Secret gem

Lovely hotel near the centre and attractions of Palma. Rooms very adequate for short stay, in need of bit of love and attention but very clean. Staff very helpful and friendly and breakfast great bonus. Would definitely recommend.

Historic building in central location.

Posted 14-Jul-2014
Pros: A building full of history and character, centrally located.
Cons: A bar service would be an asset.
Location: Very central, convenient for shopping, business, or for visiting the cathedral and royal palace.
Attending a conference in the centre of Palma, I found the Born hotel convenient and comfortable. Breakfasts were excellent, and the staff very efficient.

Born Hotel Palma

Pros: The location.
Cons: See above
Location: See above
It is a very old former merchant's house, very historic feel about it, but it needs some updating to be honest, looked shabby in parts, the courtyard which is a good place to have breakfast needs a facelift. The breakfast was OK, nothing special, the coffee was good. The staff that we saw were pleasant and helpful. The bathroom didn't have enough space to put toiletries, and the towels were terrible, not much bigger than tea towels and very thin. The room itself, 201 overlooked the courtyard and was OK, nice and clean. Was awoken in the night by strange sounds, like moving furniture etc, or perhaps people going up and down the stairs, very strange! The location is perfect for a base in Palma, just up a small alley from the centre of the Born, close to all amenities and bus stops and bars. If someone wanted a base centrally and for a few nights only it would be OK but we only stayed for 4 nights and that was enough.

tucked away little gem

Pros: Entance of hotel and courtyard, central to palma, safe and relaxing.
Cons: cheerier reception staff, quite brusque at times.
Location: Cant remember the street but it is an artists area quite buzzing and different. visit valdermossa.
the hotel was pretty much as described by reviews and the hotel itself. It has the wow factor as you enter through the glass doors on arrival. We were lucky to have one of the cheerier receptionists who gave us the names of places for a nice tapas, and took our cases up the 3rd floor, we knew there was no lift, and my friend suffered from mobility problems. When we got into our room I was a little disappointed as the windows were so high up, they could barely be reached, and it gave the room a dingy feel. We enquired into a second floor room, although there was only seven steps between them, it did make a difference for my friend. We were told nothing could be done that night, but could move the following day to the floor below which was much better. The breakfasts as previously noted are adequate and lovely and clean. The experience everyone loves is breakfast in the courtyard and was a joy so beautiful. All in all a very good value hotel which is a pleasure to have stayed. Hotel Born is not far from the bus and train station, and there are plenty of destinations to visit. I would definitely visit again. (we did take own kettle though it is recommended when you come back after a full day out or first thing in a morning)

Palma city centre hotel

Pros: Great old building in excellent location Staff very attentive and helpful in all respects
Cons: Decoration and furnishings a little tired in places and a fresh fruit bowl for breakfast would be good.
Location: Plenty of very good tapas bars, cafes and restaurants nearby. Particulary enjoyed '5', genuine tapas bar at the side of square recommended.

Hotel of great character in wonderful location

Posted 24-May-2014
Pros: We loved the authentic Spanish feel to the hotel. It has lots of antique furniture and a odd layout that make it stand out from the modern hotels.
Cons: A lift would help
Location: The location is first rate and could not be beaten. The main sights of Palma - the Cathedral, promenade by the sea, shopping area, historic sights.
we booked the Hotel Born based on positive reviews and we were not disappointed. Located down a very narrow street just off the gorgeous Passeig Born we were delighted with the character and lovely Spanish feel to the place. The lack of a lift might deter some from opting for a room on the higher floors but we used the stair climb to get a bit of exercise and loved the view of the courtyard below from our window. The room was spotless, spacious with a spare small room off it complete with a second TV so plenty of room. The buffet breakfast was generous with plenty of choice and so nice to enjoy it under the giant tree that provided shade in the courtyard. You could not ask for a better location - a stone's throw from the landmark Cathedral and from the lovely promenade by the sea.

Comfort at a Reasonable Rate

Charming old world decor with comfortable room. A bit noisy at times during the day, but a good value for the location. Breakfast was excellent. Very friendly and accommodating staff.
