“Very nice place, central. Would go back if in the area.”

Stephanie on the desk was very nice and spoke good english. Very short ride from the train. Arrived early but could check the baggage while we familiarized ourselves with the city. We booked a larger room to be sure we had good space and got one of the wonderful brochure rooms with a sitting area overlooking the Danube. The breakfast had everything you could want including smoked salmon. Note however that there is a charge of 7 euroes per person. It was not very clear in the expedia website and I guess I should have looked a lot closer. If I had known I would have gone out one of the mornings.

Area recommendations
Small City so the neighborhood of the hotel is perfect.
Getting around
For sure you need to walk to enjoy this small city.
Must see
Check when and if there is an organ recital at St. Stephens. Very enjoyable. Walking around the waterways day or night after dinner was very pleasant. You can take a bus up to the fortress overlooking the city but there isn't really anything to see of the fort itself. You can walk some trails and do get a panoramic view of the city and rivers. I believe you can also drive up there as I did see parked cars.
Dining
We went to a place called Heil-Geist-Stiftskeller for dinner both nights we were in Passau. We were told you don't need a reservation but if you want to be sure of a seat in this very popular restaurant, you need a reservation. The first night we were seated at a community table with a German couple which turned out to be a very enjoyable experience spending the evening with them. This restaurant was outstanding and relatively inexpensive. We had food like lamb hip, roast crackling pig, crepes flambe with apricot jam, etc. On a nice day, walking along the river front and stopping at a biergarten is an enjoyable experience.

“Nice hotel”

Stayed there just one night. Hotel is well located, clean and quiet. Room is little bit small. Really enjoyed breakfast, not expensive, wide selection of food and drinks. Parking is pretty far from the hotel, expect 10 or 15 minutes walk. Hotel seems to be little understaffed, they are friendly and helpful, but waiting sometimes takes too long.
