great last minute booking

Posted 08-Apr-2015
Pros: The comfortable beds, food and staff.
Cons: Better double glazing at front of hotel to sound proof the noise from the road.
Location: Not a very good area for parking but excellent bus route. Visit the church and world war 2 war shelters, both within walking distance.
Lovely hotel exactly where we thought it would be. Friendly staff, good food and very comfortable beds. Only negative is the noise from the main road if you stay at the front of the hotel.

Nice Hotel, great facilities.

Posted 05-Apr-2015
Really lovely hotel. Rooftop pool, indoor pool, spa facilities, bar & 3 restaurants. Apart from the lady who checked us in and whoever she was speaking to on the phone (who rolled her eyes when we asked if there was a possibility we could be moved to a room off the main road as it was a bit noisy) all staff were polite and helpful. Room itself was spacious with a balcony, mini kitchen, bath and shower. Bus stop right opposite the hotel takes you to the Gozo ferries (through Melleiha Bay) and the bus stop on the same side takes you to Valletta/Sliema/Airport etc... €1.50 for a day ticket - bargain! Would recommend three restaurants nearby: 'Bouquet Garni' (fresh fish/meat and desserts to die for), 'ta Randi' (big portions, great value) and 'Master Wok' (excellent chinese food).

Don't book day prior to public holiday

Posted 21-Mar-2015
We booked the day prior to a public holiday. Apparently this created chaos for the staff and we had to pay another rate prior to getting our room key. This then created knock on chaos and confusion when we went for breakfast the following morning. Very rude and arrogant breakfast manager. Woken up at 0630 with staff moving furniture in the next room. Furniture on tiles sounded like finger nails on a blackboard through a loudspeaker at 0630... not something you look for on your short holidays. Echoing rooms and corridors...not a design that is conducive to getting a lie in.

Ottimo albergo e gentilezza del personale

Posted 16-Mar-2015
Pros: Tutto
Cons: secondo me adottare moderni materassi in lattice anziché a rete
Location: Situato in centro con fermata bus davanti all'albergo
Vacanza prenotata tramite Expedia. Molto soddisfatto.

Nice hotel. Would stay again.

Posted 03-Mar-2015
Pros: Spacious, rooms. High standard of cleanliness. Good food.
Location: On the main street. Lots of shops and eateries nearby. Bus stop opposite.
We were made to feel welcome. Rooms large and comfortable but a bit cold. (Although the weather was a lot worse than normal!) Food was of a good quality and varied enough for a week's stay. The hotel is centrally located with other places nearby to eat at if wanted. Also very handy for the excellent public transport on the island.

Clean and pleasant hotel

Posted 20-Feb-2015
The staff could not have been more helpful, reception, restaurant and housekeeping went out of their way to make us feel important. The rooms were clean with new towels every day. Rooms on the front could be a little noisy.

Bonne adresse

Posted 10-Feb-2015

Value for money, friendly staff, facilities poor

Posted 06-Feb-2015
Pros: We liked the friendliness of the staff, the value for money and location.
Cons: Basic maintenance of rooms to ensure they are not damp and electrics work properly. The indoor swimming pool changing facilities and gym equipment.
Location: Good location for visiting Gozo and the local sights in Mellieha, and there is a good choice of restaurants nearby.
We stayed at the Solana for a week in January. I had asked for a quiet room, and we were given a studio on the second floor overlooking the main street, which was a little noisy but not bad. (On the first night we were kept awake by some young men shouting in the corridor and knocking on doors, however the hotel was prompt to call the police, sort it out and apologise.) The hotel staff were efficient and friendly, and the hotel is well placed for restaurants and to visit Gozo. However, the room felt damp when we arrived, and when we pressed a light switch, the main fuse blew. The mains was switched back on by the receptionist, and we were given a replacement kettle (we thought the kettle wasn't working), quickly enough. However, we realised that at least two of the power sockets didn't work properly, the replacement kettle leaked, and the fridge didn't have a door for the freezer compartment. The indoor swimming pool changing facilities and gym equipment was poor, although the pool was pleasant enough. On the whole the hotel was good value for money.

Albergo carino in una cittadina tranquilla

Posted 17-Jan-2015
L'albergo è piuttosto nuovo (costruzione di 12 anni fa). Anche se lo stile è un po' anni 90. La colazione è buona e varia. Le camere carine ma un po' sporche. Bella la piscina interna e la spa.

Good but not great

Posted 15-Jan-2015 on Hotels.com
Good in overall but labyrinth of corridors and two elevators to get to the room wasn't great. The worst was the constant buzzing noise in the room (coming from the fuse box)
