“Quiet Madeira charm”

Perfect location, walking distance to marina and town. Our room opened on to the small garden with heated pool. Quiet atmosphere, perfect for a relaxing break. More suited to couples than families with children. Lovely buffet breakfast. Staff very helpful in booking taxis and trips; instant polite and friendly service. Best hotel I've been in for a long time.

“The perfectly located small hotel”

Quinta Perestrello is small, friendly, clean and perfectly located, situated in a fashionable area of Funchal (e.g. the Godiva chocolate shop is in the same block) between the city centre and the Lido. Some reviews refer to traffic noise but this was not a problem for me as the garden vegetation and double-glazing minimised it and the plus side of traffic was the frequent buses into town. It's not a hotel for those who expect their entertainment on site or lots of public rooms - it's for those who want to be out and about, exploring Funchal and the island. But, if you want to laze by the pool, take tea on the terrace or a drink in the bar, that's all available, too. The breakfast buffet was excellent - a great start to a day's exploration. I dined in the hotel every night but there were several restaurants nearby and many guests simply took a bus into town. I'm looking forward to my next trip.

“Friendly personalised service”

I stayed in December for 5 days. A number of things impressed me: (1) In special requests (when submitting order) I mentioned I was vegan. The hotel specially bought soya milk, and would bring me a jug of it whenever they spotted me at breakfast. (2) Without any prompting, they wished my boyfriend a happy birthday (on the correct day), and left a bowl of ripe birthday fruit in the room. (3) When I mentioned to them that the mattress was too hard, the staff added another layer on top that definitely improved the comfort of the bed (although still a little firm by my standards). The hotel is situated midway in-between the Funchal main centre, and the Lido area. This is handy if you fancy eating in both locations. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel.

“NICE LTTLE HOTEL”

Nice little hotel. Although Standard Rooms were basic (no tissues in bathroom, or tea making facilities in room) and the bed and floor boards were a little squeaky, they were spotlessly clean and the hotel staff were helpful, friendly and obliging. Excellent breakfast to start your day. Hotel is situated in an ideal location mid way between old and new parts of Funchal.

“Very friendly”

Very friendly hotel, good food, pretty location and, despite being beside main road, no problem with traffic noise. Car park entrance a little bit of a challenge!

“Great Location”

A;though it was hard to find good directions or even a decent map to locate the hotel in our hire car, it was in prectice, easy to reach and well located on the edge of the tourist part of town. The staff were very friendly, the gardens and glimpses of the sea great. The air con in the bedrooms was silent and efficient! We'd go again.

“Happy memories”

We arrived at the hotel without our luggage, after a long days travel. We were made to feel very welcome and were provided with toothbrushes and toothpaste when we requested them. Our room was fabulous with a view looking out over the Atlantic Ocean and we could also see down into Funchal and the hotel grounds and pool. We read about the noise of the traffic, however this was no problem to us. I am a light sleeper but only heard it on our first night, despite sleeping with the windows open. The staff at the hotel were very attentive and helpful- checking on the progress of our luggage, checking flight times and posting our mail. The breakfasts were delicious with more than enough to eat. We also ate in the restaurant on 3 occasions. The watercress soup was delicious, also the espada with banana. We were sorry to leave. This was our first visit to Madiera hopefully not our last. We would definitely return to the Quinta Perestrello hotel.

“Lovey hotel. Would definitely stay there again.”

Lovely hotel - just what we wanted. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We were pleased to have been warned about traffic noise, but it didn't bother us. Easy 15 min walk into the centre of Funchal, or less in the opposite direction to the larger, more touristy hotels. Restaurant food was ok but not gourmet - adequate for a night in. We would definitely stay there again.

“Looking forward to our next visit”

We found the hotel to be very comfortable, with friendly and helpful staff. Room & ensuite were spacious and had pleasant terrace through oatiio doors. It's well situated, being on the edge of the hotel sector that is nearest the town centre, so an easy walk into town (harder work on the way back 'cos its uphill). There are good bus services outside the hotel too. Only slight criticism was the dining room had slightly too many tables, so a little too close to others for an intimate dinner, though this probably wouldn't be a problem during the summer months, as the ouside tables would doubtless be in use.

“An excellent alternative to the high rise hotels.”

This hotel is housed in an old mansion with only 3 floors, but no lifts. The rooms are very large, air conditioned, and spotlessly cleaned each day. The beds are large and very comfortable. The breakfast buffet was excellent with a wide range of hot and cold food available. Our only disappointment was the dinner we had on our first evening, it was very ordinary and, we felt, over priced. There are however many excellent restaurants in Funchal town, which can be walked into easily or accessed by bus not far from the hotel.
