No guarantee of room booked

Posted 18-Jan-2014
Pros: good cooking facilities, fridge, microwave, hob and equipment
Cons: Being given the room booked and not have considerable frustration at the start of a holiday.
We booked a sea view room, but was put in room 3 ground floor, next to car park and near Reception. No view and noisy, apparently only room available at the time. Following several visits to Reception we were moved to 7th floor on the next day. Very good room, no complaints. Speaking to two other couples in the hotel, who had booked through online booking company, they had had a similar experience. A ground floor room until they complained. So be aware that there may be problems at peak times.

Great for couples

Posted 04-Jul-2013
Pros: Hot tub, sauna, balcony, kitchenette, plunge pool and view.
Cons: Twin beds instead of double beds.
Location: Fantastic. 20 min walk to city centre and easily by bus.
Great hotel for couples. Room was exactly what we wanted and the spa facilities were great, including free use of hot tub, sauna and indoor and outdoor pools! Hotel staff were happy to help when asked and the hotel was an easy distance from Funchal centre, either by bus for €1.90 or a pleasant 20 minute walk. Balcony view of the sea was incredible as was the view of Funchal from the rooftop. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Great facilities, poor breakfast options.

Posted 08-May-2013
Pros: Facilities: Games room, indoor heated and outdoor pools, jaccuzi, gym.
Cons: Uncomfortable double bed, below average breakfast.
Location: Central enough to walk to the Centre of town and plenty of restaurants and tour companies in close proximity.
Overall this hotel is pretty decent for the price. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful, which is great. Unfortunately they dont really do double beds which we didnt know when we booked, so the bed we were given was uncomfortable and not very easy to sleep on. Also, the buffet breakfast they serve is really bad - we had it one morning and vowed not to again. The hotel facilities were great - indoor and outdoor pool, jacuzi, spa, gym and sauna and you had access to the facilities in the other 2 Dorisol hotels (3 in the same 'road') too so we made the most of the games room which was really fun.

Great stay and very happy.

Had a lovely stay in this hotel, very clean, comfortable room, quite spacious with a spotless bathroom and a nice little kitchenette. Not the height of luxury, no, but a great option for people on a lower budget. Staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was also good with plenty of choice and hot options every morning. Also in a very good location- 20 minutes walk into central Funchal though there is a regular courtesy bus, and just 5 minutes from the sea, supermarkets and lots of eating options. Overall very happy.

Basic 3*, If budget allows would upgrade

Good points - Regular Bus Shuttle to town, Location, Clean room Points for Improvement - (1) More comfortable beds, (2) No sharp sticking out corner of beds that you hit your legs on as you walk by (3) shower curtains so water doesn't end up all over the bathroom floor, the shower guard is ineffective (4) Breakfast was adequate, but nothing special. I was expecting much more nice fresh fruit. Juices were not nice. Next door is a another building site for another hotel I guess, Didn't disturb us but might if you are a light sleeper and want a lie in in the morning Taxi from airport was 38 Euros which was a bit much then we should have paid. recommend getting an airport transfor arranged which cost us 25Euros on the way back

Very good hotel

Posted 06-Jan-2011
The room was very spacious and had even a kitchenette. There was a balcony overlooking the swimming pool which was very pleasant. The hotel is very clean and has a great atmosphere, I would definitely go back there. The only low point was breakfast, a lot of choice but poor quality, especially considering food in Portugal is of a high standard.

Great facilities, good location!

Posted 09-Nov-2008
The rooms were simple but had everything needed. Buffet breakfast was plentiful and there was a good selection. Staff were friendly. An added bonus was the use of the facilities of the other 2 hotels. The indoor pool complex proved invaluable on wet days. Need to be prepared to walk up hills - but this is true of all Madeira. A great hoilday.

Good value for money

Posted 07-Oct-2008
The Buganvilia Hotel is one of three hotels built on an extremeley steep hill - steep even for Funchal! But it is the lowest of the three - a distinct advantage. The rooms have been newly refurbished and have 2 twin beds, and certainly on the higher floors a fairly good sea view from the balcony. The rooms have a small kitchenette with a full size fridge and microwave oven. The hotel's bedrooms are not airconditioned though, and we found our rooms very hot, 25 degrees at night, even with the balcony doors open. The hotel includes a continental breakfast with hot eggs and something else hot. One of the advantages of this hotel is that it is fairly quiet, if that is what you want: the other two hotels on the site providing evening entertainment. The facilities of all the hotels are availbale to all residents, including an indoor swimming pool. Another advantage of staying here is the free courtesy coach that goes into and back from Funchal centre about 6 times a day. There are also local buses. There is a good supermarket about 400 metres downhill - but this does mean that the treck back to the hotel with baskets of bottles and cans is a bit of a nightmare! But there is a small shop near the reception area in the hotel, where necessities of life like tonic water can be bought! All in all an excellent hotel for the price and I would certainly stay here again if I re-visited Madeira.

Cant wait to go back

This hotel is in the hotel strip (along with several restaurants),it is avery comfortable hotel with easy access to Funchal town either by the courtsey bus from the hotel or on the local buses The staff are extremley friendly and helpful. The hotel is clean and decorated very simply, it doesnt have air conditioning but still does not get too hot. The hotel is ideally situated for access to all of the restaurants and the lido being within walking distance
