I read the reviews before I booked the hotel and all I have to say is the staff at the front desk is WONDERFUL...they answered all of my million questions I had about Madrid. The people who worked at the phone booth were a little rude, but for the most part, what mattered were those at the front who were extremely helpful. The hotel is conveniently located right across the street from the metro which made it extremely convenient.

If you have a visa appointment with the US Consulate this hotel is very well located, just a block away. The hotel is very basic. My room had a kitchenette which doors didn't open all the way, a bed with very tough mattress and pillow and no side table or reading light. I closed the bathroom door and I got trapped inside. Fortunately I was able to open it with the toothbrush handle. Breakfast for the following morning was waiting for me on my arrival. It consisted in a cellophane wrapped croissant, a little box of orange juice, a tiny milk box and an envelope of instant coffee. Since I was not able to open the kitchenette's door, no breakfast for me. The place was clean though, and I was able to be at the Embassy at 7:30 AM.
The location is great: less than one mile from all the main museums: Prado, Thyssen-Bornemisza, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts. It was quiet. My wife and I stayed with our 7- year-old daughter in April 2014. I was hot, about 30 degrees. I cannot comment one the heating. There is a fridge and cooking facilities.
I LOVE this hotel! It is so charming, in an older Spanish building with quaint balconies. The location is perfect with a short walk to many museums and sights in Madrid. The metro is very close. The staff went out of their way to be helpful... I cannot say enough. Although centrally located, it is one block back from Calle de Alcala which is very busy, so the hotel is very quiet on a quaint street. Loved it!
