Refurbishment long overdue!

Posted 26-Sep-2014
Pros: Cleanliness and housekeeping staff were friendly.
Cons: Refurbishment of room and better facilities when you check out early but have a late flight!
Location: Mellieha is a lovely village and has some wonderful beaches nearby. Great choice of local restaurants and cafe/bars to cater for all tastes.
Air conditioning was useless and very noisy- very old fashioned and no temperature adjustment. Cracked bathroom sink, loose floor tiles beside bed, fridge trying to defrost making contents wet! Check out 10am and supposed to provide facilities- however, these are very poor. Showers are the ones by pool and no where to put dry clothes. Departure lounge is lovely but no air conditioning so it's very hot! Very disappointed with our stay!

A hotel with fantastic staff.

Posted 09-Sep-2014
Pros: The atmosphere and staff.
Cons: It's a little bit tatty around the edges, e.g. the shower head holder pulled out of the wall.
Location: We ate in a different restaurant every evening and the food was inexpensive and always first class for me.
To be honest, if I put my glasses on, I could see that the hotel was a little past it's best in terms of condition. But thanks to the meticulous efforts of the staff, it was very clean. I therefore chose not to wear my glasses. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and are the making of the place. The room was better than I expected for the price, and the two pools, though small, were not busy and were perfect for cooling off. Sun loungers were plentiful, and we were able to find two adjacent ones on all but one day. The hotel has a really laid-back atmosphere, as does the village of Meleiha (pronounced 'melee ha'). There are a few reasonably lively bars, but it is not the place to find loud night-life. This is a hotel and location for a very relaxing holiday, if you're prepared to take off your glasses here and there. The Maltese are great people and very charming, and this is what really made my holiday extra special. I had never been before but I loved the hotel and the village. Also, there is lots to see around Malta and Gozo too, if you decide to hire a car.

Nice, comfortable hotel located near a beach.

Posted 23-Jul-2014
Pros: Location and service. Used hotel's spa services, really lovely ladies gave us massages, facials and other treatments.
Cons: May be free wifi in the rooms and a clock in the main area.
Location: Beach is very close by, lots of restaurants and quite a few shops near by the hotel. Buses near by to go to other parts of Malta, very convenient.
Had a pleasant experience staying there. The staff was very helpful and polite, we received a very good service, any time we asked for something, we were provided it immediately. We didn't have a good view from our room but we had the option to upgrade to get the sea view but we didn't want to pay any extra money. We ate at the Hotel restaurant a couple of times, food was very nice too. Would definitely recommend this Hotel!

Good hotel for price I paid

Posted 01-Jul-2014 on Hotels.com
Room was comfortable. Limited free parking outside else had to pay to use the car park. Wi-Fi was free in reception. If you wanted to use it in your room it was expensive. Tried to and wouldn't work due to router problem so had to sit in reception to send e-mails. Fridge did not chill. Several other guests had same problem. Luckily able to get bucket of ice from bar so could have cold drink but should be looked at especially as some peoples rooms were self catering without a working fridge

Great hotel with stunning views

Posted 12-May-2014
Pros: Clean and spacious rooms with tasteful decor. Furnishings were fresh. Self-catering equipment was well stocked.
Cons: Electrics in the room made a bit of a noise - some light sleepers may need earplugs
Location: Mellieha was a pleasant town not overrun by tourists. There were enough excellent restaurants to choose from. Easy access by bus to Northern locations
We did a lot of research before booking this hotel and were not disappointed. First tip: book a room with a sea view if you want a stunning view! Alot of rooms back onto a stepped alleyway which is not a problem as it was quiet but I imagine you only get a view if you request one like we did. We were self-catering as that suited us but we did eat in the cave bar one lunchtime and found our food matched the quality of the food in all the restaurants in Mellieha - exceptional, tasty and good value for money. We wanted to explore the island - this hotel is in an ideal location for northern destinations, Gozo, Comino & Valletta as bus connections are good. Do not pick this hotel if you want a week on the beach, Mellieha's beach is a bus journey away. We were too busy exploring to spend alot of time using the hotel's facilities but what we saw was of a high standard. We found staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. I'd would however advise booking a transfer from the airport for this hotel. We caught the bus and were lucky to be dropped at the top of the hill managing to find the hotel by walking downhill with more luck than judgement! If you approach the hotel from the bottom of the town with suitcases you will not be very happy with the hundreds of steps you'll have to climb to get to reception. Its fine once you're checked in as you'll be able to take the hotel lift. Mellieha is a lovely town, not taken over by tourists but gently embracing them. We plan to return!

Friendly hotel, very easy access to shops

We had a lovely time in a luxury self-catering appartment. We found The Pergola Hotel a great happy medium between a hotel and a self-catering facility. Perfect for the needs of two middle-aged travellers without children.

Not a nice experience

Posted 10-Apr-2014 on Hotels.com
We booked through Hotels.com and the price for the room included a complimentary wifi in the room. The man at the front desk did however not give us the internet code and wanted to charge us 12 euro for that! We arrived late in the evening and were given a key that did not work. The hotel is a labyrint and it takes ages to find your room. When we at the end got a new key the person at the reception did not even appoligize for the trouble we had .Never again in this hotel!
