“Best location in Madrid”

This hotel is in an excellent location right in the middle of where you want be in old Madrid it is in an excellent location to be able to walk to all major attractions. The hotel is good value for money it is very clean ,it is a bit dated but that adds to it's charm if you want a good value hotel with basic ammenities look no further. If you want a high tec hotel chain type hotel then this is not for you but if you like a nice building within a stunning architectural area this hotel is for you.

Area recommendations
If you are go to Madrid for a short break old Madrid is a great place to stay and expore.

“Trip to Madrid Spain”

The hotel is in convenient central location. Its ideal as several landmarks are within walking distance. Bus stop is also just outside hotel door. The staff was friendly, busy but friendly. The only gotcha is that the room I stayed is not really sound proof so getting a good night sleep was a little difficult. But its a busy bustling major metropolitan so you get what you pay for. I would consider going back

“2 Star Hotel”

I read reviews saying that European 2 star hotels are worse than 2 stars in the states, but didn't worry about it. Pros: large elevator (2 people and 4 suitcases actually fit); large, up-to-date bathroom; TV with cable; courteous front desk; good location Cons: it was about 37 C when we were there, and there was no A/C (even our friends at 2 different hostels had A/C); they gave us a small, broken fan instead, which was loud, and didn't help much; we constantly felt as though we were going to fall through the floor; the whole hotel was stuffy

Area recommendations
Puerta del Sol. It is within walking distance of most of Madrid's historical sights. And you can take the Metro to the others

“Terrible hotel!”

This hotel stopped being cared for in the 1970s! It was so runned down it was pathetic. Kind of a great old lady that someone forgot in time. The beds were hard and uncomfortable, the staff was unfriendly, the elevator was so small it barely held three of us, and the bathrooms were in dire need of remodeling. While the location was great, I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Area recommendations
I would recommend the heart of the city. Again, this is due to the ability to access everything on foot. We walked a lot, but it was well worth it. The price of taxis can be overwhelming if you depend on them for your main mode of travel.
When to go
August is the low season, so the prices are lower. The only draw back is the heat. If you can deal with this, I would definitely recommend August as the month to go. If you can get a hotel with a pool, it makes it that much more bearable.
What to pack
Sunscreen if you are going in the summer. It is hard to find in the shops there and definitely a necessity.
Shopping
Make sure you plan your shopping for weekdays and Saturdays, as most shops close on Sunday.

“I would go back & stay here in a heart-beat!!”

i LOVED this hotel (having been to many european budget hotels)...it was centrally located (we could have used the metro, but was able to walk everywhere & see everything we needed to, we were about 2 blocks from the center of Madrid/Plaza del Sol), safe (there are 2 formal front desk reception people at ALL times, 24hr/day), has a convenient taxi stand, metro stop, & breakfast places all right outside our front door, is basically clean (for a european 2-star hotel, this was GREAT!, pls remember everything is OLD in Europe), has it's own internet computer for hotel guests (buy an internet card at the front desk), it's own bar & restaurant (open later, never used them, too much outside to do).....REMEMBER, by American standards, this may be budget, but it's fine! we were never in our rooms except to sleep, anyways. & the staff were great...after stumbling thru rudimentary, unconjugated spanish (8 yrs of spanish a LONG time ago), the staff were able to explain so much to me, all in spanish! & so NICE!! by the way, in my opinion, it has one of the BIGGEST (small) elevators in Europe (seriously, alot of them are accurately described as "coffin-sized"). the only really bad problem was the noise from the streets (i think the bars/clubs let out at 2am & 5am, hopefully you won't be there for a national or religious holiday, & we were 7 stories high with windows open cuz it was very warm).

“Great for practical people”

This is a good 2 star hotel. Situated in central Madrid only a very short walk to the nearest metro station. Cleanliness first class. Obviously being a 2 star hotel one cannot expect a 5 star service and amenities but if you just need a clean place to sleep and shower and are not prepared (or can't afford) to spend a large sum of money, this is definitely for you. I would gladly stay again here. One problem, which is common in Madrid, practically no one speaks any English.

Area recommendations
Madrid is such a beautiful city. Everywhere is so attractive with Puerto del Sol and Plaza Mayor being on top of my list,
