“Great building to be refurbished”
Great building to be refurbished
“time machine -- great for children”
The hotel is in an old insurance building from the Edwardian days. The ceiling to our room was thirty feet high. Everywhere spiral staircases, dark paneling, tiled columns of an extremely beautiful nature. Breakfast in what had once been the lobby -- huge room and huge buffet. Staff very friendly. the concierge found a health clinic for my husband and checked up on us afterwards. Nice. The architecture was a great history lesson for my grandchildren.
“Good Hotel BUT be careful”
Stayed at this hotel for a 1 night after going to a Take That concert. The first room we were given was clean but very scruffy with the carpet being threadbare in one place and mould around the bath inbetween the bath and the wall. I called reception to complain and someone came to our room quickly with keys for another room which was far superior to the 1st one. I guess the 2nd room had been refurbished whereas the 1st one was in urgent need of refurbishment. Apart from this bad start, the staff were very helful and the breakfast was good
“Make sure you get a renovated room”
My first room was the worst room i ever saw. Threadbare carpet patched with duct tape, ancient beds, rotted wood floor in bathroom. I requested a different room that was much better, much smaller but newly renovated. Make sure they give you a new room !!
“central location”
Rooms are old but the hiotel has character. staff very friendly and attentive. You get here what you pay for.
“the palace is good quality for the money”
Very good
“Some good, some less good”
I booked 6 rooms and every room bar mine was great - there was a strange odour (rm 266). We changed to a different room on the Sat that was very nice. Restaurant was booked for Sat evening - again a bit average, some lovely food and some of it disappointing. With a bit more work this could be something special.
“Nice hotel but needs work”
The public spaces at the hotel are very nice - except for the pub which has no character at all - even during the World Cup. Be aware that any gratuities in the restaurant & the bar go to management, not the staff. Also, don't know if it was booking from a foreign country or not, but my room was all the way down the end of the hall with a tiny window looking over a parking lot. I understand they have put a lot of money into renovation, but I guess they hadn't gotten to my room yet - cracks on the ceiling and on the walls. Happily the bathroom was as big as the room. Very convenient - between the University & downtown - but won't be staying there again on my next trip.
“Very impressed with this hotel”
The standard of the Palace Hotel, Manchester was very good. The quality of food was exceptional. We took advantage of the evening meal which was on offer - waiter and waitress service very good. We were very impressed with the hotel surroundings and decor. Our room was a standard room with old fashioned furnishings but there were more modern rooms if required. Very comfortable. Staff very helpful and an overall good experience at this hotel.
“Four star hotel I think not”
I didn't expect the plaster to be falling off the ceiling. Some bleach for the mildew on the shower head would have been nice.
