“Good for a short break”

Excellent location for main historical attractions, friendly and efficient staff. Good breakfast. Clean rooms and facilities. Lots of restaurants and cafes nearby. Noisy with traffic if you like windows open. Try for a room high up and at the back overlooking the bullring. Good views on mountain view side of hotel. Ideal for a short break of 2 or 3 nights.

“Hotel Maestranza, Very Good Value”

The Maestranza is on the Avenue Canovas del Castillo #1 at the far end of the central park which was well manicured and stunningly beautiful. From the Airport take the express bus A. It makes one stop at the central bus station and then continues on to the end of the park. The hotel is just across the street and adjacent to a bakery on the corner. The bus will cost 2 euro per person compared to 18 euro for a cab, it only takes 20 minutes and allows you to see some of the old city along the way. The check-in was very efficient at 11:15 in the morning and my room was ready. I had room 509 which faced the Avenue. The view from the balcony to the left was the Mediterranean just two blocks away. To the right was the central park and the Alcazaba Castle which was a postcard perfect view. So much of the old city is within a 10 minute walk. My room had a double bed (very comfortable), desk and small but lovely bathroom. One drawback was that there were only 2 English speaking TV channels, BBC News and CNN. The room had no coffee/tea maker so that was a negative but it did have a mini-bar. There is a well stocked convenience store across the street .The breakfast buffet that was included in the hotel price was extensive and quite good. You won’t be disappointed in the variety of hot and cold selections and wide array of fresh fruits including a warm chocolate fountain for dipping. The front desk was very helpful, spoke good English and delivered on what they promised.

Dining
Surrounding the hotel are many bistos, bars and tapas restaurants. You will have a wide choice and at reasonable prices.

“A Very Good Hotel”

The hotel is about a 20 minute walk from Malaga's Larios Street, the city centre. There is a taxi rank outside should you require one. The roof terrace looks over the Plaza de Toros (bullring). View from our balcony was the Azkabar palace and Gibralfaro castle and to the port and and city. Room was spacious for two, the bed a king size(?). The air con worked well. The bathroom was clean and adequately stocked with things you may have forgotten to bring, e.g. toothbrush and paste, razor blade and shaving cream. We did not use the restaurant in the hotel, instead we had breakfast in the bakery/cafe adjacent to the hotel. The maid service was good. I would stay here again.

Area recommendations
The centre of Malaga has plenty to see. I suggest you use a sightseeing bus to determine further areas to explore as its route take you through some interesting neighbourhoods.
Dining
There are ample places to eat in Malaga, from traditional Spanish to Chinese to Italian.

“Amazing hotel!”

We went on September 2-5. I read reviews on tripadvisor and the reviews were great and the deal on expedia was also. So we decided on this hotel. ALL rooms have balconies either facing the water, city, or bull fighting ring. We were on the 2nd floor facing the bull fighting ring! So cool! It probably would've been nicer to be higher up but that's ok. The roof of the hotel has an amazing panoramic view of the city! AND a hot tub, sauna, and lounge chairs! It doesn't have a pool but why do you need one if you have the Mediterranean only a 10 minute walk away! We did not get the breakfast at the hotel..instead we went to the french bakery right next door! Great coffee and great chocolate crossaints! The staff even recommended a great beach only 10 minute cab ride away that was more quiet, restaurants, beach chairs, and great for snorkeling! The hotel is also decorated with Picasso copies since Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga, Spain! THe hotel was great in every way and so was the staff! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL! :)

“Nice location, good view”

It was really nice to stay in this hotel. It offered us a superior room and that had jaccuzi in it. Its nicely located and very close to the beach, castle, cathedral, port, museo picasso and central shopping area. Staff is extremely approachable and very friendly. Very close to bus stop and supermarket was just right across. I would certainly recommend it to everyone as it is value for money. Only downside is service charge for room service and small lift but that gets overshadowed by extremely good offerings of the hotel.

Area recommendations
Go to street around museo picasso as that offers the amazing ambience. Walk towards castle, its tiring and has a center viewing point which offers a better view than castle itself. I would recommend only walking till this viewing point as going to castle does not offer anything more than this and also requires an entry charge whereas this central viewing point is free of charge and is better view.

“great location friendly service”

The staff here was very friendly and made some great suggestions for tours and restaurants. The location was very close to the beach and a short walk away from the main plaza and shopping center.

Area recommendations
The area around the hotel was perfect because it is close to the beach and the main plaza.
Family-friendly activities
Book a tour with the Malaga Bike tours, it was very fun and informative.

“Can't wait to go back”

This is a very nice hotel. The room has a great view of the city-- with breathtaking views of the mountains, nearby castle, bullring and the ocean. The hotel is also convenient to the beach, restaurants, shops and more.

“Hard to find but mighty fine”

My biggest complaint was that we drove here and couldn't figure out where to park. We ended up pulling into a taxi lane and walking into the front desk, they sent somebody out to unload our bags and park our car for us - WELL WORTH IT! Our time was limited in the area but we were close to the beach, shopping, and museums. The rooms were very nice and breakfast was great. All and all very happy! Would recommend others to go here!

“Good hotel at reasonable cost.”

Good clean 4 star hotel if visiting the beach areas but a little way out from the old town centre with a pleasant 10 minute walk through gardens to main shopping areas. That is not a problem if you are fit but could be an issue for seniors as the taxi drivers do not like taking a fare for a short ride into the old centre.Good sized rooms and bathroom with views to the port and castle but do not provide any in room tea or coffee making facilities. Few restaurants in the immediate area were open for 7pm dinner but things were more lively in the restaurant/bars after about 9pm. There is a great patisserie for coffees, light breakfasts and lunches as well as a small general store for small items located a few steps from the hotel entrance. Would stay at this hotel again in the future

Area recommendations
Old city centre as there are many tourist spots, shops, restaurants and bars that in easy walking distance that are open all day and into the evening. The atmosphere in the city centre is lively and more in keeping with what one expects in Spanish lifestyle.
Getting there
Iberia flies from London Heathrow to Madrid with connection to Malaga. Airport is located on the west side of town and a taxi fare to the city costs between Euro 20 to 25.
Getting around
Spain has a very good bus system which links all the major cities. Seats have to be booked either via the internet or in person at the bus station a few kms from the old city centre. Malaga also has a very modern railway station adjacent to the bus station with express trains operated by Renfre to many major cities.
Must see
Picasso Museum and take walk or bus up to top of the castle overlooking the city. Hop On Hop Off bus tour ( 17Euro) is worthwhile for short time visitors to get around major tourist spots in the city.
Dining
Dining can be inexpensive especially if the menu of the day is selected. 3 course lunch with bread and a beer, tea or coffee for 10Euro is available is some restaurants and is very good value. Wide selection of good restaurants in the old city centre.
Outdoors or beach
Nearby beaches have kms of dark brown sand and not golden sand as inferred in some travel brochures.

“Nice location”

It was a pleasant stay, even though the room wasn't as clean as you would expect, especially in a 4 stars hotel. The opening time of spa-gym is extremely disappointing, only five hours a day (and closed all Sunday).
