“Strange place”

This hotel provides free shuttle from the airport. However, when I arrived, I was told there were no free shuttles and that I had to book one in advance. So took a taxi instead. They did manage to provide a shuttle to the airport the next day, but the overall impression was spoiled.

“Good location for a reasonable price”

Just down the beach from venice beach but accommodation was not as expensive. This hotel was a nice relaxing spot to go with the kids after some full on days at Disneyland. Downside was the hotel was a bit noisy.

“Good Value for Money”

The foghorn is not bad but maybe a re-decoration would help, the room was clean but the heave curtains make it too dark a white thin underquote would do the trick also the bad linen should be re-considered. Regarding the Breakfast that is a big issue and should be resolved, it is unhealthy, poor of options and does not justice to the hotel.

“Mothers Beach”

Very charming place with 1970s decor. Everything was cheap and dated but the rooms are large and right on the only beach at Marina Del Rey. It felt like I was staying at Grandma's house. Two floors. No elevator. Complimentary breakfast.

“Noise could be a problem”

We stayed here for 4 nights in clean, good size.room with a patio. There is a good view of the marina from your room. This is a pleasant place to stay, the staff were very helpful. & there is a good breakfast. We also used their free shuttle to & from the airport. Noise could be a problem, you can hear people moving about, closing doors & talking from the unit above. The ground floor rooms are down stairs from reception. There is no lift & it hard carrying your luggage up & down the stairs. We would stay here again but only in the top floor rooms.

“Good Hotel”

We stayed at the Foghorn Harbour Inn the week of September 19, 2011. It's a small, well maintained Hotel in a good location with many positive features. We had a rental car and really liked the free parking right by the main entrance. It was easy to get to, on a road without a lot of traffic and centrally located close to the airport. They provided free shuttle service to and from the airport. Our room was big with a king sized bed that was comfortable, the TV worked well, as did the shower. We had a room that overlooked a beach and the marina. There were good restaurants and Venice Beach within walking distance. Also a good little shop that rented bikes for reasonable rates was close by. The Foghorn provides guests with free use of a computer with good internet connection. We both enjoyed the free continental breakfasts they provided. The staff was friendly and helpful when we had questions. It's not a five star hotel but I would recommend it to family and friends if they where looking for a very good, reasonable priced place to stay.

Area recommendations
Marina Del Rey is a good central location in Los Angeles. It's close to the airport, close to a number of interesting beaches, convenient location if you are going to do a short cruise and seems like a safe place to walk around in.
Dining
We found a number of good places to eat within walking distance of Marina Del Rey. Our favorite burger joint was Islands Fine Burgers on Washington Blvd, just a couple of blocks from Venice Beach. Right accross the street was the best restaurant we went to on our holidays in LA, San Diego and Toronto. It was an Italian restraurant called, the Pasta Factory. The food and service was exceptional and the price more than reasonable.
Outdoors or beach
Venice Beach and Santa Monica beaches were large with nice sand. The boardwalk at Venice was strange to say the least. We were expecting street performers and body builders. Instead we saw mostly homeless people sleeping on the grass or trying to get money from you with such stupid things as "kick me in the butt for a dollar"....didn't see anyone take them up on that!. The best way to see the beachs is to rent a bike and ride the cycling trail...you can go all the way from Marina del Rey to past Santa Monica Pier. I'm 65 and was still able to do it, so it's not difficult. The best place to rent a bike is at Spokes N Stuff at the International Hotel in Marina Del Rey, not right on Venice beach because that would be more expensive. The canals in the Venice Beach area are a nice place for a walk during the day.

“Ideal for Airport and Beach”

I can't believe I've not found this little gem previously. Nicely situatted on Marina beach and close to Venice Beach and LAX, what's not to like? I had an upstairs room with balcony onerlooking the Marina and beach and I don't think I'd be happy with a lower floor room or a room facing the other way. Based on what we had I was delighted - comfortable bed, fridge and microwave and nice thick towels. Breakfast was more than adequate . Would definitely use again, and probaly for more than one night next time.

“Great Stay”

The hotel was clean and tidy, with pleasant rooms overlooking the marina. Room had a large patio, nice furnishings as well as a DVD player with a good supply of movies upstairs. Convenient location for Venice and a short walk to the ocean (the sandy marina was right outside. Staff were friendly and helpful. Great stay, highly recommended.

“Comfortable Hotel”

I stopped in the Foghorn Hotel for a few nights, the staff are friendly, each bedroom has free wi-fi in, a fridge, microwave and flat screen TV with DVD player, there are a large selection of DVDs that can be borrowed from reception. In the reception there is free tea / coffee / water and a PC for internet and printing. There is a free shuttle service to the airport (LAX).

Area recommendations
the Hotel is on the beach at Marina Del Rey, 10 minutes walk away is the start of Venice beach, where there are several bars and restaurants, and also bike hire to cycle along the bike path that follows the coast for about 22 miles, the ride upto Santa Monica (about 4 miles) is worth doing.

“A pleasant surprise.”

We basically stayed in Marina Del Rey on the last night of our vacation because of its closeness to the airport, and I wasn't expecting much. But it turned out to be a great location with the marina and beach right in front of our patio. It's just a short convenient drive to Venice Beach and Santa Monica's 3rd Street Promenade. The hotel itself appears to be a little old, but it's well maintained. Not luxurious by any stretch, but they don't pretend to be and they provide everything you would need. Just one beef - the pillows suck. I'd definitely stay here again. It's easy to find, and gettting to the car rental return was a breeze.
