“We will be back!”
We will definitely be going back, great location, great service, great room, great view, superb spa facilities, excellent breakfast, overall the hotel cannot be faulted. We were there end of November early December, great weather and NO crowds, so very relaxing. The hotel arranged champagne and a birthday cake as a surprise in the room, (we had not told them, but they picked it up from the registration, but still a sign of good service and a very nice and appreciated gesture). Would recommend highly, (or maybe not, as we wouldn't want it to get too busy for when we are there next")
“Great staff, great hotel”
This is a fabulous hotel with great facilities but what makes it brilliant is the staff. They are universally kind, thoughtful and willing to go out of their way to make your stay work well. All together very impressive and I will be recommending the hotel to everyone!
“Beautiful view, great room..”
This is a really nice hotel with great views... also has restaurants and other tours nearby. Loved the room! Only let downs were the renovations happening which stopped us from using some of the hotel's amenities which were stated. And also the breakfast is not the best... but still good. I would definetly stay there again though, had a great time!!
“Very good hotel”
A lovely hotel in a good location. The hotel is very clean with superb facilities. It is a vast site and this can give a slightly impersonal feel. The Bedrooms are all sea facing and of an excellent standard and you could not ask for better. My only comment which is slightly negative is that the evening buffet is very expensive for what it was. Overall a very good hotel.
“Pure luxury in a beautiful country!”
The CS is an excellent family (children 3+) hotel in a beautiful setting. The staff - from reception to housekeeping - are very friendly. We will definitely return!
“Fully recharged and relaxed”
We spent 5 days on Madeira, beginning with a 2 day scuba course. Recommend Will in the hotel diving centre; excellent teacher and was great with my 11-year-old daughter. Lovely hotel. Went there 10 years ago and just as cool and relaxed as I remembered it. Lovely terrace at sea level with direct access to the ocean. Remember to take your mask and snorkel - lots of sea life. Recommend the Marina Terrace and Jardim des Infante restaurants. Lovely service and food. Hotel food is OK, but restaurants are exceptional.
“Brilliant!!!”
Loved this hotel. It is perfect for families! Great staff at the kids club. Lots to do with the various swimming pools, table tennis, squash, tennis and kids club. Enough variety in food both at the hotel and outside. Staff at the restaurant were lovely with the kids including the chef who agreed to make spagetti bolognese for my son on two occasions when it wasn't on the menu or buffet table. Would definitely recommend it for a nice relaxing break!
“Mediocre”
This hotel ostensibly ticks all the right boxes, but just doesn't pull things off quite right....certainly not if your expecting a 5* experience. The staff, however, were excellent. Very accommodating, friendly, excellent with children. We were originally allocated a room with twin beds and a garden view, however, when I called to complain they responded very well and moved us to a room with a king bed and a glorious ocean view. The rooms are very nice, modern and clean, however, the bed was terribly uncomfortable. Quality of food...it wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't good either and if you aren't on the half board package it's completely overpriced. The pool....awful....the flooring is ridiculous, impossible to walk on with bare feet, our daughter cut her knee just kneeling on it! (although work was going on at one end of the very large area so this issue may be being resolved). No food or drink service, you had to go to bar to order yourself and they wouldn't even allow you to bring food to your lounger, you had to eat in restaurant. They said the pool was heated, but, my word, it was freezing. The hotel is well located, easy stroll to nice restaurants, shops etc. The architecture is very modern and the furnishings are stylish. But there's precious little in the way of atmosphere. The staff at the kid's club were very, very nice. But the room was rather uninspiring and there wasn't much in the way of activities. Still, my daughter enjoyed.
“It's nice but it's not 5 star”
I've just come back from a 5-night stay at the CS Madeira. It was a nice hotel, very clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. However, it is not a 5 star hotel. Reasons why it's not a 5 star? Well, it's the little things: the toiletries in the bathroom were not great; the hairdryer was useless; the mini bar had no alcohol; the coffee/tea was not restocked after it was used and there was no milk; the balcony furniture were 2, rather old looking, plastic chairs; there was no mirror at the table to dry your hair (if you took your own hairdryer) - the plug sockets were all in very unhelpful places; the breakfast buffet was well-stocked but the food wasn't great - definitely not 5 star hotel standard anyway (you can however get cava with breakfast, which is a nice touch). To get to the outside and inside pool was a trek through the hotel, through long corridors and up / down lifts. The pool area was a little dated with paint peeling off the walls. On the positive side, the hotel spa was lovely and the therapists were good. A very relaxing place to go and chill out. The location was quite good - a 20 min walk into town and there's some nice restaurants around. I went to Reid's Palace Hotel for afternoon tea - that really is a 5 star hotel and the difference is quite obvious. I wouldn't have a problem suggesting that someone stays at the CS Madeira, but if you do choose to stay, just be aware that you're staying at a 4-star (at best) hotel and not a 5!
“Best hotel I've stayed at for years”
This is a great hotel. I've stayed in hotels all over the world but for a holiday destination this takes some beating. Great food, always interesting and, although I only tried it once, anywhere thats offers you champagne for breakfast gets my vote! perfect view of the ocean and loads of facilities. We're going back for the same time next year - hopefully for longer than a week.
