“Awesome time”
We really enjoyed our stay at Skyland Resort. We brought our dog and our 14 month old daughter and the room had plenty of space for all of us. The rooms were clean and had all the necessary amenities. We really liked the fact that they had a playground and a restaurant (with a great view) close to the room. The food was very good and the staff friendly and helpful. Overall a great hotel!
“Overpriced and outdated”
What a disappointment! We read other reviews and didn't expect a modern, slick room but we also didn't expect a run down place that looked like the 1950's, and obviously has had no maintenance since. To call this "rustic" is like calling a train wreck an unfortunate experience. We did expect a lodge type facility, but this is a string of 1950's style motel buildings. There are no rooms in the main building. The front desk staff seems to run on autopilot with no personality or waemth. I must admit the view, however, is spectacular overlooking the Shenadoah Valley from about 3400 feet. The food is the resturant was also very good. All in all this place is an embaresment to our National Park System. Leave the park and stay in Luray, VA at one of the many chain motels available - all of which cost less money>
“A unique picturesque experience”
The Skyland Resort was a unique, memorable stop along the Skyline Drive. Rooms are in little blocks of wooden construction, giving an atmosphere of staying in a wooden lodge. Room was very spacious, the bed one of the most comfortable I've slept in, the cleanliness spotless. The rooms have large windows and ours had an inspiring view right out over the Valley. There's a short walk through the trees to the restaurant/office area - take a torch if you're giving there to eat in the evening! Catering in the restaurant was excellent. If you need a stop-off while driving in the area, do stay. Don't consider going off the Drive to neighbouring towns. Skyland is beautiful.
“Dated but impressive!”
Fantastic site on the Skyline Drive. Hotel is a series of accommodation blocks. OK, but showing signs of wear. Badly in need of renovation. Never the less, well worth visiting.
“Rustic but comfortable.”
Lovely spot to stay while enjoying the Blue Ridge Skyway though we were unfortunate with the weather and only saw the views on the evening we arrived and the morning we left! Comfortable accommodation (no TV !!) and friendly staff. Food was good but not great. We had a room in the block next to the dining area but some rooms involved a walk to get there.
“good retreat for families of all ages.”
this is an ideal vacation spot for families of all ages.
“Tired dirty rooms shame on Aramark”
Location great rooms very tired and somewhat dirty Poorly maintained. Vendor cut corners on everything Could be great. NPS needs to get rid of the provider running this marginal operation
“Beautiful location!”
My daughter and I stayed at Skyland while visiting Luray. We absolutely loved the place! When we arrived at our room, we went straight to the balcony and found a deer eating grass in front of our room. Also got to see a bob cat, skunk and another deer on the property. The rooms were dated and rustic, but it gave the room a cabin-like feel. We had a great view of the mountains and valley below. The dispenser in the shower was out of conditioner and body wash, but we had packed our own so it was no problem. The room was clean and the temp was great once we opened the windows. I'm planning on going back this fall with the husband for our anniversary. Can't wait to see the mountains in full color!
“Great hotel and location for what we were doing during the vacation”
Enjoyable stay, lovely scenic area with beautiful views in all directions. Staff were friendly. The menu especially for breakfast could have been slightly varied, most hot dishes contained eggs, not good if allergic! We would return and recommend to others though.
“exactly what I expected”
went to the mountains to enjoy the drive through skyline drive and enjoy the fall colors and enjoyed every bit of it.
