Won't go back

Posted 30-Nov-2011
My main disastisfaction is that I booked a double room (room with one double bed, that sleeps 2) because I was on vacation with my husband. When we show up, they tell us that they no longer have double rooms available, but they'll give us a room with two twin beds. They have more rooms available with king and queen beds, but we'd have to pay a lot more for them. Shouldn't we be upgraded for free or at least a discounted price, when it was their problem that they overbooked the type of room that we had prepaid and booked? Besides the lobby, everything else just felt old and outdated.

Hotel Thistle City Barbican London

Posted 03-Jan-2011
We had a pleasant stay in this hotel, which is a little bit outside the city center, but good to reach by tube. The area was a little dull, with not many restaurants or bars, so don't try to find a nice restaurant near the hotel. The room was large and comfortable, with old and ugly furniture, but we did not care much about that. Staff was friendly. Breakfast was good, but overpriced at 10,99. Overall a nice place to stay, but expect nothing special.

Thistle City Barbican - cracked lavatory

Posted 13-Dec-2010 on Hotels.com
It's actually quite a long walk from Barbican underground station and taxis are not always easy to find. The room was quite clean but the bathroom was revolting - the toilet bowl had a big crack in it, full of dirt, and although it had been tiled relatively recently the metal fittings and taps were old and rusty. The tissue box was empty. The room was freezing when I arrived and the radiator valve tap was missing so I had to call maintenance (who arrived very quickly). Of course the room got too hot later on and it was impossible to turn it down. There was at all times that I passed through reception a very long queue to check in and check out.
