“Great Location”

A great hotel in a very convenient postion compared with others. Although 5 star I would personally rate this hotel as 4 star. The hotel is in need of a facelift to update it and get away from the 60's/70's style. The staff were extremeley helpful and friendly. Bereakfast was good wth a wide range on offer - the cooked breakfast however was never really hot enough. Geat value for money I would recommend to others and if visting Madeira again would most certainly book the Pestana Park Casino

“Good for a short visit”

Our twin-bedded room with balcony and sea view on top floor was fine for us, especially since we requested a QUIET room. However, one night was severely disturbed by younger guests in next door room slamming doors and speaking loudly at 3.00am! We were also rather alarmed by the very noisy band playing in the foyer when we arrived on Sunday evening. Fortunately, this didn't happen on the other 3 nights. The staff were generally obliging and the breakfast buffet was up to normal standard for a hotel of this size and category. A major plus was the location makes access to the town centre and nearby restaurants an easy walk.

“Outdated but comfortable, clean and good location”

We have just come back from Madeira where we stayed at the Pestana Casino Park Hotel. The hotel is a bit outdated (60s-70s style) but comfortable, room was clean and large, breakfast was great with selection of breads, hot and cold buffet etc. We found the location very good as it was overlooking the harbour, short distance from the town centre (10-15 min walk) and not in the hotel zone which is a bit further. The service at the hotel as well as in the nearby restaurants and shops is excellent. The only negatives are 1) lack of fresh fruit and lots of tinned fruit for breakfast (which is bizarre considering the number of fresh fruit markets Funchal has), 2) you have to pay for wi-fi as it is not free at the hotel, 3) you have to pay for tennis court (10 Euros!!!) even if you are a hotel guest - which is ridiculous as you would expect to have these facilities at 5 star hotel for free, 4) prices for drinks are very high. There are plenty of restaurants and shops nearby and even a little supermarket just around the corner so do not waste money for food and drinks at the hotel. However, overall I would recommend this hotel as it is so near to the town centre, it has lots of space around, nice garden, lovely pool and even better in-door pool which is worthy to visit especially if you find the water in the out-door pool too cold.

“Very convenient for walking in to Funchal.”

Very comfortable clean room with good service and conveniently situated within 1 mile of Funchal. Breakfast was good but evening buffet not to our taste with veg overcooked and generally ‘school dinner’ catering for the large number. On the next night as an alternative, we ordered a Caesar Salad but it was drenched in bland mayonnaise. However, no need to eat in the hotel as there were a good variety of restaurants of different styles, quality and price with friendly atmosphere, some family run, within 500yds of the hotel.

“not a 5 star”

Whilst the location and outdoor fafilities are excellent, the overall standard falls short of what I would expect in a 5 star hotel. For example, we had great problems getting access to the internet when trying to book-in for our return flight, after the first morning there were no tablecloths at the breakfast meal (exposing table tops that were often chipped), there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the bedrooms, the same rubbish remained on our landing for several days, the quality of the towels was rather poor - all in all not what I expected.

Corridor carpet covered with dust,Breakfast coffee was always just warm as waiters filled up the jugs with left over coffee.Bread always stailed and with black mould some days.

“Great location and hotel.”

The Pestana Casino Park hotel is in an ideal location for walking into Funchal. It takes about 10-15 minutes. It is nearby a lovely park and numerous good restuarants. We could not fault the service we had at the hotel. Our only grumble was the parking. We hired a car and the hotel only has spaces for around 8-9 cars. Ridiculous when they have over 300 rooms. We managed to find parking in and around the hotel or you can pay to park in the Casino car park adjacent to the hotel. Make sure you have coins though to pay as the machine does not take notes. Some good restuarants around the area. A supermarket in about 5 mins from hotel plus Pharmacy around 10 mins away. Madeira is a lovely island, this is our third visit to it, and the weather was great. Went on boat trip and saw loads of dolphins. The breakfast in the hotel are great, plenty of choice. You can even have Champagne for breakfast as part of the package. We went to the hotel's Madeira evening which was good, the entertainment was fun also. We had one other evening meal in the hotel (Italian) which was also good, but expensive (60 euros). You can get meals outside the hotel in good walking distance. TV channels were good, kept up with the UK news. The pool areas are kept spotless and there was also plenty of sun loungers available any time of the day. The grounds of the hotel are kept beautiful, all credit to the gardeners.

“Definitely staying there again”

Great hotel, great location, great communal areas (swimming pools, bars, restaurants etc.), great breakfast. Nothing wrong with it really. When I go back to Madeira, I will definitely stay there again.

Hotel conveniently situated to walk into Funchal within 15 minutes. Although it is uphill returning to the hotel from Funchal taken at your own pace it is not too strenuous. Room with view to sea was good and extremely comfortable. Good toilet and wash room facilities. A good point was the Safe in the room which was available F.O.C. Breakfasts are excellent and should cover every-ones requirements. Cannot comment on dinner as ate out each evening. Staff are friendly. Pool, jacuzzi and other facilities were good.
