Comfortable hotel with 2 pools and a spa. Comfortable and cosy rather than glamorous although the flower arrangements are stunning! Room 212, Magnolia Suite was charming . Lovely wooden floors and windows looking over the terrace. Didn't get time to use the spa but, from pool side it looked impressive! Both pools were clean and sunbeds very comfy! Slightly older clientele meant that we generally had sole use of them! Pleasant walk down to town and walk up was made easier by the thoughts of the lovely bar, coffee and cocktails!
The food is good, the staff are good and seem happy which makes for relaxed guests!
We have stayed at this hotel each year, and sometimes twice a year, for some time.
Wonderful place and great staff. This year we noticed that the reduction in staff numbers does compromise the quality of the visit but it will not stop us returning next year.
"Twenty min walk to town. A few restaurants nearby."
At checking given first floor "garden view" room while reservation was made and paid for, more expensive, ocean view. Fortunately with one trip back to reception this was quickly corrected.
Internet ok in the lobby but no connectivity in the room.
Overall fair value for the price paid.

From the time we were met at the airport by the hotel transport until we left on the last day we were made to feel a valued guest. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The cleanliness of all the areas in the hotel inside and out were outstanding. The food choice every day was excellent and the surroundings of the restuarant with its sunny terrace round the pool gave a relaxing feel. The activities organisor was most helpful although the evening entertainment was not great.

From the moment we were collected from the airport by the hotel's owner Mr Bras, we were informed that our enjoyment was his priority. He lived up to this promise in every way. A spectacular hotel on top of a mountain surrounded by splendid scenery and walks. Two restaurants in the hotel which both served fantastic well priced meals. The chef (Paulo) in the grill even cooked special vegetarian meals for my partner which allowed me to eat at the grill more often. His skewered Portuguese sausagesa are to die for! The barman (Eduardo) invented the most wonderful cocktails. We have never stayed in a more welcoming hotel and there is not enough space here to review this hotel adequately. An excellent hotel run by an extemely professional team and managed by people who actually care about the 'guest'. Thank you

We stayed for two weeks beginning on the 5th September, 2014 and our expectations, based upon reviews from this and other review sites, were pleasingly surpassed. Our first member of staff, on reception, was to be our introduction to the first class service we received throughout our stay. Our evening meal, which was very good, was accompanied by absolutely excellent service. All of the staff were attentive, friendly and efficient. Together with the food and the magnificent view from our table on the rooftop terrace our evening proved to be a momentous occasion.
The hotel is approximately one and a half miles from the centre of Funchal and the majority of the bars and restaurants. However, the hotel did provide taxis both in the morning, afternoon and early evening so, the option to visit Funchal central, is catered for. In the event that all the taxis become fully booked, a regular bus service operates, with a stop within 100 yards of the hotel, throughout the day. If individual tickets are purchased on the bus, the cost is 1.95 Euros each way. I found this hotel to be in an excellent location in that it was near enough to town but sufficiently away from the busy centre to provide us with peace and quiet.
We chose to stay on a bed and breakfast basis because we like the independence of the time of eating together with choice of food but the hotel food we sampled was of good quality and well cooked.
Our superior room was located on the third floor and had a good sea view.
