The walls are very thin, so you can hear every noise. The rooms were also very stuffy and hot, only one attendant was helpful with this issue on our last night.

Location great, staff very friendly, professional and attentive. Hotel is very tastefully appointed and decorated. We stayed in one of the Bloomsbury Suites and on arrival the Toilet had a strong sewage smell from the drains. Tried the usual, flushing the loo and running water down all drains but to no avail. Were rushing out for dinner and reported to duty manager - housekeeping tried their best with cleaning products but on return it only masked the smell and in the morning we asked to move rooms. Hotel had been full on the Friday night and we had to wait till other guests had checked out. It was my daughters wedding that day and she was getting ready in our room for the registry office just after lunchtime. The staff moved all of belongings to a new suite while we were out for the day/ evening celebrating with family. We were given a welcome complimentary gift for our troubles. Whilst the staff dealt with the issue effectively and as quickly as possible. However my only disappointment was somebody must have known about the problem and the room should not have been let in the first place. I would be amazed if a previous guest or housekeeping hadn't noticed the overpowering sewage smell. On balance it wouldn't stop me staying at the academy again.

Overall, a very comfortable stay with a very comfortable bed, clean linen and towels. However, the en suite was probably one of the smallest I have ever had to use. As a 5ft 4" size 10 lady, I could only sit sideways on the toilet and struggled to get in the shower then close the door. The air conditioning could not be set below 19 and was incredibly loud. There were also water stains on the carpet/curtains which I wouldn't usually expect in an SLA property. The biggest issue for me though is that on check-in, I was asked for my physical credit card so the staff member could take an advance of £30 from my account in case of damages. This wasn't a notional but an actual payment. When I later asked who would make the decision on whether or not there had been any damage, I was told that this wasn't the case, it was in case of theft or use of mini bar and that I would be refunded within 5 days. So the hotel took £30 from my current account and I am now waiting for a refund.

The staff couldn’t be kinder, and this place is great. We were two friends traveling from the US and each booked a twin room, we stayed for a week. Yes, the rooms were on the small side but there’s plenty of storage for your things and they let you stash your suitcases downstairs. Comfy, cozy rooms with generous amenities, decent heat. The common areas are great for hanging out, respectably stocked bar. Cannot image a better location. Stay here and be happy you did! And oh-the neighborhood restaurants around the corner are fabulous, as is the bookstore!

The Bloomsbury Suite was fabulous!
This hotel was a fabulous experience. We managed to bag the Bloomsbury Suite for 60% off during the down season. I checked the reservation again and saw that same booking made just a month later than we did would have been 2.5 times the price. Keep an eye out for that deal. The staff at check in were prompt and polite. At check out, they minded our bags until we returned to collect them for our flight. Every time I had a question or a request for towels, toiletries etc. they had it sorted by the time I returned to the room. The room was cleaned each afternoon and turned down each evening. The room itself was spacious and comfortable. A really lovely suite in very central London for an extremely reasonable price. The hotel itself is very nice if a little small. Perfect for couples or people who like to travel low key. There was pleasant looking and busy bar that I didn’t manage to use during my stay. There was a tranquil and cosy library that I did use. A very pleasant place indeed to spend some time. Breakfast was served continental with an option for hot food. My only major complaint was that it was not made fully clear to me at reception that the hot breakfast was an extra charge. It did say on the menu that there was a £15 pound charge for continental and hot breakfast, but having already payed for breakfast online, I assumed that was included. I probably should’ve asked. The breakfast itself was also a little limited but you can forgive that of such a small hotel.

Not a 5* hotel. Air-con in the room doesn’t work. Felt slightly scammed by booking a room that “included breakfast” only to discover that if you want an actual hot breakfast you have to pay extra. Walls are paper thin so you can hear everything next door.

Staff were fabulous. Had an issue with my room and they couldn’t have been more understanding in moving me. Breakfast was tasty, with plenty of options. Near Warren Street underground, an easy walk to Leicester Square, and Store Street just around the corner for wonderful independent coffee shops and wine bars. Would stay again!

It was in a good location. Walking distance to theatres. Was in a basement room. Carpet quite dirty and the stairs down to both the room and the breakfast room were quite steep which elderly mother find difficult, particularly as there was no handrail down to breakfast room. Very cute hotel in a great location near a park, restaurants, museum. The hotel was not notified about our VIP "perks" and when asked they needed to contact Expedia, once that happened we received a small bottle of wine and they were able to upgrade our room for three of our five nights (which was a wonderful room!) Breakfast was quite nice and there were a couple of nice lounge areas where we enjoyed resting after busy days! They also had a nice courtyard where we enjoyed a bottle of champagne that we brought with us from France (the patio was not too clean, however, we had to wipe off the chairs and table prior to our use but once that was done it was very peaceful and comfy!)

