“Cant wait to go back”
This hotel is in the hotel strip (along with several restaurants),it is avery comfortable hotel with easy access to Funchal town either by the courtsey bus from the hotel or on the local buses The staff are extremley friendly and helpful. The hotel is clean and decorated very simply, it doesnt have air conditioning but still does not get too hot. The hotel is ideally situated for access to all of the restaurants and the lido being within walking distance
“Highly recommended: we'll certainly be back again!”
Six years ago we stayed in the centre of Funchal, so we thought we were taking a gamble being a little further out. We needn't have worried: this hotel is only 20 mins walk down to Funchal - and about 30 mins back up. There are also plenty of regular buses which run late. We arrived via AeroBus (free to the hotel if you fly with TAP Portugal; 4 Euros otherwise). Our apartment was superb for 3*. It had a hotel-chain feel, but was very clean, modern and well-maintained. I believe all the apartments have the same design: a rectangle with the bathroom in one corner, with the balcony opposite. We were high up and had a fabulous view of Funchal. There was a small but well-equipped kitchen area, enough for making hot/cold snacks and drinks etc. Morning breakfasts were varied, filling and regularly stocked up. Our rooms were cleaned whatever time we left - which was quite handy as the bar in front of the hotel was open to 2am! Just down from the hotel were plenty of different kinds of restaurants and shops, though we tended to eat in the Old Town. Just up from this hotel were the other two which formed part of the complex. All three had their own facilities which were open to residents from all three Dorisol hotels. Having met other residents from the others, we think Buganvilia may have been the nicest; all three represented very good value for money though. We certainly had a great stay, were well looked after by friendly staff - and will definitely be going back!
“Great facilities, good location!”
The rooms were simple but had everything needed. Buffet breakfast was plentiful and there was a good selection. Staff were friendly. An added bonus was the use of the facilities of the other 2 hotels. The indoor pool complex proved invaluable on wet days. Need to be prepared to walk up hills - but this is true of all Madeira. A great hoilday.
“We keep going back!”
We have found the staff at this hotel couldn't do more to make your stay a relaxing and enjoyable one. We are returning customers, and we were given the exact room we wanted, and were welcomed back with a bottle of wine in our room - a lovely gesture! The location of the hotel is great, and the views fantastic. The facilities at this hotel are excellent for the price, the breakfasts are varied and filling and the cleaning service thorough and quiet (no banging about, urging you to to get up and out for those who like a leisurely morning!). A perfect base, in a unique part of the world!
“Good value for money”
The Buganvilia Hotel is one of three hotels built on an extremeley steep hill - steep even for Funchal! But it is the lowest of the three - a distinct advantage. The rooms have been newly refurbished and have 2 twin beds, and certainly on the higher floors a fairly good sea view from the balcony. The rooms have a small kitchenette with a full size fridge and microwave oven. The hotel's bedrooms are not airconditioned though, and we found our rooms very hot, 25 degrees at night, even with the balcony doors open. The hotel includes a continental breakfast with hot eggs and something else hot. One of the advantages of this hotel is that it is fairly quiet, if that is what you want: the other two hotels on the site providing evening entertainment. The facilities of all the hotels are availbale to all residents, including an indoor swimming pool. Another advantage of staying here is the free courtesy coach that goes into and back from Funchal centre about 6 times a day. There are also local buses. There is a good supermarket about 400 metres downhill - but this does mean that the treck back to the hotel with baskets of bottles and cans is a bit of a nightmare! But there is a small shop near the reception area in the hotel, where necessities of life like tonic water can be bought! All in all an excellent hotel for the price and I would certainly stay here again if I re-visited Madeira.
“Excellent Value”
A lovely hotel , everything worked and nothing was too much trouble. Friendly and efficient staff. Only wished the shuttle bus to town centre ran on sunday and public holidays.
“Great stay and very happy.”
Had a lovely stay in this hotel, very clean, comfortable room, quite spacious with a spotless bathroom and a nice little kitchenette. Not the height of luxury, no, but a great option for people on a lower budget. Staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was also good with plenty of choice and hot options every morning. Also in a very good location- 20 minutes walk into central Funchal though there is a regular courtesy bus, and just 5 minutes from the sea, supermarkets and lots of eating options. Overall very happy.
“Brilliant value hotel”
We really enjoyed our stay at the Dorisol Buganvilia hotel in Funchal. The room was spacious with comfortable beds and a useful kitchenette, and the facilities such as the swimming pools and the jacuzzi were great extras. There was also a charming little shop in the hotel selling quality souvenirs as well as drinks and snacks. It is less than 5 minutes walk from a large variety of restaurants including a great pizzeria and a delicious Japanese restaurant, as well as local cuisine. It is also within easy walking distance of Funchal city centre although there is a coach several times a day from the hotel if you prefer. I would highly recommend this hotel for both couples and families.
“Very good hotel”
The room was very spacious and had even a kitchenette. There was a balcony overlooking the swimming pool which was very pleasant. The hotel is very clean and has a great atmosphere, I would definitely go back there. The only low point was breakfast, a lot of choice but poor quality, especially considering food in Portugal is of a high standard.
“Good Value and Location”
Good sized room and a very useful little kitchen. Nice views from the 5th floor towards the botanical gardens. A bit 'plastic Eurotourist' but not depressingly so. Loads of good restaurants within 500 yards Japanese, Chinese, Portugese and Indian and most with take out. Fairly quiet except for people turfing glass into the recycling bins at odd hours which would have been considerably worse for those in rooms closer to them. Breakfast was good. The only thing we really disliked were the cheap foam pillows.
