“stellar hotel”

Excellent hotel with a very friendly and helpful staff. Nothing negative to say about this hotel except that its restaurant is a bit expensive but there are plenty of other reasonably priced restaurants nearby. The hotel also has a cafe serving light food which is reasonably priced. Will definitely return to this hotel.

“Extreme Comfort and Luxury within sight of China”

The Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16 is in a location away from the other major casinos and hotels. As far as I am concerned this is a point in favor of the hotel. Some people may think that the area surrounding the hotel is seedy and rundown but the area is quite safe. I walked through it late at night on two occasions and found no reason to be concerned. The Ponte 16 is located in the old dock area of the inner harbor of Macau and faces China. In the early morning, you can see small boats carrying women who sell flowers all over Macau sailing to Macau from China. Everything in this hotel is designed for the comfort of its guests. The staff could not be more knowledgeable or helpful from the moment you check in until the moment you leave. The rooms of this hotel are beautifully designed and co-ordinated. The beds are extremely comfortable. The toiletries provided by the hotel are first rate. Staff members go out of their way to make sure that your stay at the hotel is memorable. The hotel has all the comforts and amenities that one would expect from a deluxe hotel. The staff made my stay memorable and I cannot wait to return to Macau and the Sofitel at Ponte 16.

Area recommendations
While most people go to Macau to enjoy the casinos, I was interested in the colonial buildings and older buildings of the city. I particularly recommend the Museum of Macau built into the Monte fortress adjacent to the ruins of Saint Paul's. The Museum provides the visitor with an excellent sense of the development of Macau. Furthermore, most of the exhibits also have English explanations along with Chinese and Portuguese. From the ramparts of the fortress, you can get some stunning views of the harbour and the city at dusk. Nothing is that far away in Macau and I would recommend some aimless wandering in the streets in order to see the fusion of Portuguese and Chinese cultures that exist in Macau.

“Great hotel!”

The Sofitel Ponte 16 was a beautiful hotel. The staff in all parts of the hotel (concierge, check-in, pool etc) were fantastic and extremely friendly. It was my friend's birthday and they gave her a cake and let us use the business lounge to have some drinks. the hotel was beautiful with a nice view of the river and the king size beds were extremely comfortable. i would love to have stayed longer!

“Old style hotel”

The Sofitel Macau is an old style hotel that needs some updating. My room did not have hot water and I had to call maintenance twice before I could take a hot shower. The location is a bit away from the rest of casinos, but still walking distance through a very charismatic neighborhood. For the price paid, the newer hotels in the strip would make more sense.

Area recommendations
The downtown area where the bulk of casinos are located, or Cotai.

“The Best Hotel I Ever Stay at”

We had a great stay, if I ever go back to Macau I'll stay at the Sofitel again without question. The hotel staff was most helpful, they gave us a map, a card with tourist place listed on it and wrote stuff down for us so we didn't have a problem with the taxi drivers. The hotel staff made the trip great for me and my husband on our 25th wedding anniversary. The rooms were very clean and we got prompt service from the staff. The security at the hotel was first rate, you need a room key to activate the elevators, You have a phone by the toilet, shower, tub, and two more phones in the room, really give you a piece of mind especially if you have a medical problem.

Area recommendations
The Ruins of St. Paul a church built in 1602 and destoryed by fire in 1835 and the Section of the Old City Walls, great view of the city and old military cannons, plus you have Museum of Sacred Art all in the same area. If you a fan of Micheal Jackson, you must visist the MJ Cafe located in the Sofitel Hotel you can see Micheal Jackson's memorabilia free of charge. If you purchase something there they'll give you access to their wi-fi, if your room doesn't come with wi-fi the hotel charges for this service 55 mop hour. So MJ Cafe is great if you staying at that hotel, their wi-fi reaches the lobby with no problem. A visit to the Fisherman's Wharf is okay to visit, but I was think of Fisherman's Wharf San Fransico, which it's nothing like it, so you might be disappointed. Grand Lisboa Hotel and Casio has a great display of jade statues and figurines and of course it's free. If you like Video Poker to satisfy your gambling bug you might be disappointed, because Macau not big on that type of gambling, but the Sofitel has 3 or 4; 5 cent machines and the Grand Lisboa has a few but there are a 20 cent machines. The ones at Sofitel you select the type of video poker you want to play; Jacks or Better, Wild, Bonus and etc., plus coffee, tea and light sandwiches are complimentary.
Shopping
We went to the Red Market on Sunday and found a lot of bargains, a lot shops display their products on the street, but when went back on Monday to finish some shopping it was a different type of place, the shop weren't displaying in the street and the atmosphere just wasn't the same so you might want to ask what day of the week is best to go there, Sunday it's good time for sure.

“Great rooms and facilities at a so-so neighborhood”

Initially I was disappointed at the surrounding area, and later found out that the location is indeed away from the center of the casino area in Macau Peninsula. However, the rooms and facilities, as well as the water view, more than made up for the location deficiency. And the room rate was very competitive. I think this is one of the best value for your hotel money in Macau, all things considered.

Area recommendations
If you're there for gambling as most are, probably go for the area where Grand Lisboa is. If you're there for business meetings, consider Sofitel's off the beaten path location, or even Cotai Strip, for its less hectic feel.

“Superb experience”

My wife and I were upgraded--perhaps because I'd mentioned in my notes that it was a late honeymoon for us. Either way, though, our room was outstanding. Comfortable, spacious, modern. Service was terrific all around--when I needed an extra LAN cable, it arrived in minutes. Our experience was far better than one would expect for a hotel in this price range. It was a great trip, and Ponte 16 was a big part of it.

“Sofitel Macau is good hotel in great location”

This was our second stay at the hotel, and both times we were very satisfied. We choose it for the location, it is walking distance to many of the major sites and restaurants we want to visit in Macau. Since getting a taxi in Macau has become very difficult in recent years, the location is one of the main reasons we choose the Sofitel. The rooms are very nice, the beds are incredibly comfortable and the toiletries are L'Occitane, a great brand. The hotel charges extra for a river view room but the river is murky is the view is mainly ugly buildings in Shenzhen. I request a city view room on a high floor, which has a great view down into old Macau. The city is like a tapestry on the wall, and that is much more interesting view. I'm always shocked it's the cheaper option of the two views. The only downside is the pool is small and unheated so it's not usable most of the year. But the gym and sauna are great.

Area recommendations
We go to Macau quite often, and not for the casinos (we don't gamble). The restaurants and cheap Portuguese wine are a big attraction. But we also like walking around Macau's old neighborhoods, behind the ruins of St. Paul's cathedral. Few tourists are found on these streets but the architecture is gorgeous in the old Portuguese historical areas. It is also worthwhile to visit Coloane, one of the islands, at the far end of the Cotai strip. A good starting point is Coloane Village, home of Lord Stowe's bakery, which is famous for its egg tarts. The village has some decent restaurants and old world charm. It feels almost like being in Portugal, rather than the middle of Asia.

Nice hotel, beautiful water front view on the ocean side. Nicely detailed material and bathroom layout. Courteous and helpful staff.
