“Nicest basement rooms ever.”
The Clarendon is one of a group of small hotels all on the same street in Bloomsbury. When the receptionist told us we had a basement room, I was ready to be disappointed but she said 'It's a very nice room' and she was not wrong. The room was huge with two sitting areas, a desk and a full bathroom. It was exceptionallywell lit , which compensated for the half window, and nicely furnished so we did not feel at all hemmed in. On the down side, the room service menu is limited and the dining room is tiny. We advise guests to eat out at one of the many reasonably priced restaurants around - La Savoire Faire on New Oxford Road is one of the best. Cleaning staff do a good job but don't speak English and the lift was not working the day we left. The main attraction of the local area is the British Museum., minutes walk away, and that is absolutely awesome and free, and you can buy your lunch there.
“Close walk to Covent Garden - nice location”
Nice hotel, friendly staff. I would definitely stay there again. I live down in Bournemouth and visited London while my brother from America was in town. The nearby parking garage was very secure and convenient. It was only about a ten minute walk to Covent Garden, but the Holburn area is nice and there are many restaurants and pubs nearby as well. I've stayed at many hotels in London, and for the price, this is up there.
“Will never go back. Will never stay at any "Grange Hotel"”
The whole experience was unpleasant. We had to change rooms on arrival, as the room I had booked and payed for was not what we were given. I had reserved a queen suite with a sofa bed - that was the description on expedia, but was told I had not chose the sofa bed, and had to pay for it. Once we payed for the upgrade, we were moved to an amazing room... which just so happened to be in the basement, and right under the kitchen. We did not sleep because of the kitchen noise ALL NIGHT LONG, so were moved to a not so amazing, but still good room the next day. The horrible part of the experience was on check out. I had asked reception to unlock our phone, so I could make some calls. He warned me that using the phone would be expensive, but I told him that I have an international calling card. He then said "ok, but you'll still have to pay one pound per phone call". Annoying, but fine. I made 3 calls, so 3 pounds right? Wrong. My bill was for 112 pounds, because I had dialed "the wrong kind of toll free number"! I was livid! We had the manager come to speak to us, but he was unacommadating and rude. I will never stay at any "Grange Hotel" ever again.
“Great hotel, except for one thing...”
Everything was excellent: cleanliness, service, area, etc. But the rooms don't have A/C, so the top floor on the street side was unacceptable because of the heat & traffic noise. They moved us the next day to a lower floor on the garden side, and it was fine. We really liked the hotel and would go back, but maybe not in the middle of summer.
“Ridiculously overpriced and poorly maintained”
I chose this hotel only because the Grange Holborn nearby was booked, and I was intown for a week on business. I just needed a quiet place to get some work done. When I first checked in, I was shown to a small room below ground level. I unpacked, and connected my laptop to begin working. The "high speed internet" they supposedly had, didn't even have a jack in the wall. Called the front desk and they moved me to another room on the lowest level. This room (room 9 I believe, had a staff room directly across the hallway, where I could listen to the staff on the phone or talking amongst themselves all day. It was directly beneath the dining room, which sounded like a herd of cattle running around the next morning from 6-9AM. There was also a storage room right outside the window which was opened and closed throughout the night. I went down the next morning, and asked the somewhat grumpy staff members for yet another room. They told me to wait for an hour and they would move me. I waited three hours, and was finally shown to a room on the top floor. The hallways in this hotel weren't even large enough to wheel my suitcase down. The real tragedy here is that rooms at a "modern" hotel, like the Grange Holborn, were actually cheaper. As I went over there each day I was impressed by the courteous and helpful staff. Too bad I couldn't get a room there! Save your money and time, and avoid this hotel, and the whole slew of identical Grange hotels on this street.
“Great Hotel”
I booked this hotel for myself my sister and my mum to celebrate her birthday and it was wonderful. The rooms were really nice the staff were brilliant and the hotel was in a really nice location. i would go back there again.
“Good hotel”
From arrival to departure, our stay was smooth and comfortable. The room was small but had everything it needed and bathroom more than adequate with an excellent shower. Didn't breakfast there so can't comment on food. Every member of staff we encountered was friendly and professional. Location is excellent: 5 mins from British museum and close to transport links. Would definitely stay here again at current prices.
“Good for a Short Stay”
We only stayed here for one night. The welcome was friendly and relaxed and the hotel was clean. The bed however, a queen, was too small for 2 people! We managed for the one night but any more that than and we would have been struggling! Breakfast wasn't included in our rate and was a staggering 24 quid so needless to say it didn't happen!
“Good hotel with a little more space”
The Clarendon is a nice little boutique hotel in a quiet street but centrally located. The room had a little more room than other hotels I've stayed at in London of a similar level. Good service, reasonably priced!
“Klein aber fein”
Das Zimmer war echt klein aber sehr schön eingerichtet. Einzige Kritikpunkte sind die fehlende Minibar und WLan gab es auch nicht. Ansonsten ist das Hotel absolut zu empfehlen. Man ist innerhalb von 5 Minuten auf der Oxford Street. Vom Service haben wir nicht viel in Anspruch genommen, aber jede Frage wurde sofort sehr freundlich beantwortet.
