In the main, it's all about the people who run the hotel and the Village in has the friendliest of staff... nothing was too much trouble. Rooms were clean, bed linen was fresh and the facilities were all that were needed for our stay... Breakfast was "when we wanted it" or we could have opted to turn it into lunch.... Check out was, yes, you've guessed it... when we want. All this at a very reasonable rate.... Highly recommended....
We were charmed by the setting and the hotel generally. The lay-out is quirky with some non-standard stairs, but the views and the in-room facilities were excellent. The hotel staff were most helpful - although we were surprised that they did not seem to be aware of our preferred accommodation when we arrived. However, this was soon solved. We rarely take dinner in our hotel but this time we ate in on both evenings and were most impressed by the food and service.

First of all, the staff were excellent! As soon as I checked in, I was offered a nice pot of tea and biscuit in the patio by the river. Because the signal in the village was not very good, the owner let me use the landline to call my family. After I checked out, they let me leave my case in my room as nobody was using the room that night. Secondly, very nice location: by the river, which you can walk along to Watersmeet, a few mins walk from the bus stop, and 5mins from the high street. Also, they gave me a lovely free gift: complimentary toiletries and clotted cream fudge!!!
My partner and I had a brilliant 4 day stay at the Captains House. Lynmouth. It was very peaceful and relaxing. The bedroom was neat and tidy and we both slept well. The owners are a lovely couple, very cheerful and informative about the area. Easy parking and beautiful views all around. Lynmouth village 5 minute walk over a beautiful stream that goes all the way to the sea. Plenty to see and do, beautiful shops, harbour, public houses and cafe's and walks. Lynton just up the hill with lovely views over the bay. We met some lovely people in Lynmouth and Lynton and will hopefully be returning next year.
