Had four fantastic relaxing days at paradise bay. No complaints at all. Rooms were spacious with lovely views. Hired a car to travel the island because the hotel is a little isolated but this is what we wanted. Feel very fortunate to have chosen this hotel for our break as it covered all our needs. We had a teenager and pensioner in our party and everyone was satisfied. Paradise bay lived up to its name.
We stayed two nights at the Excelsior before moving on from Valletta for a longer stay in Gozo. We wanted something close to the Old Town, and with a reliable standard. The Excelsior did not disappoint: the staff were very welcoming and the hotel facilities were all that could be expected.
The hotel is located just outside the Old Town, slightly downhill, but it's only a 10 minute walk, and taxis are an option if you cannot handle the uphill walk. But being located where it is means that it doesn't suffer from traffic in the same way that, for example, the Phoenicia does (being somewhat blighted by the bus exchange). The hotel facilities are impressive and well maintained; being a fairly large hotel, the breakfast experience is a fairly busy affair, but the staff handle things quite well and it's certainly not something to worry about.
All in all, a very pleasant hotel experience, and precisely what we want.
Staying at the Phoenicia is like going in a time machine to a time when service was everything. From the moment we arrived to a "welcome back" to the time we checked out the staff were wonderful. Smiles are not professional but genuine. Unfortunately some of the guests this time were arrogant and rude but this is did not daunt any of the staff whatsoever. The facilities are excellent and the refurbishment programme progresses. The poor air conditioning system in our room last year has been replaced and is excellent and flat screen TVs have replaced the cumbersome old sets. Wi-fi is now freely available in all bedrooms. This year we ate in the hotel at the grill and jazz evening, excellent food, wine and value. The hotel could not be better situated virtually adjacent to the nearly finished city gates with large numbers of excellent restaurants within a few minutes walk. If you want a relaxing holiday with good food, a wealth of history and a return to the days where service matters then the Phoenicia is for you. My wife and I love Malta and would not conceive of staying anywhere else.
Very helpful, courteous staff. Most comfortable bed and lovely bed linen. We had a duplex room which had everything we needed, these rooms don't have a view which isn't a problem if you are out all day, as we were. More expensive rooms have a view across the island.

I very much enjoyed my stay at the St Julians Radisson Blu. Whilst the external render is a little bit tired in places (I believe a significant refurbishment is imminent) the internal areas and room were excellent with effective air conditioning. The staff were all unfailingly polite, friendly, pleasant and effective. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit Malta.
I stayed at the Calypso for a week in August 2014. As woman travelling alone, it was particularly important for me to feel safe, whilst having a sociable time. The staff were warm and friendly, and clearly interested in the well-being of their guests. I was able to use the office to check in on line for my flight home! My room was spotless. The upstairs pool was smaller than I had anticipated, as it is a plunge pool, but the sea was right across the road. The Calypso is nicely situated and I was able to access shops and fab restaurants very nearby. I'l be going back there soon, and I would strongly recommend it.
