“great Madeiran holiday”
Excellent hotel with very good facilities, clean and comfortable with friendly staff. Lots of entertainment provided - could perhaps have had more comfier seating in the lounge but other than that very good.

“Good Beach Location”
Good Beach Location, being outside of Funchal makes car driving easier with direct access onto main roads. Clean, tidy and well equipped. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice garden and pool area. Good to have beach or pool option with children with good visibility to both from the pool area.
“Highly Recommended”
This was our second visit to this hotel and we will happily go back there. All rooms face the beach and have a fantastic view. The staff are always helpful and friendly, the rooms clean and comfortable. Breakfast is an extensive buffet, with champagne on Tuesdays and Fridays. At present the coast path is closed which makes the hotel a bit more isolated by foot, but this I understand is only short term while it is upgraded. A few miles out from Funchal but plenty of facilities near by with the added benefit of being quieter.
“Madeira first timer”
Hotel great , but problems finding it in hire car. No directions on website and is not well signposted. Local bus from the airport or a taxi much easier. Facilities very good - well worth 4 star rating. All rooms have sea view with balcony. Kitchenette spotless and has all items needed (except a corkscrew as we found) We stayed on B + B basis and there was a good selection of foods. Cooked food not always as hot as it might be, mainly due to people leaving off the covers. Good access throughout the hotel for any wheelchair users (and 2 lifts) Bar area very comfortable also TV area with reading materials . Themed evening buffets every night . We ate out so didn't sample this. Entertainment 6 nights per week seemed a bit limited as by the time we had been out to eat and came back, the entertainment had finished (by about 9.30) Hotel at one end of Funchal area and not much around this apart from a few bars/restaurants. Hotel courtesy bus into Funchal finished at 6pm so taxis needed after that. Walk into Funchal takes about 45 mins. Went to a dinner show at Casino and had taxi back - fairly expensive. (not late -- about 10.30) Guests were invited to presentation about holiday options and offerred gift for attending. Much longer than advised and seemed like timeshare although a bit different and called Vacation club. Went to presentation -- said no to offer but still got gift. (casino visit) Location of hotel only real issue.
“Pestana Bay OK”
Hotel was perfectly adequate for our needs. Staff at reception very helpful, nice pool area. Couldnt make out what other Expedia reviewers were referring to as nearby oil depot so didnt spoil our view at all. Room overlooking a spectacular view out to sea. Only disappointment was the food at the hotel, we only had B&B but use of some fresh produce (rather than tinned) would have been nice, still plenty of good restaurants within a short walk. Madeira itself was beautiful thoroughly recommend Funchal the capital for a visit, especailly the cable car ride up into Monte.

good hotel staff helpfull. one on reception abit frosty hotel location not good if you are bit infirm food very variable .trips reception organised these for us so really no complaints free bus into funchal which we found good
“Recommended”
Good hotel; nice rooms; good service; great sea views; lovely staff. Two buts: staff will steer you away from the official 'activities' organiser if they can and you may be disappointed by the substitute that is arranged for you. Hotel is on the beach - ocean views and sounds are great - but beach is a stone beach and uncomfortable to walk on let alone sit or lie on. Despite the 'buts' we would stay here again.
“all inclusive package”
We chose the Pestana Bay for a reasonably priced break. Unfortunately the tunnel linking the hotel to the next bay was closed and likely to be so for some time to come due to landslip. This made getting out and about more difficult unless you liked a lot of uphill walking/steps. The hotel bus is great during day time but taxis are expensive and it was this or a long walk in the evenings. We were very disapponted with the evening food selection- everything in sauces and the noisy cafeteria like ambience of the restaurant. Having experienced a five star half board package in Rhodes last autumn this struggles to be four star. Having said that we loved the island and found the hotel clean and comfortable and the staff very friendly and helpful.
