“Close to the airport.”

The main thing this hotel has going for it , is that it is across the street from the airport. If you have an early flight, you can just pack your bags & walk across the street & you are there. It is overpriced & everything about the place is average.Kenneth

“Well woth the visit”

I was a little concerned that the hotel would be noisy since it is across from the airport. Not so! Very quiet. for flying in or out. Felt safe. Lots of personnel to meet all your needs. Would use again.Expedia rate was cheaper than the walk in rate.

“Bring ear plugs ! And plan on NO Hot Water !”

Really nice place ! Well maintained ! Beautiful grounds ! Close to the airport ! Free Breakfast ! BUT ! The room walls are paper thin! The walk ways are tile, and every service cart and roller luggage that passes sounds like a roller coaster ! Clack! clack! clack! On every tile ! Anyone talking outside you can hear! PLUS ! No HOT Water ! Ever ! I was in two different rooms on two different days . I never was able to get any hot water no matter how long I let it run !

“Better than expected”

The reason to stay is convenience to the airport, so we were not expecting much, but our room was clean & comfortable, and the service was friendly, efficient and bi-lingual. We had a sandwich at the snack bar (which we would recommend over the restaurant) and requested extra pillows that were delivered in less than 5 mins. We were kind of dreading staying here, but overall it was a good experience & I would recommend this hotel.

“Excellent value and convenience”

Remember that this is Nicaragua, so do NOT expect the same as a North American Best Western. However, the Hotel is very convenient - they even pick you up and deliver you back to the Airport even though it is directly opposite.across a very busy road!. The staff were extremely helpful, the room was clean and everything worked - as long as the power was on, which it often isn't in Nicaragua! Nice pools, fabulous FULL breakfast and interesting layout to keep dry in the rains. My son and I stayed there twice, once on our arrival and again on our departure. Highly recommended and great value through Expedia.

Did not explore Managua, except to drive through. Be WARNED. There are very few traffic signs in Nicaragua....!!

“at a lost for words”

I had a horrible experience regarding the lack of courtesy and manners. I had a reservation and had problems with my flights and didn't make it to the hotel. I was charge for the reservation even tho I was told I would be since there were circumstances out of my control that made me miss my reservation. When my family members try to reach me at the hotel they were rudely yelled at. I WILL NEVER BOOK WITH LAS MERCEDES.

“Only one irritation”

I already covered what I thought about the way the young lady checked us in.

Area recommendations
We stayed at this hotel because of its location across the street from the airport. We also rented a car for the week from Dollar just down the street. The hotel was very good about taking us to the rental agency and again when we returned to the hotel, following us over the agency and taking us back to the hotel.
Getting around
In Belize we spent most of our time on the Cayes (Caulker and Ambergris) so a rental car would be totally impractical, but in Nicaragua the distances are great enough and public transportation, although available, is not as practical if you want to see a lot. We took the car to the Island of Ometepe via San Jorge, but because good hotels on the island will pick you up at the ferry, and because there are many possibilities of getting the car scratched or dented while backing into the position they want you in, and then watching locals crawling over the car when the space between parts of the ferry or other vehicles may be an inch apart (I could not slide my hand through the opening). It would be safer to leave in a secure parking spot if you can find one, maybe in Rivas at a quality hotel parking lot. Also on the island the hotel shuttles usually will take you to all the interesting places. Traveling to San Juan del Sur, Leon, or most anyplace where you aren't driving on very bad roads which can damage the underside of your car get stuck in the mud, a rental car can be very practical. We found driving to be no more dangerous than on most roads at home.

“Managua in and out airport hotel”

We arrived late and planned to leave in the morning so this was a perfect choice. It was safe, very close to the airport, clean and offered a breakfast buffet. This was a good start to an extended stay in Nicaragua.

Area recommendations
Alta Mira neighborhood has a good coffee shop, The Casa Cafe. The Managua Hills Hotel was in a nice residential area and was the best place we stayed in Nicaragua.
When to go
Early December is nice because there can be cooling winds to get refiief from the heat but don't go to the Caribbean side then as the water is too choppy.
Getting around
I'd recommend not to attempt the boat trip from San Juan Del Norte to Bluefields, it is in open waters and a small boat, this means it can be painfully rough.
What to pack
This is a hot climate you'll only need summer clothes
