“Not Impressed”

Great location just off High Street Kensington. Hotel currently being renovated. Rooms small and badly in need of an upgrade. Bathroom small with poor quality utensils. Bed is only average and the room was quite cold. The TV has very limited TV program selection. I could not get WIFI in the room even though this is supposed to be available.

“Okay”

Service is okay. The ongoing renovations make it difficult during early morning and the day. They only have Wifi Internet service and it's CRAP!!! So if you badly need internet like i do during my business trip, then this place is not for you. The location is good and convenient.

Once the construction is done it will be a nice hotel. Spa is pretty good also.

“Tale of the Missing Lion and Inquisitive Workman”

Have stayed there before and it generally represents decent value if you book via the internet. They have now done away with what was the best asset to the weekday business traveller which was the Lion Sports Bar, which had multiple TV screens showing sport. It has now been replaced by a a rather sterile looking hotel bar. The hotel customers that the Lion Bar used to attract now go next door to the Copthorne Tara, which does show sport. Only downside to my visit was the scaffolding outside the bedroom window. I wasn't pleased that a workman walking along it made a point of stopping and then cupping his hands to the window so he could peer more closely into the room. I'm not shy myself but I would imagine it would be distressing to a female traveller. I work in construction myself and this is not acceptable behaviour. Sort it out please hotel management !

“Not impressed”

The fact there was no wi fi at various times is not acceptable in a 4star hotel. Drilling is not pleasant in the middle of the afternoon when trying to rest. Maintenance has to be done very discreetly or the hotel should be closed. Also, since the hotel is in the middle of London, England, the english should be perfect on all forms at all times!

“Building site. Find another hotel...”

I was not informed that there was major building and refurbishment work in process - the place was a building site. Dust, noise, painting... There was obscene graffiti on the wallpaper by the hotel lifts. The room was supposed to be double, but was tiny. Television was BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, Channel4, Channel5 only. All with terrible reception and almost unwatchable due to ghost images. Expedia showed this as 4* hotel - I think they must have confused it with somewhere else.

“Go Somewhere Else!!”

I'm not usually a fussy traveler, but there should be some basic level of customer service that you should expect at a 4star hotel. Bring your own shampoo, conditioner and soap. The soap is paper thin and not at all appealing. Bring kleenix, as none is provided. There is NO wifi in the hotel, even if they tell you there is. There are not enough electric outlets, so bring an extension cord. And, the WORST thing is, the hotel is undergoing renovations so unless they pay you to come and stay....STAY AWAY. It is NOISY from early in the morning till late at night. None of the hotel staff speak English. Most of them are from Russia and THEY ARE RUDE, even when you are trying hard to be nice. The only thing going on for this hotel, is the hotel next door, or the fact that it is within walking distance, (About 2 blks,) from High Street shopping. I would NEVER recommend it, and will not go back. And this hotel doesn't have a Business Office, so it's not for the business traveler. Stay at the hotel next door.

Area recommendations
Stay in the Kensignton area. Very safe, nice shopping and great restaurants.

“a bit of major construction with huge cranes on top of the building”

while construction is going you might want to stay else where. We were prepared with ear plugs, sound machine. Free internet was down 1st day due to system problems, but up then next and continued the rest of our stay. Staff pleasant and clean hotel. A good deal price wise, and that probably was due to the construction. A block from the Tube Sta and great area.

“some problems”

The staff was wonderful, the location excellent for my purposes, and the rooms were very very clean. But, it was clearly a tourist hotel (I know, I am a tourist), but with too many tour busses. That tends to make the lobby and teh elevators difficult to negotiate. The rooms were spartan. The TV's were antiquated. The bathrooms tiny, the shower sad. The hotel is undergoing a remodel, and construction commenced at 8am, and lasted all day. Hallways were swathed in plastic. As in most of London, there were no accomodations for handicapped individuals, people with mobility issues. Fortunately, I am an early riser, and I didn't cross the Atlantic to watch tv. But it was not "luxurious", by any means. I have experienced more luxury in inexpensive domestic hotel chains. I would have accepted these inconveniences more graciously had the cost not been as high as it was. I would not recommend this hotel at this point, but would be interested in trying it again after the remodel is over.

Nightlife
We enjoyed Les Mis, with Alfie Boe (fantastic) as Jean Valjean. We also enjoyed "How to Be Happy", at the Orange Tree Theater in Richmond. Very interesting piece, "in the round". Well worth seeing.
