“Worst hotel, location, service ever.....”

Several aspects of the hotel are really bad, actually what you can read on the websites are just lies and lies and lies again. 1) Bad location The hotel is just 10 minutes boat away from the airport which makes it very close to Male and the airport. Then aircrafts and seaplanes starts to take off at 6am and woke us up 4 nights in a row until we went to the store on the island to buy ear plugs (yes, you got it right, they sell ear plugs on an island which is supposed to be a quiet heaven....) On top of this terrible air traffic, there is a huge sea traffic as we are close to Male, there are boats, ships and even tankers going around the island all day long, yesterday I could count up to 47 boat from my sun bed on the beach. Also kurumba is right in front of Rubbish island and you can see thte smoke from the rubbish getting burned all day long. Last but not least about the location, at night the sky is illuminated by....not the stars but by all the lights coming from Male, rubbish island and the airport.... 2) Service Most of the staff does not speak English and it is very difficult to order something a little bit different from what is on the menu as they don't get what you are asking for. We got charged several times more than what we actually ordered, this happened on the Christmas dinner which was just a 350$ buffet with out wine (for 2). Forget about having lunch a the beach bar as it takes more than 1 hour to get a pizza (which was cold when I finally got it)

“A Pleasure”

This was a wonderful visit for my wife and I. It is located somewhat close to the airport, so it doesn't feel as remote as some of the other islands, but the staff and amenities were fantastic.

“Great resort for families”

I would highly recommend Kurumba to families with children. The resort is in close proximity to Male, which means only an 8min boat ride to the island. This has the small drawback of being quite close to airport traffic. However, with small children, it is ideal to be close to the capital (e.g., sudden unexpected illnesses etc). Moreover, given the price, it is great value for the Maldives. We had a beautiful bungalow, right on the beach front. Moreover, the snorkelling on this island was out of the world. Some visitors have complained about the sea walls surrounding the island but this has the effect of calming the waters around the island. As a consequence, beginner snorkellers like myself can explore the reefs and the amazing aquatic life around the island with minimal fear of sharks and strong tides. Finally, Kurumba was very welcoming towards our little daughter, making every effort to ensure that we had a comfortable and fuss free stay.

“Best Holiday Ever”

I have travelled loads and I have to say that this was the best holiday ever. It was like visiting paradise. The staff were so helpful and had a can do attitude. The rooms were serviced twice a day. Fruits and soft drinks were handed out for free at the pool. The beach and restaurants never felt full of people, despite the hotel apparently being full to capacity. The only thing that I would mention is that the Maldives is very expensive, but I do not think that this is something that was limited to the hotel that we stayed at.

“Kurumba Excellent Stay”

This resort is located only 10 minutes away from Male's Airport. From the time you are met at the Airport by the resort representatives until the time you are sent off to your trip back home, you will be treated always as a very welcomed guest. A very private but yet a friendly atmosphere will add to the enjoyment of your stay. We loved the place and especially the variety of restaurants as well as the site seeing programs arranged by Kurumba. All members of the resort were highly trained and handled our all requests in the most professional way. A very excellent package and was definitely worth every single dollar spent.

Area recommendations

The resort arranges a number of trips to explore the neighborhood. I suggest the Male tour as well as Maldives experience programs.

“unbelievable from the moment we arrived at 2.30 am.”

we arrived at 2.30 am and could not have imagined what we would wake up to at Kurumba Maldives. Stayed 4/04 to 9/04,unbelievable. Highly recommend this property for a family or couple stay. Relaxed luxury without the over the top guests who have rediculous demands on services or team members. Multiple restaurants served brilliant meals that were not overpriced and the breakfast service catered for all tastes. When you need some quality time out to relax and rest, this property comes highly recommended. Next time we will travel with a group to share the spoils of the Maldives. “Not a 5 star property”

My flight reached Male at 10:30AM and it wasn't until 12 noon that i reached Kurumba. My room was not ready until 2PM whereas I expected the room to be ready when I got to the island. The room itself was lovely and large - one of the two AC units wasn't working but it was cool enough with the one that was. I had signed up for the meal plan and that was a mistake - the food that was served was of very poor quality and the selection was very limited. Lunch was very bad and dinner was only slightly better. You don't have much of a choice as the only other alternative is to leave the island to eat on the main island of Male. Breakfast was the same was what is served at a three star hotel - I had requested the chef to make a couple of items for breakfast but that request was never communicated to the chef. In addition the whole island is fumigated every day and all the plants are doused with pesticide morning and evening - they must have a rampant pest problem that they are trying to bury under gallons of poison!! The pity of the whole thing is that Kurumba is a gorgeous place to visit - but the quality of the food and the level of service does not match the amounts that are charged. There are better choices in the Maldives and I would suggest that you stay elsewhere - for the amount I was charged, I expected much better.
