“Windsor Hotel, Sliema, Malta- February 2011”
Having stayed at the Windsor in January we knew what to expect. The only thing I would pick up on was, that after indicating we would prefer a non-smoking room, the corridor did smell quite heavily of stale smoke. The room was fine though. We did wonder however if we had been put on the 4th floor as there were a lot of Schoolkids on the lower floors and it was quieter on the 4th floor. For the price it is a very good Hotel with an excellent choice for Breakfast. We would also say the staff were helpfull and friendly.
“I would stay at The Winsor Hotel again”
I've stayed in a number of hotels in Malta and The Windsor was certainlyone of the better of them. Very good value for money also. Check in was smooth. Twin room was comfortable, fairly roomy with useful fridge, spacious wardrobe, very small balcony and a tv which you had to leave a deposit to use. Bed could have been firmer as was too soft toward the centre. A decent bathroom with air extracter, bathtub and showerhead. but a bit on the small side. The room was a bit on the cold side for April and the heating/cooling system did not make much difference. But generally the room was fine. (Although I did notice a creepy crawlly... But then in such a climate it's perhaps not so unusual). Self-Service breakfast In the hotel restaurant was good with a selection of fruit, cereals, continental and cooked items. It also served the general public. Some excellent additions are the Gym, sunroof and pool. There's also a jacuzzi and sauna. The lounge is large and in two halves with pay as you go Internet and a bar. There's also a games room in the basement. I would recommend The Windsor Hotel which has a very good location, (only two minutes walk to the promenade and waterfront). The nearby restaurants including Ta Kolina are excellent too.
“Fit for purpose”
I found The Windsor Hotel to be suitable for my needs, on my short 5 day break in Sliema. The room was clean and well aired, blackout curtains were great and there was plenty of hot water. Breakfast wasn't great and I would recommend Tony's Bar in the harbour rather than the Corner Restaurant. The staff at the Windsor were helpful eventually, although I did stand at the reception desk on a couple of occasions, while telephone conversations were completed! The roof pool was great for catching the sun and the indoor pool and hot tub, lovely for relaxing. The Windsor is situated towards the St Julian end of town and very close to the local bus route for St Julian's and Valetta. The lovely 20 minute walk from the hotel to the harbour is no hardship, giving easy access to water ferry, harbour cruises, lovely bars and restaurants. I would stay there again but go on a room only basis as there are much better places to eat.
“Short break”
Generally fine but walls of room very thin. we could hear our neighbours very clearly, making tea, watching TV and talking. It's not that they were noisy at all but if they had been................Hotel was a bit 'tatty' and TV channels in room very limited. was clean and staff were helpful. Breakfast was fine. Location excellent. Don't really know whether to recommend or not - if walls were better soundproofed then yes!
“Location and pleasent walk into town far outways the hotels value for money, quality and service!!!”
The staff at the hotel were abrupt and unhelpful when problems arose. The room was fairly basic but met our basic needs, thankfully we had not paid extra for breakfast as this left a lot to be desired. The hotel is popular with students and large school parties which may not suit all customers and this was not mentioned int he descriptions. In our experience the hotel opperated a price per person rather than per room which worked out at being poor value for money as we had a triple room!!!! Location was good as it was approx a ten minute walk into St Julians ans 5 mins to narby restaurants. Personally I would happily return to this area of Malta but not to this hotel!
“you get what you pay for..”
the beds sag, the pillows are rock hard, the cleaners come too early in the morning and the walls are very thin. the room is definitely clean and as long as you are happy to travel around, there is nothing around the hotel, its fine.
