“Fantastic atmosphere”
A wonderful art deco monument, not at all Disneyfied or ruined. I can't recommend it too highly. Sure, it's slightly tatty, but in a really good way.
“An amazing experience, sleeping in a 1st Class State Room! Like walking back in time”
Staying in a room that hadn't been redecorated was awesome and it was just like stepping back in time from the wonderfully wierd airconditioning vents to the strange taps in the bathroom. Our room card even gave us access to all public areas on the boat
“What an experience”
What more can I say, to stay on Queen Mary was a unique experience, we were luck it was out of season, the boat was very quiet so we walked around with no problems, the room was very comfortable, the bed was so much so that we slept for 10 hours after our flight, the position was not good if you wanted to be in the thick of things but suited out requirements perfectly
“Old Fashoined Luxury”
We had a wonderful stay, the stateroom was elegant and comfortable. The staff were helpful, polite and freindly. In fact, we arrived a day early and the Front Desk Supervisor went out of his way to get us a good rate for the extra day. The only slight down side to staying on the Queen Mary is that it is quite a way out of LA city, but there are beautiful places closer to it. If we were to visit that part of the US again, we would definitly stay there again.
“Life as it should be”
A gem of art deco that should be experienced.A well restored example of how cruising the North Atlantic was to enjoyed
“One of the best Hotel Experiences I have had”
This is, without a doubt, one of the best hotel experiences I have had. I stayed because of an Expedia deal and had never heard of the Queen Mary before. Once aboard, it was like entering a different world. I have a thing for Art Deco style and immediately fell in love with the boat's decor. The bed in our room was unbelievably comfortable. The way they had kept the original fittings was also great. In our bathroom we had options for hot and cold fresh water and hot or cold salt water. The corridors outside the room stretched from one end of the boat to the other and bent in the middle they were so long. The bar and shop area was also beautiful. It is a little difficult if you do not have some form of transportation however. The ship is on the other side of the water from downtown Long Beach and you cannot walk it.
“yester year accomodation”
Decaying splendor 3*, huge cabin good value having 2 queen sized beds. Bar area etc art deco. food in the Winston restuarant was exelent. 5*, Television Poor.
“Yesterday's luxury”
Although some people complained of lack of modern amenities, I believe they missed the historical significance. One can stay in better surroundings, but without the history that the Queen Mary offers. It should not be seen as a normal hotel but rather as part of History. The only criticism i would make is that not enough of the history is made use of for visitors. An area should be set aside for visitors to experience its total history including film footage. We were extremely pleased with our stay and have already recommended it to many of our friends.
“Need to improve the welcome.”
The hotel is a real art deco gem. It is looking its age, but who wouldn't after 80 years afloat? I think thi sis part of its charm. The hotel though was really let down by its front office staff. The concierge could not answer basic questions on local transport links - he did not even know the name of the nearest metro station, from which there is a direct free shuttle bus connection. The receptionist at check in treated me as a potential villain rather than as a welcome guest. Luckily the restaurant staff were much better, although I would advise that if they do not know the answer to a question they should seek advice rather than guessing and coming out with answers which were plainly ridiculous.
“We will not return here.”
We stayed in this hotel about 15 years ago with friends and enjoyed the experience so much that we decided to repeat the trip. We tried for two days to take the organised tour of the old liner but the staff were unable to give advance details of timings for the tour. The ventilation system in the cabins kept us awake most of the night, even though we asked for it to be switched off. Staff were not very helpful - we will not be returning to the Queen Mary Hotel.
