. A paint job would do wonders. A section of our bathroom was missing the marble countertop. In spite of that, we had a wonderful stay. The fruit basket and the complimentary bottles of water were a nice treat. Overall, service was excellent.

Good accommodations near the city attractions
I found our stay at the Mandarin Oriental, both relaxing and enjoyable. It was Christmas so the lobby and function rooms were well made with the decorations. Staff were really friendly. Rooms were clean and well maintained except the carpets which were a little worn out. Beds were comfortable and the bathroom was very clean which is always an important factor for us in choosing a hotel. The pool area was also one of the good features of this hotel though the side of the hotel bldg on that area should be painted. Overall it was a pleasant and relaxing experience . Though they should provide a free breakfast buffet as other hotels with similar or lower charges could give their guests some good free breakfast meals. Nevertheless, as to comfort and accessibility, I highly recommend the Mandarin Oriental.
