“Returned to Dom Pedro Baia,Machico,Madeira”
We were given a room on the top floor(10th)sea and inland view over the town.A standard room without tea making facilities which we would normally expect but we wanted to keep costs down. The weather was a little cool so I would not reccomend January but we did get a couple of sunny days, cloud and yes a little rain.It is also not the best time for flowers but the botanical gardens were pretty good and seeing the tropical birds was a little bonus. The cable car in Funchal was very good.A bit like a slow low flight in a plane up the mountain. We only booked bed and breakfast which gave the flexibilty of trying other places.Breakfast was much the same every day but the choice was very good and as someone reccomended perhaps best to only go for a week. The evening meal was really good value as it included a carafe of house wine, red or white. We tried elsewhere and it just confirmed you could not match the price, the food, the service, and ambiance. They even put on free entertainment every night so if you have a drink after your meal you might as well be entertained without going to look for it.
“Madeira Great Stay”
The hotel was great, good customer service and perfect location. Machico is small but you may find everything you need nearby. The weather in February was stunning and we really enjoyed the swimming pool and the balconies. The service at the reception and restaurant was great, very friendly and efficient. Planning to go back ASAP. :-)
“Dont go by first impressions”
Your first view of the hotel as you arrive from the airport could be improved. Letters missing from the name and the need for a lick of paint don`t seem to get things off to a good start, but once inside the welcome is warm and the interior of the hotel nicely decorated. As you enter the lift and take the journey up to your floor, the rear wall is glass and gives great views across the bay. The rooms are comfortable and even ours at the back of the hotel had sea views, The breakfast buffet is more than ample , the evening meal buffet is good value with drinks included, though it can get a bit boring after three or four days. We were not on all inclusive and visited a number of local restaurants where the food quailty was high and prices reasonable. I would recommend Tourigalo out past the bus station. The hotel pool is a bit chilly on entry but not too cold for a good swim. Each evening there is different entertainment but they all seem to sing the same songs. But overall the experience was very good and I would return.
“Pleasantly surprised”
Very good hotel, better than we expected given some of the reviews we read (after booking the holiday!) Room very clean, lovely sea view. Staff helpful and friendly. Food good, particularly salad bar, but agree that after a week, monotany was beginning to set in. We were AI and had excellent value - I suspect purchasing drinks etc would have been expensive. Close to airport, but aircraft noise NOT a problem. Machico lovely quiet small town
“Peacefull break”
Hotel was clean and comfortable, would have liked air conditioning in our room. We were on B&B , there was a variety on offer including cereal, fresh fruit, cooked, cold meats and cheese etc. Dinner was very reasonable at a set price again with plenty of choice and included drink (carafe of wine) only complaint was no coffee after.
“Beautiful Location”
only one drawback with this hotel is there is no Air Conditioning in any main hall lounges or bedrooms so would be really hot
“not a bad hotel”
the breakfast is good as well as evening meal , staff nice, and rooms although basic were good. great shopping in the town centre and good bus service to funchal. overall nice stay pleasant beach as well as sea front.
