“Let down by service”

Breakfast was problem because some of staff had very poor English which was unacceptable in a country where the national language is,after all,English. The day before we left we did not have our room cleaned and when we discovered this in evening and reported it there was no apology. Admittedly it was cleaned within the hour. Apart from patchy service I was quite happy with the hotel though the lay out of the car park is very confusing

“Ok hotel.”

We got a good deal on the room. They gave us probably the worst room in the hotel, room 124 beware. Up against the back door entrance so we got plenty of noise all night long. Wasn't the worst place i've stayed but definitely wasn't the best.

“Sad and shabby”

I grew up in the valley and always remembered the Sportsmen's Lodge as being pretty swanky. Unfortunately those days are long past, especially in terms of the rooms themselves. The lobby is pleasant enough, and the pool is large with plenty of seating in the shade for those needing a respite from the high valley temps. The tower, though, was just terrible. Worn carpets throughout, old furniture, overly perfumed hallways, uncomfortable beds. The mini-fridge didn't work and we had to cross the hotel and go down three floors to find ice. The 21 inch tube television in the room was collecting dust and there was a large pile of room service debris outside our door which remained from the time we arrived until the evening of our second day. On the upside, there were weddings on both nights we were there, but they were kind enough to stop the parties at 11pm straight up. I can't speak for the banquet facilities, but our room was nothing short of sad. Too expensive for what it was, to be sure. Stay for the location if you must (that's why we stayed there). Otherwise I'd look for something better.

“Great time”

We had an excellent time. The kids had a great time at the heated pool. Poolside cabana bar was great. The staff was the most courteous hotel staff we've had. We will definitely go back and recommend this hotel to others. There was a grocery store right across the street and plenty of restaurants all around. The restaurant at the hotel was nice as well and served a great breakfast.

Area recommendations

We went to Universal Studios which was great. We took a drive through Hollywood Blvd. and Beverly Hills. We drove down to Venice Beach for the day which was only about a half hour away.

“Sportsmens is pretty awesome”

Great value and good location for movie studio visits. Hotel showing it's age, and in desperate need of refurbishment - but the rooms themselves are perfectly comfortable and clean. Free wifi a bonus - though the charges to use that awesome swimming pool sucks.

“Fun, charming-a clean hotel with loads of personality!”

Spent several very enjoyable days at the Sportsman's Lodge. This place has plenty of character-a vintage 70's decor lounge, big beautiful pool, charming diner full of movie star photos and good food as well. The staff were all great and we had a really nice view from a top floor room overlooking the pool. Fixtures were a bit worn but very comfortable and clean. Nice neighborhood too-tons of great places to eat and shop and close to the highway. All in all a great value-we loved it here and plan to go back next time we're in the area.
