“Can't wait to go back”
Excellent hotel in every aspect. All the staff were very attentive, nothing was too much trouble and they were always very pleasant and polite giving first class service. The hotel certainly lives up to its 5* rating.

“A great break”
This is a first class hotel in a superb and convenient location. Standards and service were five star and though a large hotel did not feel overwhelming. Lots of excellent facilities. It’s about a 15-20 minute easy walk from the centre of Funchal. For those who are thinking of going don’t hesitate but we would suggest you book a room with a sea view. We will be going back.
“Free Birthday Cake ! (But don't forget your jacket or tie)”
Madeira is a little gem of an island! I took my wife their for her birthday and 3 days was no where near long enough. If you're looking for a party island then is defineltely not for you but if you appreciate visiting and looking at gardens and flowers during the day followed by top restuarants in the evening then this is the place for you. word of warning though - most nice restaurants won't let you in unless you are wearing a jacket and/or tie, I forgot mine but managed to sweet talk us in. The Cliff Bay Hotel is perfectly located on the edge of town just next door to the famous Reids hotel. It's a short walk to the centre of town (about 15 mins) or you can catch the free courtesy bus provided by the hotel. They have all the facilities you would expect of a 5 star along with the service including an on site michelen star restaurant (the only one on the small island). I booked us into to a sea view room which was lovely apart from the interconnecting door and some noisy neighbours. We asked to be moved and the receptionist and porter were extremely helpful showing us a couple of alternatives for us to chose from and promptly moved us with no fuss. As I said it was my wifes birthday and without any prompting from me on the day while we were out they put a free birthday cake in our room which perfectly with some champagne ! Lovely break and we will definetely be going back.
“Cliff Bay Funchal Madeira - good choice”
The Cliff Bay is one of those hotels where everything seems to run like clockwork, no noise, no fuss, just quiet efficiency. From the reception right through to us leaving the Staff were excellent. We were able to retain our room until midday which made it much more relaxing for our packing up. There were quite a few hotel organised events going on every day, but as we spent most days out and about on the island we did not attend any. The first night ( Thursday) was the only function we attended it was the managers cocktail evening, again superb, free nibbles and champagne. I would have no hesitation at staying at the Cliff hotel if we were to return to Madeira again. In fact we may probably to to mainland Portugal later this year and i will certainly look up the hotels chain for a sister hotel.
“Good quality hotel”
Nice hotel with all the services you would expect for a 5 star hotel. My only criticism would be the hotel's location out of the centre of Funchal, but taxi's were frequent and cheap.
“One to visit”
Travelled May2010 Cliff Bay Hotel is an excellent 5star hotel with 5star service, we had a 5night break booked the night before departure, we had good food along with quick polite service, rooms are clean and large with wonderful sea views, the spa facilities were excellent and the staff were friendly and the most helpful I have met, in all a great place to visit if you want to be spoilt and just relax