No elevator & not luxury
I'm very surprised to find it part of the SLH group. There's no elevator, and I had to hike up 57 steps every time to my room. I have a bad hip, which only made the situation worse. The stair motion lights come on, but when you're about halfway up the flight. The railing is rickety. Holes in the walls along the stairs, including a fire alarm that's literally hanging out of the wall. They did have signs up "wet paint" and "pardon the mess", so it looks like they're working on it, but I'm shocked at how bad it had to get before they started the work! Room was ok, but no full length mirror, dark & very tiny shower. Walls are paper thin so I could hear conversations from others, and the door had enough of a gap for the light to shine through all night (yes, the ONLY light that stayed on in the hallway was outside my room). Staff were wonderful, lobby & sitting area are nice, as well as the bar. Breakfast was fine, and staff pleasant. Area is nice for easy transportation, walkable, restaurants, etc. I won't stay again because of the elevator situation. Had I known there wasn't one, I'd have stayed elsewhere.

On the down side, I was on the top floor with no lifts and lots of stairs although this is to be expected in this type of old building. Also, there was insufficient room to actually open my suitcase on the floor so had to rearrange some furniture. On the plus side, the hotel is well positioned close to tube stations and easy walking up to Euston Road or down to New Oxford St and beyond. The thing I found exceptional however was the quality of the staff both individually and their collective cohesion. Really first class from my experience - well done!

The Hotel is in a great location and is very well maintained. The staff were plentiful and very polite. The continental breakfast was great and the coffee excellent. I don't know whether it was just our room but the ensuite bathroom was tiny. You had to sit underneath the sink when you were on the loo tiny!

We were given a basement room which had no view other than a scruffy wall. We only stayed 1 night so it was ok but had we been staying longer this would have bothered me. Friendly, helpful staff and hotel in a good location. My advice would be to ask for a room on an upper floor.

If you like staying in a small hotel, this is a nice one. It's particularly good for theater lovers as you can walk home in the evening after seeing a show. It is very clean. The single rooms are very small--no place to put my suitcase for example--and the breakfast just passable. And yet I would stay again.

Lovely property in a great location. The common areas are quite beautiful. Rooms are small, at least mine was, but well appointed. Staff were exceptionally welcoming and helpful -- absolutely as good as in gets on that score. Be aware that it is three stories and no elevator. If you end up on the top floor, you get a lot of exercise. Staff members will bring your luggage up and down, though, and are charmingly apologetic as you are lead up, up, and up to your room. Bottom line is I loved staying there and will again next time I am in London.

Great place - unless you have mobility challenges
The Academy appears to be a newly renovated hotel carved out of a pre-pre-war building. The location is central and convenient. It is 5-10 minute walk from the Goodge underground, British Museum, University College London, University of London and . New Oxford Street and the Tottenham underground station are a 10-15 minute walk. Many eating places are nearby. The staff was absolutely wonderful - friendly, efficient, helpful. My room (a single, twin bed) was small but not overly small by London standards. Everything was clean and well-maintained. Wifi worked fine. Breakfast had a good selection. So all said, on these measures, I would normally strongly recommend that Academy. That said, the Academy is NOT the place for anyone with mobility problems. The Academy would never allowed to operate in the USA because it is not ADA (Americans with Disability Act) compliant. There is not an elevator and the stairs (from basement where breakfast is served) to the top floor are steep with either rickety handrails or no handrails. When I checked in (I am a senior citizen) the desk clerk nearly tore my bags out of my hands to carry them for me up 3 flights of stairs, I think knowing that I would have a problem doing it myself. If you have any mobility problems, I cannot recommend staying at the Academy. If you are disability free with no mobility problems, then the Academy will be a great place to stay in central London.

The property was quite a long walk from Tottenham Ct tube station. The fire alarm went off in the middle of the night and I had a difficult time getting back to sleep. I do not know why they would be working on it when it might disturb guests. I have been double charged for my bar bill and it is still unresolved.

We were not offered a room upgrade, per VIP status. Bring UK adapters because the hotel may run out to offer any to you. Room was clean. Intern continental breakfast was good (croissants, toast, ham, cheese, cold cuts, coffee, tea, fruit, juice). Not centrally located to touristy sites but hotel is in a nice quiet area, near the British Museum (very cool. Free. Go check it out)
