“Great staying in Granada”

Had a great time @ Plaza Colon. It's right at the city center so restaurants, tours and everything else are steps away. I found the room very comfortable but it's a colonial hotel so one may find some things looking like old. And some things are old. Although any of it takes the beauty of the hotel. The important part was that I didn't see any bugs. Everything was pretty clean. The downside would be the internet. Some times it went down and for me that needed to have some work done remotely kind of annoyed me. Not a big of a deal.

Area recommendations

The carriage tour. The little vulcan islands tour (take the 1h or 1.5h - more than that should be boring) Walk around town. Go to the oldest house in the city. Hear the local stories about pirates. Laguna de Apoyo is a must see.

When to go

Do not go in October. Everyone takes vacation because of the weather (rainy winter).

“Wonderful Place among Wonderful People”

Everything was great with the exception of spotty internet service. The rooms were spectacular and the service was excellent!

“Granada's best hotel!”

This hotel was a suprise to us, not only is it in the best location in Granada, but it is maintained beyond many hotel standards in the US. The service was outstanding. The value was fair, and best of all in a country where things are not usually up to US standards as far as being clean its clean. We had two rooms in this hotel for 1 week. Both great. Unless you love noise I would avoid the front balcony rooms, the birds in the early morning will drive you over the edge. Otherwise its a great hotel.

“excellence right in the heart of it all”

Fair rates excellent service, great breakfast, and room service. Very clean rooms with supery comfortable beds. Highly Reccomend !!

Getting around

Take the horse and carrieage tour around town. Great experience. Excellent way to see town without walking in the heat.

“Best Service”

Hotel Plaza Colon was great. This was the second visit in 4 months and the staff was great. Everyone from the staff remembered my family and I from the previous trip. The staff was great to work with and very friendly. I will not stay anywhere, but here when in Granada.

“good choice”

an excellent choice for granada. central location on the plaza and very helpful and friendly staff

Getting around

Travelling within Nicaragua in general is kind of challenging--it may take longer than it looks on the map and requires some patience. I recommend using taxis arranged from your hotel to take you to and from the airport, but try the buses/microbuses for other internal travel. You may need to ask for help, but the Nicos I met were quite helpful and friendly (and full of suggestions about where to visit in their beautiful country). Don't miss Isla de ometepe!!

“Will go back”

The staff at the Plaza Colon was great. Everything from the complientary cocktail to the bell boy walking me a block to show me the ATM and walking me and my family 3 blocks to a recommended resturaunt. They also assited my family and I in setting up some tours of Granada. Very excellent service all around.

“EXCELLENT CHOICE”

The hotel is excellently located just in front of the Plaza. A few minutes away (walking distance) from La Calzada which is a "must" for every visitor. Hotel is a beautiful restored colonial style building. Everything was clean, and staff was polite and helpful. I would definitively recommend this hotel. Tip: Buy a nice bottle of wine in Enoteca (just downstairs) and every evening before heading to have dinner take your glass of wine and enjoy whats going around.

“Great location, great staff”

Great hotel just off the main park in Granada. Everything was great except the "high-speed" Internet was spotty and not as promised. Otherwise, I would highly recommend this hotel to others. If you are driving, they also have secure parking.

“Great staff and location right in the center of Granada - beautiful colonial hotel”

This was a great hotel with the most convenient location just steps away from all the action - the main square, the main strip for nightlife and restaurants. The hotel itself is a beautifully restored colonial building from the 1500's and only has 3 stories so has a really nice boutique-feel. The only thing that could have been improved on was the smell of our room - the bedding and sheets had a terrible mildew smell and we were unable to switch rooms due to full capacity at the hotel. Our room was on the main floor but I'm sure rooms on a higher floor would have been fine. I would recommend this hotel but try and request a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor.
