Excellent value for money, clean, good location and friendly staff. Hairdryer in the room, free safe with hand soap and shower gel. On check out you can leave your bags in the main hotel that’s part of the hostel. Excellent Irish bar opposite and some good restaurants close by. I would definitely stay here again. The rooms are on the small side but was perfect for a city break. To improve a kettle and coffee/tea would be nice and extra pillows.

Getting to The hotel was a nightmare as no information was provided in advance. Guides and directions should have been emailed when booking was confirmed. No car access and parking is a far walk. Then trying to communicate and ask for help with staff was difficult. Tried calling and then said he’d send info over via text instead of telling us on the phone so we drove two 25 min laps around Barcelona bc I it’s so difficult to get to where you need to go. Room was so small, sheets and towels weren’t changed and we didn’t even get extra toilet paper.

It was not what we saw online. We did not get any sleep because the neighborhood was filled with people partying past 5am and the room was not soundproof. When we got to our hostel door there was a very large mound of smelly trash that looked like a fire hazard. Accommodations were sub-par.

Recommended location in heart of Madrid
Location, location, location. Frequent travellers, looking for comfort, cleanliness and the all important location. El Pasaje delivered on all. If you are in the city to see and experience the city then this if for you. Firm, comfortable bed, aircon, mini-fridge, safe, wifi, great shower. Everything you need. Within moments from the Hostal you have vibrant bars and restaurants but from our 'city' room, at the back of the property, we had undisturbed sleep. Within comfortable walking distance of all the major sights. Easy check in at Victoria 4, over the road. Staff friendly and helpful (very good English speaking, apologies for our lack of Spanish). Most helpful when we had a pre-booked taxi issue, nothing to do with the hotel, but the gentleman on reception (sorry, didn't get his name) was great at speaking to the driver etc for us. Gracias. If you want a swanky room with a great view, then look elsewhere, but if you want great value for money, clean, comfortable, in the heart of Madrid, then we would recommend this hostal.

Perfect for travelers not looking to spend a ton but still want privacy. Room is small but it's all you need. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful, just across the street. Hostel was quiet and clean, basic amenities but what you would expect at a hostel. Close to so many things, we walked everywhere. Plenty of bars within a block. I would stay again.

Very good reasonable priced hotel on a pedestrian street in the center of Madrid.
Small hotel run in conjunction with a second small hotel. Where I stayed was only rooms but the check in hotel was a very short distance away and also was the place in the morning for breakfast. My room was clean, the bed comfortable and the air conditioning did work. Also a nice little elevator. When I checked in, the people offered someone to help take my bag over to the hotel sleeping rooms and hence to my room, and since I am older, this was very appreciated. The breakfast itself was ample with a lot of choice in a buffet format. The coffee was especially good. The street this is located on is a very small pedestrian street but with several quite neat bars and restaurants where you can eat outdoors at night and sip an inexpensive wine. Several of the buildings have very beautiful exterior tile work that illustrates some of the people of the area and themes. The location is quite good for going to other places but is very much its tiny private area. This is by far one of the nicest places I have stayed in in the center of Madrid that is not too expensive.

Well kept small property, one of about 5 small buildings. No staff on site, all managed from neighboring Hotel Victoria. Small rooms, but all good, noise well abated from lively street below. Great breakfast in Hotel Victoria.

Good for a night or two max
All in all the service was good and it was a fair price for our stay. I traveled with my husband and we stayed at the place 3 nights and had much fun. However, the room was rather small and stuffy. There was a window you could open, but we kept it closed because of the noise from the street. Since it is a very centeral location, you can't really open the window for more than a few minutes. The ladies at the desk were nice and helpful,but the room wasn't so clean when we entered : The garbage in toilets wasnt emptied ans was full with someone else's trash, and there were used eye contacts near the sink. When we called the reception about it she came to clean it right away.

I sent a message to the Hostel; they didn't bother to reply with the consequence I had to move rooms after one night. There was no Manager on site. The amount charged for the second night was five times that for the first night (and that was expensive for a hostel) - absolutely no justification. Breakfast - poor - was at a local restaurant; - no facilities on site.

This hotel is horrible! No one was there when we arrived but the door was wide open. We waited for several minutes before being able to reach the front desk staff— who took 15 MINUTES— to arrive. They were totally unapologetic and proceeded to slowly type in our passport details manually. The process took close to 15 more minutes just for one passport. We finally went upstairs and said we would pick up our passports later. The rooms were in bad shape. Ours had twin beds instead of a double and the front desk didn’t make any offer to fix it when we complained. Our friends’ room wouldn’t open and they had to go back downstairs and get help from the front desk. The shower door in our room was also broken and barely closed. The last straw was that we made a local call— after being assured that it would be free— and the front desk then tried to collect .15 euro from us. We refused and they were quite rude saying the previous staff was uninformed, as though that is our problem! Wouldn’t stay here again despite a very nice location.

Excellent location, friendly staff
The hostel is just by Puerta del Sol metro station, great neighborhood, lots of shopping options, restaurants, night clubs. The room is very small, but bed was comfortable, great shower pressure and hot water, powerful AC, clean and cozy. Staff is very friendly and nice. Totally recommend

Great location, small but comfortable room
We stayed at Hostel El Pasaje during our 2015 trip to Spain prior to our camino frances. We loved the central location, within steps of Puerta del Sol. nearby lots of shops and restaurants. So during our trip back to Spain for another camino, we stayed in Hostel El Pasaje when we arrived in Madrid, then again after we completed our camino before we caught a plane for the US.

