LOCATION WAS EXCELLENT AND THE BEING ABLE TO USE THE BEACH ACROSS THE ROAD WITH PLENTY OF SUNBEDS WAS LOVELY. PRICES WERE GREAT FOR ALL MEALS AND SNACKS. . THE WINE BAR WAS GREAT THE DOLMAN WAS OVERALL GREAT AND WOULD DEFINATLY RECOMMEND IT ..WE HAD A FANTASTIC TIME AND HOPE TO GO BACK .
“Best hotel in Buggiba, Qawra!”
Flight to Malta on Air Malta was good but in-flight food was very poor. Transferred in time to Dolmen which is quite a big 4 star hotel. We were given lovely sea front rooms on the 4th floor with beautiful views of the ocean and pool. Breakfast was very good with a selection of hot and cold foods. Dinner was not bad either and they specially made us vegetarian meals every night and brought to our table. Great service and good tasting food. Wine was reasonably priced at Euro 7.50 for a litre of house wine. Other facilities in hotel were casino to which we went during 2 nights. However they didn't have too many poker slot machines. Plenty of bars and also a night club. Surrounding area was nice too with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants 5 minutes down the road. On the whole very pleased with the hotel. The minor complaints we had were lack of pool towels and bathroom not up to the standards compared to rest of room which was very modern. We did excursions to Gozo and also did the hop on- hop off bus around south Malta which was very interesting. On the whole I love Malta and would certainly return back if I got a good deal. However this time I'd like to go to the St. Julians Area which has plenty of 5 star hotels.
“excellent hotel”
stayed here for 4 nights and the hotel was excellent rooms cleaned daily the food in the buffet restaurant was excellent, plenty of choice could not fault it, my only gripe was the internet access in my room was off sat sun, i was asured it would be fixed mon morn and it was fixed by 8.30am, breakast was also good with plenty of choice, whilst there it was my birthday and i had a card pushed under my door from the management to wish me a happy birthday also enclosed was a voucher for a free bottle of wine, i thought that was a very nice touch i would definatly stay here again i have sampled many 4 star hotels around malta but this hotel will be my only choice in future
“Very nice place to relax and unwind”
f you are looking for a easy relaxing holiday then this is the place. My party included teenagers, middle agers and pensioners and we all found it very enjoyable. The buffet breakfast was impressive and the pensioners one of whom can’t walk very well enjoyed the buffet suppers which they felt were good value. I booked B+B and felt this was a very good deal. I had asked for rooms with sea view which we got and all rooms were comfortable and nicely decorated. However some were a little poky with a silly unusable balcony. Others had great space and balcony so for us it was pot luck which room we got. I had a spa taster session which was a nice way to start my holiday, very relaxing. The only slight annoyance was once I’d braved the cold bar pool so I could swim to the bar and enjoy a cocktail only to be told it was closed! I must say though that once in the pool it was very nice. There are 5+ pools to choose from so you can find a quiet spot if you don’t like lively. The staff are very happy to help and all seemed very pleasant to me. I would go gain if looking for a chill out holiday. We did jump on one of the old busses for a trip to Valetta to see St Pauls but I’m really into art or old churches/architecture so Malta, for me anyway, is a lazy relaxed hotel holiday and the Dolmen is perfect for that.
“good central place to stay”
the dolmen resort is a location if you are intending to do alot of sight seeing,it is next door to the Qwara bus terminal. the room was kept clean and tidy but did not have tea and coffee making facilities which was a miss, but we bought a kettle for ten pound in the market problem sorted . the food was very good breakfast usual spicy sausages crispy bacon but eggs realy nice and plenty of choice.dinner time we had five course meals most nights and a carafe of house wine .always a good choice to pick from their was usually a roast freshly carved and pasta or risotto cooked in the dining room the veg was cooked to perfection slightly crisp not boiled to a pulp . the staff were very helpful and friendly the forth floor seemed to be getting a make over but did not hear any building work
“Overall very good”
Hotel was pretty good, but it isn't near a sandy beach. The best beach in Melliah Bay which is north of Qawra and takes around 10-20 mins on the bus. The air conditioning in the hotel wasn't very good, felt very hot at night. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of selection from fried eggs, cereal to hot croissants and chocolate sauce. The area of Qawra is very touristy, plenty of Brits around and overall is mainly geared for the elderly. If I have a chance to go back to Malta, which I probably will because I loved it, I would stay in the St. Julien's Bay area. That place is a must, you have to go there. Area is beautiful and a lot more youthful in comparison to Qawra.
“Would recommend highly”
Overall this hotel was excellent value for money and ensured a very comfortable stay. The hotel's spa is excellent and great value for money. The buffet breakfast had a great variety. The hotel is situated near bars, restuarants and shops, very convenient altogether. Very suitable for families due to kids club that runs in the hotel every day, 2 lovely swimming pools in a large area, beach approx 3 to 4 min walk, a very nice break indeed!
“Nice Hotel, Great Staff, Ripoff Internet Charge”
The Dolmen is about as good as one of the better Marriotts, but with the advantage of really helpful, efficient and friendly staff. Major downside - A charge of Euro 3.50/hour for an internet connection. It was cheaper to use my T-Moble dongle, and the revenue they might gain from this charge is far less than they will lose by upsetting travellers. Minor downsides - Beds too hard, pillows too spongy, breakfast uses canned, not fresh fruit. Major upside - The restaurant (Sibylle or some such name) is excellent. It's one of the few times I've chosen to eat in a Hotel's restaurant more than once! And it's not expensive by Malta standards
“Hotel Dolmen a Malta”
The Hotel offers clean rooms, and toilets, the night bar and the facilities were excellent as well as the views, but the rom needs some decoration, otherwise they look a little bit cold.
“Clean and tidy”
would not call this a 4 star hotel only 3 at the most. Food was good with 2 restaurants in the complex if you do not like hotel food. For such a large hotel there was not enough signage. Easy to get lost. Bugibba rather fraying at the edges, could do with a coat of paint, perhaps EU money will upgrade it. Public transport easy to use and very cheap.

St. Paul's Bay, Malta: The adjoining resorts of Qawra and Bugibba are set on the large St Pauls Bay, where St Paul was allegedly shipwrecked. Both resorts were purpose-built in the 1980s. Bugibba has a small square, shops, bars, budget restaurants, nightclubs and a small harbour from which several pleasure boat excursions run. Swimming and water sports take place off the promenade and at lidos. Activities in Qawra tend to be hotel-based.
