“Did not quite make the grade!”

When we booked this hotel it was part of the Ritz Carlton group then 2 weeks before our booking date it dissapeared off their website. Despite many calls to the hotel and the Ritz we could noit find out what was happening. We decided to go on the trip anyway and chance it. The hotel has got everything you need and the room was large, clean and well furnished, just about a 5* I would say. We enjoyed our stay but having stayed in Ritz Carlton hotels all over the world, this hotel did not come near that standard. There was no bar open in the hotel and as it's in a remote location with nothing in walking distance, not what we expected. In fact apart from the reception staff the hotel was like anquiet apartment block.. zero atmosphere . The breakfast buffet we tried on Sunday morning for brunch was very dissapointing, and absolutelty not up to 5* standard, I have seen better in a UK Premier Inn ! If you just want a great room without the experience of a 5* hotel, then you will be ok..

“Simply sublime!”

The hotel is described as being half-way between Marbella and Estepona which makes it sound a little remote - as do the pictures of rolling countryside on the hotel website. However, it's actually just 15 mins in a cab to Marbella old town and Puerte Banus but it has the added bonus of being situated on a stunning golf course (the womens championship was taking place during our stay). The hotel is simply stunning, very large pool with an incredible spa (lots of different steam rooms and saunas). The fitness room is surprisingly good with 2 treadmills, cross trainer, 2 bikes etc. The bedrooms and bathrooms are absolutely enormous in the most basic category of room so I can't even imagine how good the suites are. Only negative was that the restaurant/bar service was a bit slow (exacerbated by the fact they had 2 weddings and a golf championship going on during our stay) and the casual dining was very limited in scope.

Area recommendations
I'd visit the surrounding area (the hotel has a whole A4 page of recommended restaurants) - our favorites were Los Bandidos in Marbella town and Finca Besaya in the hills. Just incredible food and service.

“Great hotel, few niggles”

It is hard to be critical of the hotel. Overall it was excellent. With a 5* hotel you expect everything to be perfect, sadly they just missed the mark. The biggest complaint is the air conditioning only managed to drop the temperature of the room a couple of degrees. We had maintenance come up and they explained it just didn't work very well. Also, being charged EUR20 a day for internet was simply unbelievable considering how much we spent to stay there! 2 big fails. Other than that though, the experience was fantastic - the hotel is immaculate and the staff are very helpful.

“Fantastic chilled out time - I recommend it”

Brilliant hotel - very plush but not stuffy. Made to feel very welcome. Definitely recommend it. Chilling out by the pool with a glass of wine is a must. Make sure you hire a car though...

“Impressive property with professional, courteous staff.”

Beautiful property set inland a short distance from Estapona. Ideal location for exploring Andalucia. Unless coming to enjoy the superb golf courses, you should have a car so you can explore the surroundings and get to stores. Rooms well appointed. Day drives to Seville, Granada, the beaches, Los Pueblos Blancos, Gibraltar, Jerez de la Frontera, and other popular destinations are all practical from this location.

Area recommendations
Visits to Alhambra (Granada), Ronda, Sevilla, and drives through the montains are all recommended diversions. Especially worthwhile is a visit to the Royal Andalusian Equestrian School in Jerez de la Frontera (with a visit to any of the many sherry makers of Jerez also worth the time). Finding local bars in towns to visit for morning coffee/pastries or various afternoon tapas (hors d'eurves) offered for modest cost will give you the opportunity to experience the local culture.
Getting there
A little tricky to get to. Ensure you print the detailed maps of the various local roads you need to use to get to the property (pay special attention to where to exit highways/service roads).
What to pack
Depending time of year temps vary from quite warm (shorts/light cotton) to cool (jackets for evenings). Several degrees cooler in mountains. Comfortable walking shoes (appropriate for uneven cobblestones and climbing in Roman ruins and Moorish castles).
Must see
Alhambra in Granada (reserve entry tickets in advance); Ronda; Castellar de la Frontera; Royal Andalusian Equestrian Training School (reserve tickets for show in advance); Gaucin; Sevilla (tour of the bullfighting ring; cathedral); Casares; and of course the Mediterranean.

“Lovely hotel, very friendly staff”

I just returned from a short break, having booked this as last a minute holiday to get away into the sun. The hotel is definately 5 star, with lovely views over the golf course, the pool is very picturesque and the restuarant food is very good indeed. The prices are a bit expensive and made worse with the current exchange rates but to be expected with a 5 star resort so not surprising. On the day of departure, the hotel was fully booked so I couldn't extend the checkout time however I was offered the use of the spar to shower and change before departing, everything was very organised, fluffy towels, dressing gown and slippers, the spar is large and I only wished that I had more time so that I could have experienced the spar treatments.

“Beautiful Hotel! Can't wait to go back”

Very lovely hotel and impeccable customer service. Be sure to inquire about the day trips, and don't forget to get a tour of the entire hotel- its like staying at a museum. One of the best parts was the pool area, absolutely delightful. The only thing I would change is the location, you need a car to get around and it is a good distance from the airport.