Central hotel in Madrid
We stayed at the Hostal on entry and then exit from Spain. On entry they had overbooked and we were taken to an very inferior room in a nearby building. We believed a partial refund or upgrade to their associated hotel should have been offered. Reception at the hostal spoke little English but we found that reception at the associated hotel spoke good English. Rooms were very cramped and the breakfast was heavily overpriced. Rooms were clean and fairly modern with good WiFi.

Moved down the road, slept above a discoteca.
There was an issue with the hotel and I was moved to another room in a building down the road. Unfortunately that one was right above El Sol discoteca, so I enjoyed some thumping dance music until 4am. There was also no window in the room which made it feel like a large, claustrophobic closet, though that's more normal in Spain than elsewhere. The wifi also did not work well at all. The staff was friendly and the location within the city is excellent, but those other issues made it a bit less enjoyable.

Was steps from Porta del Sol. Numerous places to eat, view Flamenco dancing, Plaza Mayor and the Mercado for quick food. Will stay again on future trips.

Great Location but Beds are Bad
We stayed here in November this year for a couple nights. The location is great. The price was decent but we spent an additional night at Hotel Europa on the way back from Barcelona and it was a teeny bit more expensive but SO much better and worth it. The beds are what killed it for me at El Pasaje. I didn't sleep a wink and everytime someone came and went you'd hear the door slam and jump. We actually overpaid the Saturday night. It cost us $180 that night and then $50 the Sunday night. For that kind of cash we could've stayed at Hotel Europa and I would've slept like a baby. I'm sad I didn't have a better experience.

It's a nice hostel for a short stay at a low price . Excellent location right in the center of Madrid. Walking distance to a lot of places to visit. I recommend it.

Very good location with warm front desk service. Due to flight delay, we reached technically the next day of our reservation. It should have gone as a no-show. However, when called from Madrid airport arrival lounge, the receptionist lady assured thought they are full house, will accommodate us. On arrival at hotel, she put me one of their sister hotels next door.

We had a wonderful 4 nights in Madrid. On arrival to the Hostel El Pasaje we were told that we were in the sister hotel (Hotel Victoria) across the road. We checked in to find a nice spacious modern room with balconette overlooking the street which was filled with bars and eateries. The location is superb and is highly recommended. We took the subway from the airport with our cabin cases and although having to change twice it was very convenient and cost 5euro p.p. Our only dissapointment was with the breakfast which served in the next door restaurant, we found the waiters dour even unpleasent and the breakfast itself very basic and miserly - coffee, small juice and 1 slice of toast.

Small room, GREAT location.
Staff went out of their way to be helpful and pleasant. Breakfast was, as reviewed by others, very basic but enough to get going. If you want to be in the middle of Madrid this is a very good choice.

The location of the hotel is great: in the heart of the city, few minutes walk from Sol metro station and with many nice bars and restaurants around. The window in the room didn't close properly so there was a lot of noise in the evening. The breakfast was very basic: a pastry, coffee/tea and glass of juice, bit disappointing. The room was quite cold and the bed was not very comfortable.

Great location, otherwise not the best.
This hotel is in a great location. The room was fine, but very cold. The bathroom nicely renovated. The staff are nice, but are never around. It is hard when you want to check in or out an no one is there. I was told this is because the hotel doesn't have enough staff, so it's not their fault. They also do not speak the most basic English. I am not an English snob. I do think travelers should not expect locals to speak English. However, I would expect that if I stay in a highly touristy area that my hotel would be able to say words like credit card and towel without having to call a translator. Considering the amount of competition in the area, I would stay somewhere else.

The rooms--especially the beds & bathrooms, most important--were impeccably clean. Staff was excellent, permitted us to store luggage at reception after our check-out, and helped us to chart our course daily on the local metro.

Hidden gem; the perfect hub for sightseeing!!
Considering the price ($56/night!), we were THRILLED with this little hotel!! The rooms were very basic--similar to a "business hotel" in Japan--but spotlessly clean and well-maintained. The beds were "comfortable enough" (not 5-star, but we slept very comfortably), and as 2 women travelling alone, we always felt very safe & welcome in this area. The free wi-fi signal was consistently strong, and the staff went out of their way to be very helpful & friendly. To top it all off, the location is prime...literally a block from Puerta del Sol, and smack-dab in the middle of so many attractions. Very easy walk to Plaza Mayor & Mercado de San Miguel, and just a little further (still pretty easy) to Museo del Prado & the Palacio Real de Madrid! Overall, I can't say enough about this place, and would highly recommend it to anyone (as long as you're not looking for luxury accommodations)!!

Excellent location! Near the action just off La Rambla. Close to Metro, restaurants, stores, tourist attractions. Great buffet breakfast. Room is quiet with windows closed, but lots of noise and activity outside in the street. The room was small but well planned with storage for your belongings.

Noisy neighborhood
Overall would have said excellent but a bus load of kids were very noisy way into the night 2 or 3 am. Also the deliveries and night workers are very noisy, singing loud, talking loud , clanging cans etc. and the office is closed, ring a bell for service. They stored the luggage but can't check in until 2 pm. Very excellent location. 2 min to metro and renfe train also at the same station. 10 min train ride back to shmartin station . Lots of restaurants and shopping nearby.

The hotel is located in the center of Madrid - walking distance to everything. Also, the train ride from the airport is very simple. Extremely clean, convenient, and comes at a great rate. Would stay here again.
