Nice hotel in a tourist area

Posted 26-May-2014
Pros: St Pauls bay area is a beautiful one and many nice restaurantes nearby.
Cons: Markings in lobby, eg where to go to find the hotel garden.
Location: Venus restaruant is nearby, really good food and atmosphere. Highly recommended.
We had overall a very good stay at Dolmen hotel. The SPA looks really good even if we didn't try it. The garden is good with 2 pools, only minus is that there is a road in between the garden and the sea so some noisy cars we had to adapt to. When we arrived we were put in a small smoking room, which was not what we ordered and paid for, but the hotel compensated by free dinner and drinks and moved us to a much nicer room the day after. So overall very good stay, but with disappointing start and really no apologies from the hotel staff.

Great location, shame about the construction work!

Posted 20-Apr-2014
The hotel is generally really good, located on the coast, near the bus station and close to the city centre. However the hotel is slightly dated, the seaview room is very good and the room we had (5th floor) was the refurbished. One pool is well kept the other had a lot of construction work around it, same with the private beach area which was annoying. The hotel doesnt have a sign outside which is bizzarre. The breakfast was excellent with a wide selection of food. If your looking to tour the whole of malta you'd rather stay near valetta, st julians or Silema as you'd have to take a 40min bus ride daily to get in. You can book trips to gozo from ticket stalls along the coast and it would be less than half price if you were to book via concierge. I'd recommend hornblower, walk toward Mc D's or pizza hut and you'll see it along the coast. Also there is no free WiFi! So if you go to McD's you could use their wifi an there are a few cafes that have wifi too.

great hotel but service needs improvement

we have stayed a few times and always loved this place but this time round we were a little disappointed. I had ordered a bed preference of double bed, but the room had two single beds. We called 4 times over 6 hours for our beds to be joined. They eventually came to do them at 8pm. The room was not as modern, clean and nice as usual. The shower head was very old and grubby and the clip was broken so it didnt angle properly. The service at the spa was impeccable as always, great staff, except that the pool and hydro massage were nearly cold. Breakfast was good.

Nice Hotel in a good location.

Pros: Good location with some very nice restruants in easy walking distance.
Cons: The essentials mentioned above should be included in the rate.
Location: Try the " overflow restruant " nearby.
Overall a very nice hotel but watch out for the extras. Safe key, wifi and on site car parking are a few of the essentials not included in the rate.

Return to the 1960s

Posted 20-Oct-2013
Cons: whole thing needs a facelift
Location: Great restaurants nearby. Beach was pretty poor.
Hotel appeared a little tired. Carpets in the walkways were worn and water stained. Rooms need a little TLC. Cockroach in the room!

Another Fantastic Stay!!

Posted 12-Oct-2013 on Hotels.com
Second year in a row we have stayed at the Dolmen and second year in a row we have been impressed. When we arrived we had been upgraded to a Sea View Room which was a nice gesture, although it was one of the rooms which hadn't been update in the refurbishment, albeit still very nice, clean etc. We advised the reception staff we wished to be moved to a room similar to the room we had the previous year, the following day whilst we were out, we had been moved by the staff, who had taken all our belongings, and were provided with a complimentary bottle of wine, a small touch that made a big difference!! The service is always really professional and the reception staff are always willing to help!! We stayed Bed & Breakfast, and there was a very good selection of hot and cold items. The hotel is in a brilliant location, you can literally walk straight into the sea from pool side, plenty of water sports, nice bars, the nightclub was really good, can't fault the hotel!!

Close to sea and local amenities

Posted 21-Sep-2013
Pros: I liked the proximity to St. Paul and bugibba
Cons: Air conditioning unit needs to chill the air and have a decent fan.
Location: Bugibba was very close, lots of bars. We attended a wedding and visited quite a few bars on the stag/hen. Plenty to do at night.
Room and stay was good, air conditioning in room was not very effective and unit was above average on noise. The noise would gave been a small factor if the u it had been effective but it was not. We only spent 3 nights so just did what we could do ventilate our room. We did not have a balcony with our room and only a small window that opened so we had problems ventilating the room which was facing the sun most of the day. The room was very clean as was the bathroom. We did use the pool which had plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas. The cafe on the sun terrace served great coffe and lunch was very reasonable.

Definitely not 4 star

Posted 27-Aug-2013
Pros: Hot stone massage was excellent. Great therapist.
Cons: Hire more restaurant staff so guests do not have to wait forever to just place their order. Waiting for food to arrive is another story....
Room corridors had musty odour throughout stay. Only 2 guest lifts for the whole hotel. One one day only one lift was operating. The other was working only after 4 pm. Breakfast selection limited.
