“HOTEL BREAK IN”
Do not consider staying at any of the hotels on Bedford Place. There are a number of hotels that all share the same buildings. The security is only controlled by a CCTV and allows easy access from the street. During the July 9th weekend, mine and a number of rooms were broken into at the Portland Hotel (we booked Buckingham, but was staying in the adject building). There are a number of other hotels in the area that are set up as hotels and not converted apartments. Luckily nothing was stolen, but we were very suspicious of the security and closed our drapes when putting items in the safe immediately upon arrival. It seems like the only thing the thieves were looking for were either cash or passports. Our jewelry and electronics were not taken. The hotel manager was very well trained in this situation and did all that someone in her position could. It would have been a nice gesture from the hotel to pay for some drinks, a meal or one of our nights. I think they should invest some serious money changing the layout of the hotels and better security and not just cameras.
“The Buckingham London”
The hotel advertises it has airport shuttle. It does not. They book a taxi and charge YOU for it. The hotels says it has air conditioning. It does not. Even when it says there are fans, it is not adequeate in summertime. Staff did not speak proper English so they do not properly understand and argued with me instead of trying to help. Very disappointed on the quality of hotel and service given it extremely expensive rates.
“History comes alive.”
The Buckingham is a terrific small hotel located in a historic area of London. It is near many restaurants and shops and is a convenient walking distance from many of the London tourist attractions. Beautiful parks are nearby and are excellent places to enjoy the day when down time is needed! The hotel service is well done and friendly--- but note that it is not air conditioned.
“Quiet but central location”
We had a great stay in London in this quiet, but central location. The addition of the kitchenette in the room is a great plus and with the availability of supermarkets nearby made breakfast in the room a cheap option. We stayed for 8 nights and the room was very comfortable although more storage for clothes would have been useful for such a long stay. We will definitely stay here (or in one of the sister hotels on the street) again.
“Highly Impressed”
Location and hotel quality are really good. I never try their breakfast coz I was always late.
“A good facility in a pleasant location”
The hotel is really a 'do it yourself' facility. Having said that everything necessary was available and we didn't have to ask for anything. The bed was comfortable and the bed linen was good. We happened to be on the basement floor where the stair carpet to the entrance hall was quite worn - not good on the stairs. Overall the hotel is quiet and very convenient and easy to get a taxi as the British Museum is close by. Breakfast in the restaurant is expensive. Much better to walk a few hundred yards and get two good breakfasts for the price of one continental breakfast at the hotel. The hotel is well worth a visit and we will stay there again sometime.
“Not Impressed”
It's not a 4* hotel at all. Nothing much for complain, because me and my sister steid for only 1 night. Thev gave us room with a sofa bed (instead of 2 twins). Sleeping on a bad sofa was...you know. But it was only 1 night. Breakfast was so expensive! We find a lovely caffeteria on our way to the tube and have good breakfast there for 1/3 price.
“Would gladly stay there again”
Perfect place to visit London and especially the British Museum. Spacious room with two sofas and a kitchenette with small ref, sink, and microwave.
“Very good stay”
the hotel is very clean, small - only 17 rooms, located at a calm area, good facilities, including a mini kitchen in the room, room very comfortable.
“Great small hotel, great location”
location can't be beat! Quiet, cute, townhouse street, one block from Russell Square. Small hotel with character. We had a very nice, newly furnished room with a kitchenette. Large by London standards. Marble bath with tub/shower. HDTV. Ask for a room on the upper floors for better ventilation. NO AC. Relatively cheap parking is within one block. Location has a residential feel but is one block from shops and restaurants around Russell Square. British Museum is around the corner. Covent Garden and the Strand are an easy 5-10 minute walk.
