There was lots of noise coming from the street. Hotel staff not very sympathetic.

Exactly what we needed!
We stayed for 2 days, hotel was very well located next to train station and in short walking distance from the Meenakshi temple. We felt quite secure there despite chaotic streets just outside. Comfortable room, nothing fancy. Staff very helpful in making travel suggestions. The restaurant had very well priced, delicious food. Roof top only open at night. Only disappointment was that when we wanted a beer on the rooftop we were sent away to the depressing dark basement bar.

GOOD LOCATION - REASONABLE TARIFF
I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights, that is 11th & 12th of December,2014 in connection with my conference. Generally the rooms are good.But the complimentary breakfast is much below the standard and I will it needs to be looked into. Similarly the car parking facility is also limited space.

Great stay in Madurai
Great hotel with superb staff. Very helpful with directions and service. VERY close to the Meenakshi Amman temple. I will not hesitate to visit again!

Madurai Residency staff are very good and the Hotel's 24 hour check in policy is helpful. The Hotels furnishings and in-house kits and toiletries is well thought out and useful. The food is above average / good. The cleanliness and upkeep needs to be better.

Nice enough staff, wifi only available in the lobby when they say it's on all floors. Just have to put up with the mosquitos at your feet. Not too bad until the last night when workers on the roof began drilling holes & banging at 11pm for the next 4 hrs. Not happy about that & no apology or offer of discount. AC in room was good

This hotel is well positioned in a bustling area, very clean and comfortable room, with a wonderful 24 hour check-out arrangement which is great if you are leaving late in the day.

Aside from the strong smell of mothballs this hotel was quite good. Probably great for the area. The manager was very friendly and helpful and the free breakfast was super. Clean rooms, card lock doors, excellent front desk staff. A good choice.

Good location and good service
The hotel has good location - not too far from Meenakshi Temple and train station. Parking can be a problem if you are taking your own car. The restaurant where breakfast is served is too small. If the hotel is full, you won't get place to sit. The plates were not taken away immediately after people vacated the places. We ended up sitting at the table by just pushing aside old plates and no one bothered to take them till we got up. Breakfast was good and good variety. Dinner was a problem as on that day they just offered buffet in roof top restaurant and no other option to order. so ended up eating outside. Otherwise hotel was good. Room sizes are too small compared to price they charge.

There was abnormal delay in check-in time, though we intimated a day before on arrival time. It was due to Hotel renovation as per them, but we waited nearly 90 minutes in the lobby.

A pleasant stay...
We stayed one night as a base to see the temple and we found the hotel, service and room fine and definitely value for money. There was an Intrepid group passing through and they usually select reasonable hotels that provide good service? Free wifi too in the foyer - always a good thing! The rooftop restaurant was a good experience (for us) and we enjoyed our dinner there. The travel guy was helpful. The breakfast was fine too...... YMMV

Don't bother with this hotel
I thought we had booked a room for 3 people but in fact was for two with a very dirty mattress on the floor! This was only put down when once in the room for the night as the door couldn't be opened once the mattress was down. Very poor space. If there had been any emergency in the night.... Hadn't realised just how much expedia take for themselves as had to upgrade to a better room which ended up costing not much more than the first room. The staff was unwelcoming and unhelpful.

Disappointing on most levels...
This hotel was almost a joke, and we joked about it in our blog for the trip. We called it the "5-to-9" hotel because there was hot water in the showers reliably only from 5am to 9am... after that they would bring you a large bucket of hot water for showering if you asked several times for it and waited. This was also the "inverted 10-to-5" hotel because they had signs up indicating that there might be some remodeling underway, but only from "10-to-5." However the construction sounds began at 5am and continued, with loud pounding and scraping audible throughout the hotel, until 10pm each day. Cannot recommend until all the remodeling is done and service improves dramatically.

Bit of a dissapointment after the foyer!
Beautiful foyer with wall to wall marble and glass elevator but after that its all downhill. Renovation work taking place all day that you are not told about when booking. The room above us was being worked on from 8am! As most hotels in India work on a 24hr check-out system, our rooms were not ready although we didnt arrive until 6.30pm. We had to wait over 1 and a half hours before we could check-in...not fun when you have been travelling all day. Constant power cuts and TV forever losing signal. Levels 1-4 have been renovated, higher levels have not and those rooms are not great.

Room was very comfortable. Breakfast options for Westerners limited, but overall still good. Hotel and restaurant staff could use some more customer service training. Wifi should be available in all rooms, not just lobby. And printing from computer should be available at the business centre.

Just about walking distance from the Meenakshi temple, railway station, hotel Madhurai Residency offers the best of logistics with reasonable comfort in stay. Close to the famed Murugan Idly centre adds to the locationa advantage of the hotel

We stayed in this hotel for a night when we visited Meenakshi Temple in October. We had booked the rooms on Expedia, but when we turned up at the hotel, the reception made us wait 45 min for check-in. The front-office staff just seemed disinterested. The hotel is quite close to the temple and is also very close to the railway station. There is covered valet parking available in the basement, which is a plus. Rooms were just about clean; breakfast was ok - nothing that would befit its claim of being a three-star hotel. There don't seem to be too many choices in the vicinity, so this might still be your best bet in the heart of the city.

Excellent & clean room, very good beds and spacious but bathroom is tiny and not well-designed ! TV was not working in the room for the duration of our stay, that was disappointing. Food in restaurant is very good. Travel agency support could be better, not very responsive. Very well-located hotel.

They treat customers like slaves, i had left my room keys at my friends place hence reported to the receptionist and requested them for spare ones, the receptionist said he can open the room but cannot switch on the power for me. I pleaded so that i can vacate and move to a different hotel but they made me wait for 2 hours and by then the shift time had ended for the receptionist, he walked off saying that it was not under his control anymore. By then i sent my driver to pick up the keys which i had left at my friends place, vacated the hotel immediately.

Decent place in the centre of the city
Its a decent place in the centre of the city. In absolute terms, may not worth the money but relatively considering the rates in nearby hotels, its decent. Location is a big advantage point making you save a bit otherwise!!

Recent stay at Madurai residency
It was a very nice stay and the accomodation is very nice. If one comes exclusively for the darshan of Goddess MEENAKSHI & SUNDERESWAR this is the best location. It is just like an evening/ morning walk. The overall ambiance is very good. The beauty of the hotel is the roof garden where one can have a panoromic view of the city Madurai.

Perfect Stay at Madurai Residency
The hotel is very near to railway station. The room was clean and the staff was very friendly. I had booked this hotel for my parents stay. They said that they had the most wonderful time there. The hotel helped them visit the important tourist spots in Madurai. They had to travel to Rameswaram from Madurai and the hotel had many services for this. I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone.

Just about the worst hotel in which I've stayed in India - or anywhere. It reminded me of a very bad Indian hotel from about 15 years ago. The staff were useless, my room was next to a service lift and service stairs, the staff were noisey next door until 1am, the sheets were ripped, the rooms worn down and very dark, the AC was extremely noisey, the bathroom was primitive, the breakfast basic, etc. The temple etc is great but I was so pleased when I left the hotel and reached Madurai Airport to fly to Chennai!
