“wouldn't stay there again”
We had stayed at another Petit Palace hotel in Barcelona which was wonderful. This one left much to be desired. The air conditioning didn't work the entire time we were there (5 nights), and the lobby was dirty. Our room was cramped, but we expect that somewhat in Europe. We couldn't open our window at night for cool air because the area around the hotel was so noisy and this continued until after midnight. The staff was really not overly accommodating and were all young girls. We didn't have any specific needs but didn't feel that they were overly available if we did.
“Tiny gloomy room, awkward layout, inaccessible network”
We actually wouldn't have minded the incredibly small room if it had not had a large one-meter-square post down the center, right by the bed, which made even getting around the room very awkward. The overall effect was depressingly claustrophobic, and was made worse by the extremely low lighting both in the hallways and in the room, even with all lights on. It was a struggle to find the card slot to turn the lights on when we entered, even once we knew where to look. We never could get a wireless internet signal, as advertised. However, the fixtures were very nice and the location superb for tourism.
“Excellent service”
The hotel was neat and clean everywhere. All the people from the desk where very helpfull, and always had a smile in their faces.
“Center of Madrid”
Excellent location, pleasant stuff. Avoid inner rooms. Glass roof breakfast room with excellent view onto Alcala and Gran Via.
“Skip it.”
Poor service and aminities. Elevator poor. Staff no where to be found. Resturaunt is a joke. Neighborhood is good as is location. Plenty better in the area at the same or lower cost.
“Great location and neighborhood”
Plusses are location, laptop in every room, internet access and wi-fi, nice bathrooms. Lots of restaurants and stuff to do within walking distance; metro stop right outside hotel. Queen bed room was really tiny, almost impossible to access wardrobe, uncomfortable for one person never mind two. Room with 2 twin beds was a much better setup. Decor is black and gray, including xmas decorations. Hotel was noisy internally, could hear noises from corridor and other rooms. Didn't find street noise a problem.
“Worst hotel experience”
I have booked all my stays with expedia during this last five years. this is the only hotel that has failed both my expectations and expedia so bad so far. I stayed one night. the room was cold. I booked it for four nights. the hotel has only two young guys as staff. I left the next day without checking out. the hotel should not be rated more than 2 stars.
“What does 4 Stars mean?”
We are a mature couple with one person who needs handicap facilities. The room was adequate for a handicap person. The hotel staff at the front desk were helpful and friendly. The hotel location is great - almost sits on an underground station with an elevator for handicap and is an easy walk to Plaza del Sol and Plaza Mayor. It is a bit of a march to the Prado, the Thyssen and the Royal Palace. However, the ambiance is of a 3 star hotel at best. The entrance is up about 25 steps although there is an elevator it lets you out about 10 steps above the desk. We were there for five nights but returned two weeks later to a real 4 start hotel around the corner for the same price. Would not use this hotel again.
“Ideal location”
We really liked the location, the staff, and the free breakfasts were well stocked. The rooms were tiny (that's Europe for you!) but you don't want to stay in room too long anyways! The wireless internet did not work for us but we just used the ethernet connection for the PC in the room for our laptops, so it was not an issue. The front desk attendants do speak some English, otherwise it's Spanish all over. The location is excellent. It is off the hop-on-hop-off tour bus route, the metro, and short walks to several tourist attractions.
“HT Hotel”
If you like modern design and appreciate Internet service in your room, this hotel might be for you. It's perfectly located at the very center of the city, close to old town and major museums. Staff is friendly, rooms are clean, and service is good. Disadvantages are: stairs at the entrance and very small elevator. Also, we would not recommend to have breakfast at the hotel: at the cafeteria around the corner it's twice cheaper.
