“great place to stay in the heart of Madrid!”
I was very happy with Best Western Arosa. It's a lovely, old building with comfortable, clean (if small) rooms, and a great reception area.
“Very nice hotel, when the building work is finished.”
Helpful staff and a good location. Rooms a bit pokey unles you upgrade and wasn't told about the scaffolding and work on the exterior starting at 7:30am The staff quickly moved us to the back (no view) but on the whole pretty good.
“convenient location”
In centre of Madrid within a few minutes walk of Puerta de Sol. Very good location but small room, expensive breakfast.
“Happy”
Excellent location in middle of the action. Staff was friendly and helpful.
“Dump in the Center of Madrid”
I would not stay at this hotel again. The interior is very old and has a dirty rusty feeling to it. The room was extremely hot and there was no air-conditioning to cool it down - the only way was to open the window to let the cooler air in which meant having the noise from the street. I stayed here in October so was already cool outside. The hotel advertises free Wi-Fi which was one of the main reasons I stayed here, but the Wi-Fi didn't work - extremely frustrating if you're trying to do work in the evening. I also picked it cause of the gym, but it was only open between 10am - 9pm making it impossible for the typical business traveller to go. The location is of course great - right on gran via - but outside of that, there was little else. Would not stay here again!
“Superb location”
The hotel itself needs some mainteinance (wallpaper, carpet, etc.)... Great showers. the best is the location. You can walk everywhere. Right on the metro line. Breakfast very basic.
“Decent hotel”
This hotel is in a very nice location, just off Gran Via near the metro. Hotel overall was good but rooms and the elevators are very small. Breakfast was adequate. Walls were fairly thin so hope you don't get noisy neighbors.
“Good location.”
The hotel is off of Gran Via and is very close to everything. However, the hotel staff is not all that friendly and the rooms are very small, but clean. The elevators are very small and awkwardly shaped.
“Excellent location.”
We loved our stay at the Best Western Arosa. They provided friendly and courteous service. The buffet breakfast was delicious. The location was excellent within a few minutes to the pedestrian streets which we strolled daily all the way to the Plaza Mayor, the Palacio Real and the Oriental Gardens. Overall a great hotel except for the unsightly scaffolding which after many months still hides the whole building.
“Slightly shabby”
If this is what passes for a 4* then I'm shocked. The best thing about the hotel was location. The pictures on the internet do not reflect what you actually get :(

Gran Via - Puerta Del Sol, Madrid, Spain: Musicals, hotels, shops and restaurants make the Gran Via a rich vein of entertainment, finishing in the east with the black dome of the Metropolis building. The heart of Madrid, the Puerta del Sol contains the statue of the symbolic bear of Madrid and Tio Pepe sherry sign. Westwards, the grand Plaza Mayor was once the site of inquisitions and executions, but is now mostly visited for its terrace cafes.
