“Best location”
Cozy hotel, friendly service. Hotel would gain to make little things such as good hair dryenrs and nice fluffy towels. Not complicated to do and would add to comfort. Old hotel but i liked the signature of it. Rooms are comfortable.
“Not impressed”
The location of the hotel is good if you plan to stay in the city of Luxembourg only and walk around. Parking and internet must be purchased separately and are very expensive, and the hassle and extra expense are a deterrent to stay at this hotel.
“Give this one a miss”
Now before I give you my review of this hotel, I have to confess that this hotel came at the end of a tour around various European cities, whereupon I stayed in 5 star hotels throughout. I was looking forward to finishing the tour in Luxembourg as it is a favorite city of mine and have stayed there several times before. This was a hotel that I booked myself and chose it for the location. I knew it would not be the quality of my other hotels but I thought since it is a 4 star, it should be of a reasonable quality. My room was so shabby and rundown looking that I felt I was in a creepy fleabag. I don't mind "period" furnishings but there is a difference between period and seriously dated. The bed sagged as did the chair and the bathroom was circa 1950. The room was very clean and the service was very good, but the carpet was very very old and worn and it was a place that I could not wait to leave!!!
“Carbat”
The worst room I ever had. Disco on one side, main street on the other one, the hotel is in the center of the city, that's good, but the rest is awful. A women was claiming loud in the lobby that the Internet access was not working, so I did not try the access. The room had a view on a tiny internal court of 3x3 m where all other bathroom look. There were no formula to get a breakfast in the room on the second day. The extra charge for the breakfast in the room got a 5% surcharge at the check-out. Hotel of the 60s with a price of the 00s, no fun! Very disappointing for a place like Luxemburg.
“Needs a serious renovation”
Hotel was old, needs updating. Great location. Room was less than substandard. Carpet was old, dirty, splitting. Furniture was battered and paint chipped everywhere. Bedspread looked as if it had not been washed in years. No air conditioning. Staff did not help in securing another hotel and wouldn't give us a refund without Expedia's help. Thank you Expedia.
“Glad I'd Only Booked 1 Night”
The hotel is highly overrated...and overpriced. The front desk staff were curt at best. I am not a fussy traveler - a room is a place to sleep while I enjoy the city. This room, however, was extremely hot, window opened on an airshaft with no ventilation whatsoever. The bed was very uncomfortable. The bathroom was adequate and the location is great. SUggest travelers try to find another hotel in the same area.
“50/50”
+ Location is the best ever in Luxembourg, rooms are clean, breakfast is tasty. Personnel is accurate, polite and and obliging. - My room was without a window (inconvinient), No air conditioning, so it is very hot and no fresh air. Furniture and bathroom facilities (sanitaryware) are old. For me that was not a problem but it should be mentioned. After midnight it's impossible to order a tea or coffee, and there is no coffee-mashine availabe in the hotel after bar is closed. On a oposit side of the building there is a night-club, It can be very noisy in a room if there is a party.T
“Needs updating”
We booked a weekend break in Le Grand Hotel Cravat based on its location - it is in the heart of the city centre and some of the rooms have good views. However the rooms are not up to the same standard. I refused the first two rooms I was shown. One was dated, tending to shabby. The other was smoking. The third room was big and bright, however it had no air conditioning and because we were by the main road it was noisy. The room however was clean. Considering it is a four star hotel, I was disappointed to have to pay extra to get a room I was willing to sleep in.
“Would use it again”
Good location
“Great hotel - but be careful, can be noisy”
I found this hotel a welcome break from the usual chain hotels, a huge retro feel with well-maintained classic fittings, possibly original. So well-established that the US General MacArthur stayed here as well some Apollo astronauts and Prime Minister Wilson from the UK. A lot of nice little touches and surprises which I won't give away, and within 5 minutes walk to all the city bus routes, including the Ligne 16 airport link (a snip at 1.50 Euros). The staff were very helpful, especially the really nice chap who worked as a night receptionist during my stay (17/3-20/3). Some of the top hotels in London could be doing with staff as charming as this lad. There was one major let-down, however. I stayed in room 209 and this room did not have an outside view. This was not bad in itself, but it is located quite close to the local techno club and the volume of the music (Wednesday and Friday) prevented sleep on an important business trip before 1am. Despite the best efforts of the night receptionist, the club refused to turn the volume down. I later discovered the club is owned by a Luxembourgish government minister, so one expects that the police turned a blind eye to this club, despite the local curb on evening noise pollution. Still highly recommended, but choose your room carefully, you will be able to tell if this will be a problem by 10pm.
