I stayed at the Calypso for a week in August 2014. As woman travelling alone, it was particularly important for me to feel safe, whilst having a sociable time. The staff were warm and friendly, and clearly interested in the well-being of their guests. I was able to use the office to check in on line for my flight home! My room was spotless. The upstairs pool was smaller than I had anticipated, as it is a plunge pool, but the sea was right across the road. The Calypso is nicely situated and I was able to access shops and fab restaurants very nearby. I'l be going back there soon, and I would strongly recommend it.

Staff were very friendly and obliging. The food was superb. They advised us of a suitable route to the airport next morning. The staff were quite open about the fact that refurbishment of the hotel is a work in progress,
All staff were lovely and extremely helpful. Room had few minor things which could be improved upon such as two chairs inside (there were 2 on balcony), better English language TV channels. Breakfast was good- very varied - I managed to have a different thing every day for 7 days. Loved the chef cooking omelettes to order-juggling many frying pans at once! Management invited us to a drinks reception to give them feedback on our stay so they are obviously committed to improvement. Indoor pool was a bit murky when we swam, outdoor pool was great - lovely to sit in the sun high above everything else. The beach was great too as it was easy to get a sunbed and the beach there is sandy unlike a lot of the coastline which is just rocky.
Had four fantastic relaxing days at paradise bay. No complaints at all. Rooms were spacious with lovely views. Hired a car to travel the island because the hotel is a little isolated but this is what we wanted. Feel very fortunate to have chosen this hotel for our break as it covered all our needs. We had a teenager and pensioner in our party and everyone was satisfied. Paradise bay lived up to its name.
We did a lot of research before booking this hotel and were not disappointed. First tip: book a room with a sea view if you want a stunning view! Alot of rooms back onto a stepped alleyway which is not a problem as it was quiet but I imagine you only get a view if you request one like we did. We were self-catering as that suited us but we did eat in the cave bar one lunchtime and found our food matched the quality of the food in all the restaurants in Mellieha - exceptional, tasty and good value for money. We wanted to explore the island - this hotel is in an ideal location for northern destinations, Gozo, Comino & Valletta as bus connections are good. Do not pick this hotel if you want a week on the beach, Mellieha's beach is a bus journey away. We were too busy exploring to spend alot of time using the hotel's facilities but what we saw was of a high standard. We found staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. I'd would however advise booking a transfer from the airport for this hotel. We caught the bus and were lucky to be dropped at the top of the hill managing to find the hotel by walking downhill with more luck than judgement! If you approach the hotel from the bottom of the town with suitcases you will not be very happy with the hundreds of steps you'll have to climb to get to reception. Its fine once you're checked in as you'll be able to take the hotel lift. Mellieha is a lovely town, not taken over by tourists but gently embracing them. We plan to return!
