“Excellent value”
Excellent hotel for the money and polite and courteous staff. Couldn't fault it.
“Great Hotel and impressive gardens.”
Cannot fault the Pestana Miramar from the time we arrived to the time we left.Marco at the reception was very helpfull and friendly nothing was to much trouble. Location was ideal, just a 15 to 20 minute stroll into center of Funchal,if you did not feel like walking buses are very frequent and the stop was just out side the hotel.
“Second time back to the Mirimar”
Last time I went I went with friends - this time I took my Husband but upgraded my room from a Classic to a Superior which overlooked the Pool on the lower level - lovely bright clean room with views to the mountain. The weather was beautiful all week and my Husband was very impressed. We are hoping to go back this coming September!
“highly recommended”
The hotel is of a very good standard and the staff were all very helpful. There was plenty of choice for breakfast which was included in our package. We found the kitchenette well equipped for making snacks and lunches and there are two supermarkets only a few minutes walk from the hotel where you can purchase all the basic stores. The gardens are beautiful and well maintained. The outdoor pool was a bit cold in March but the indoor pool and jacuzzi were fine! The hotel is well situated, not noisy but only about 15 -20 minutes walk down hill to Funchal centre and marina and about the same distance to the lido in the opposite direction. Good live entertainment every night in the Winter garden but not the place for those who like noisy or disco music. More aimed at the more mature age group although there are special facilities for children. Several good restaurants in walking distance and buffet supper at the hotel was fine.
“Very impressed!”
A very comfortable hotel twenty minutes walk from the centre of Funchal. Excellent breakfast provided.
“Beautiful surroundings”
The weather could have been kinder! Hotel location extremely convenient for bus routes and an easy walk into Funchal. Good choice of eating venues in the Hotel and other good restaurants close by. Grounds beautiful. 2 outdoor pools and an indoor pool in addition to spa facilities and a gym. We'd certainly be tempted back! Full day tours to East and West Madeira booked via expedia well organised, informative and in buses totally no more than 8 tourists, also to be recommended.
“Xmas Holiday”
Overall a very nice hotel. Negatives first - the hotel generally was "cool" with an apparent lack of heating in public areas on days when the sun wasn't very powerful - our room had a north facing balcony and had no inbuilt heating so we had to ask for a portable heater which arrived very quickly - also the cooked food for breakfast looked great but was stone cold, we tried various times from 7 till 10:30 but still cold. Now the positives - very friendly and helpful staff - excellent cleanliness - superb village layout of the bedrooms and public areas - near enough to the marina, town and other hotel areas that walking was possible (although the walking back up from town was more taxing) - cold breakfast food (bread, cheese, meat fruit etc) was plentiful and lots of choice - super pool areas (2) - spacious rooms with good facilities - entertainment laid on most nights (although not to our taste) - didn't try the food in the hotel apart from breakfast but can recommend local restaurants and bars for a good selection. Enjoyed the visit very much - a nice relax.
“First class”
This is the second visit to the Pestana Miramar. We visited briefly in September and were so impressed that we booked a week's stay just before Christmas. It was everything we had expected and more. The rooms overlook the pool and lush tropical gardens. The whole hotel was tastefully decorated for Christmas, and the ambiance was very welcoming and the staff more than helpful.. Couldn't fault it and will definitely be there again for our next visit.
“Very impressed”
Cannot fault this hotel.Especially staff were very courteous and helpful.Overall excellent
“Excellent hotel but be warned about overbooking of superior rooms.”
My wife and I stayed in the Miramar for ten days - 8th to 18th JULY - in what should have been a superior room in the Miramar Hotel. On arrival, however, we were shown to a room in the Miramar Village that is behind the Miramar itself. The room was o.k. but I certainly would not have classified it as a superior one. The next day I explained to reception that I had a booking for the Miramar Hotel, not the Miramar Village! I was politely informed that all the superior rooms in the Miramar Hotel were occupied. I stood my ground and showed my Expedia documentation, and to be fair, the lady at reception was very pleasant and understanding. She immediately got onto her computer to check out what other accommodation was available in the Miramar Hotel. She returned to tell me that because I had booked the Miramar Hotel and not the Miramar Village she would upgrade me to a better room than a superior room, in the Miramar Hotel. On being shown the new room we realised that she had upgraded us to a Junior Suite that I think may have been an empty timeshare as there are timeshares on site. I cannot fault the management in trying to cater for their guests and it pays to complain!
