“malta july 2011”
we stopped in the white dolphin for four nights, we had one of the rear facing rooms on the ground floor with a liitle patio, it was walled all round so not much view but nice and quiet the room itself was sparse but its only a base and somewhere to sleep and it was clean, no tv but a fridge to keep drinks etc in, the pool and bar area were great, only gets the sun in the morning, but was nice to sit in the shade after a hot day sightseeing, the bar does food all day and is very reasonable, at night the sunloungers are cleared away and nice patio furniture put out , nice for having a drink and relaxing if you dont fancy going out or when you get back from a night out, we ate at the hotel once in the day (bar food, wraps, sandwiches etc) and we had the bbq on riday night, all you eat fish, chicken, pork, maltese sausages etc, and all the trimmings, really really nice : ) . the staff at the hotel are the jewel in the crown, all of them were nice, polite, welcoming and accomodating, especially lino (leeno) the older guy, always smiling and joking, nothing is too much trouble. the location of the hotel is nice and quiet but two mins walk away there are plenty of bars and places to eat, try the welcome inn round the corner monster breakfast for about 3.5 euros. not much beach on the front but that is the case for most of the island that we saw, the gozo trip is a must, hotel pick up and drop off, include the lunch whenyou book 3 course meal, only 7euros more. will def stay here again
“Going back asap”
Lovely hotel, small but extreamly friendly. Went away with our parents & our grown up married children, in total a party of 12. we were greated as we arrrived & shown to our rooms, as we didn't get there till gone 10pm they we closing up the kitchin but offered to stay open to make us a pizza. We are already looking in to going back for the new year.Absolutly wonderful experiance.
“Don't expect a luxury apartment with hostel prices”
White Dolphin is what it says on the tin - basic. The studio apartments are relatively large with basic cooking facilities, a balcony and a shower room.It wasn't cleaned during our week-long visit and by the end of the week, you could really notice it. You can get clean towels from reception (but it's only open during the summer months between 9ish -2pm) and we had to take our rubbish out ourselves. Having a room high up is a must - the noice on groundfloor/ first floor level is unbearable, especially if you like to sleep before 11pm/ you have small children. The one bedroom apartments face to the back of the property with a concrete building /wall views but the higher studio apartments have nice sea views from the balcony. The location of the apartment is good, if you don't like to be in the middle of it all. It's 5-10 minute walk from the bus terminus and the local buses take you everywhere. Supermarket and a few restaurants are also nearby, Buggiba resort centre is about 15 minute walk away with more restaurants and shops and a tiny beach. Beaches are rocky and the small pool at White Dolphin is in the sun only in the mornings. Everything is very small scale on the island and if you want to have a shopping holiday, Qawra is not the place to be (Sliema would probably be the best option). However, White Dolphin offers a good base for your holiday if you don't expect too much.
“Disappointing”
In a good handy position near to bars etc, but this is a cheap hotel ok if you just want somewhere to put your head down at night, but not for a relaxing break.
“Good value for money”
The place is excellent for those looking for some quite, relaxing time away from the hustle and bustle. It is an apartment complex, not a hotel though. Our room was really spacious, fairly clean and well equipped with all sorts of kitchen appliances. The place is situated in a less developed area but it is 5 minutes walk away from Bugibba centre, where all shops, restaurants and the bus station are. For those wishing to explore the island on their own the near proximity of the bus terminus is a treasure and riding those buses itself is an experience. The hotel has a pool but it only gets sunshine in the morning, hotels in the area offer entrance to their pool but of course it's chargeable. You have to drive or take the bus to the next sandy beach, but it's worth it as the see is crystal clear. All in all I enjoyed my stay, I would mind going back to the White Dolphin again, if I ever return to Malta.
“Malta is Terrific”
We enjoyed our stay at the White Dolphin. People were very helpful and friendly. The restaurant was very good. We rented a 2 bedroom apt. that was well worth the price. There are some things that you have tooverlook when traveling abroad. The TV was small but we were at least able to keepup with the news. The apt was very large and bright. We were lucky to have a balcony overlooking the pool. We would sit out in the AM with our tea and coffee. Make sure that you bring some of the necessities such as tea bags, sugar, instant coffee (there is no coffee pot only electric hot water kettle). There are two small stores about 3 minutes walking distance that you can buy everything. The bus stop is near the stores and you can get all over the island with public transportation. Bus #70 goes to St. Juliens and St. Paul's Bay and on to Sliema. Bus#49 goes to Valletta (make sure that you do not miss that city). jSee the Malta Experience to find out about the history of the island. Take a tour of Gozo, it is well worth it. Can't wait to go back....
“Not the Best”
I had informed the hotel of my time of arrival. On arrival there was no one in reception nor in the bar where I found the key for our Studio. In fact I later found out we had been put into an Apartment at the back of the hotel and not a Studio has booked. Of course there was no one in the reception to assist in this matter. The room was basic and only cleaned once a week ie. for the arrival, towels could be changed at any time at the reception, during their opening times. Use of the small TV was by payment as was the safe deposit box in the room. All in all I suppose you do get what you pay for, however we didn't, and will not be going to this hotel again
“White Dolphin, Qawra, Malta”
We recommend this hotel - the situation is good, close to restaurants and amenities. The service was friendly and prompt. After reading earlier reviews, we chose a studio apartment and got full morning sun, sea views and all that we needed. So reviews are worth reading!
“Good value and location”
Great value and location. Only important criticism is that all the one bedroomed appartments are at the back of the complex, so if you want a balcony overlooking the sea with the morning sun you need to opt for a studio.........they are so much nicer...and it doesnt matter that you have a separate bedroom. The living area in the one bedroomed apt is dark and uninspiring. So definitely go for the studio. Cooked english breakfast was great and very reasonable. Would really recommend hiring a car to get round the island and see Gozo. Hire prices very reasonable and so many great sites to see.
“Excellent Value”
Excellent value, position and facilities. Enjoyed our holiday immensly.
