“Outstanding Location”

The hotel was centrally located with a 15 minute walk to the major museums and Retiro Park in one direction and a 15 minute walk to the Palacio Real and Opera and Oeste Park in the other. Additionally it was only a 5 minute walk to the Metro @ Sol. The staff of the hotel was more than helpful with terrific suggestions about places to eat and the best Flamenco place in Madrid. They also called our prior hotel for us since we had left a few items in the room there and made sure they were delivered. The buffet breakfast was excellent and located in a very pleasant room. The negative with our room was the absence of adequate lighting or at least the placement of the available lights. The bathroom lacked a bidet which was the only hotel we were in in Spain that did so. The opening to the WC was only 18" wide so it would be a problem for anyone with excess weight. All in all I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay at a mid price hotel in Madrid.

Area recommendations
The Santa Ana Plaza area was a terrific place to stay.

“Just as nice as the first time we stayed there”

The hotel remains as fresh as when newly opened - everything worked great. Being on the corner of the lively Santa Ana square with it's dozen restaurants and bars is a big plus. The rooms are open plan (only the toilet area is completely closed off) which makes it fun for lodgers that are intimate with each other. I strongly recommend the hotel to people who enjoy new experiences. The breakfast for 6 euros is a really good deal

Shopping

Dining
Use the "Menu del Dia" option for the late lunch meal - usually includes an appetizer, entree, bread, wine or beer andcoffee or dessert - can't go wrong for 10 to 15 euros. Have Tapas for late dinner - Try the Tapas Bar of Dolores off Huertas street or any place on the Plaza de Santa Ana The restaurant "Botin" is the oldest in Europe and yes, it's touristy but the food and ambience is great. Avoid the crowded first floor and call for reservations Have hot chocolate and churros as a snack or for dinner (in the winter) - very special in Spain.

“Marvelous Staff, Excellent Location”

You will not find a better service-oriented hotel staff without paying several hundred dollars per night more. The location is ideal, if you are touring central Madrid and most of the tourist destinations. Much of the "scenery" is well within a short walking distance. We 'came and went' at all hours of several days, and each of the front-desk personnel was friendly, accomodating, and went out of their way to attempt to solve any problems we presented them with. We have stayed in pricier hotels in Madrid, with larger and more replete facilities, but at a much higher cost. Other than the shower placement, which is mentioned in other comments, and a minimal amount of storage space, there are no drawbacks to this hotel, and those, frankly, were of little or no consequence to us. We would certainly recommend this facility and their staff - these people are, to a person, excellent.

Area recommendations
All of them. We rent scooters, throughout Europe, and therefore cover a much broader cross-section of any city, and Madrid has many. We have not identified any unworthy areas for visit in this city, even though I am sure there must be some.
Shopping
Madrid has fewer wine stores than one would expect for the Capital of Spain, but the best, if you are seeking price AND selection, is Bodega Santa Cecilia, on the upper west side. We own wine-oriented restaurants and are collectors so this is one of our missions within each city that might have purchase-worthy offerings.

“Great Hotel!”

My boyfriend and I were very impressed with this hotel. At check-in the hotel staff were very nice. As it was our first time to Madrid they provided us with a map and even went so far as to mark on it where the important attractions were that shouldn't be missed. The hotel location was great, easy walking distance to a lot of the sites (Prado Museum, Royal Palace, Plaza Mayor, Templo de Debod) as well as a metro stop for anything too far to walk to. We would stay there again and would definitely recommend it to others.

“The Best - Won't stay anywhere else in Madrid!”

After a week of staying in a mediocre hotel that claimed to be 5 stars in Tenerife...walking into Room Mate Alicia was that much better of an experience. The staff was the most friendly and knowledgable staff that I have met in any hotel recently. The location of the hotel is perfect and you can walk to anything from there. The decor of the rooms is very calming and comfortable & the breakfasts are great! The front desk staff even mailed my "lost luggage" claim for me as I was rushing to the airport the day of our departure. They really made an "OK' vacation great at the end!

“Great boutique hotel”

A great boutique hotel, with a perfect location in the old town of madrid. Breakfast was good. Free wi-fi a bonus. Only a leaky shower cubicle was a let-down, but not a big problem. Highly recommended.

“Fantastc Hotel in a Superb Central Location”

Fantastic hotel in a superb location. I've been 3 times and had no problems at all. Staff are fantastic and very helpful.

Area recommendations
Visit Casa Mingos (Av. Florida) for roast chicken that is out of this world, with fantastic cider. The bars in the old town are vibrant and make for a great night out. The cable car to Casa del Campo is fun & well worth 5 Euros. A walk through the Retiro on a Sunday morning is lovely, crowded with locals and a great way to clear the head after a long Saturday night enjoying Madrid's brilliant nightlife.
