“Nice but rooms too small”
When booking a room I placed 2 guests in my search, when I arrived I was asked how many people are staying, I said just me, when I went to my room , I was given a shoe closet, small would be an understatement. I called reception and they said I was only 1 so I got the single room and they couldn't upgrade, I called the number on my expedia confirmation to complain , but it actually was the hotels number, they said they would investigate and call back, only to tell me the same thing as the front desk, I called expedia on the right number, expedia called them and within 1 minute the reception called and said that they were called by expedia, and they were upgrading my room, expedia called me back as I was still on the phone with reception. Great Job Expedia, no so great shaftsbury hotel. The new room was still small, but at least it had a double bed and the toilet was very small with a shower only , no bath. But it was clean, area was not bad, depending on what u want. Between Edgware Rd and Paddington station. So other than the rooms being extremely small by London Standard, it was not bad.
“Good quality hotel”
Hotel has been recently renovated and is in a good condition. The room was nicely appointed and whilst not huge, had everything you need and was very combfortable. The bathroom in particular was nicely finished. The location is ok. It is a good 10 minute walk to Paddington and there are many tourist attractions that close by, but if you are happy to use the tube to get where you want then this hotel represents good value for money. Ask for an upstairs room.
“Value and comfort with a great shower!”
Very pleasantly surprised The hotel was clean, compact with an amazing shower. Rooms were clean and well appointed. Air con worked well. Great value for money. Staff very friendly! Good location.
“Hotel in London with very good location”
Hotel is 2 to 3 blocks away from Heathrow Xpress /Paddington. It's a 7 min walk with luggage. Some of the staff could be more helpful. Hot Water stopped one morning for 2 plus hours and they never ring the room to gave an explanation. Clean. Rooms a little bit tight for 2 persons but one can live with it. Breakfast is basic english and continental, very expensive and not include on our room rate.
“Conveniently priced, good location”
Very nice, clean hotel. A bit small, but this is common in London. Conveniently located 5 min walk from Paddington, where you can catch the Heathrow Express, as well as the Cirle Line that goes to Central London. Would stay here again, if rate is like it was when I booked.
“I would stay there again.”
The staff were helpful and friendly. The atmosphere of the hotel was warm and welcoming.
“Decent to Average”
About what I expected for a London hotel.
“People friendly, awesom Location all you will need for a short stay! :)”
The hotel is very nicely located a couple of blocks from the paddington Underground station as well as the Heathrow express station that links the airport to the city center. Other than that the staff are very helpful exp the door guys who help bring your stuff in very helpful. the rooms or rather the room i had was really small but having travelled alone it was just right for me all i needed was in the room except for a frigde and microwave lol... other wise it was a great stay nearbuy resturants and surveniours shops. I really reccommen this hotel for anyone coming in and out for a short stay esp on bizness it isn't really a honeymoon resort kinda place but it does the trick for those of us who want to come into london spend as much time outdoors and come back to bed. If you can over look the size of the rooms you will enjoy your stay 4sure !!!! all in all i loved it.
“Small but good quality”
Although the rooms are small (which is the norm for buildings in this area) they were very well furnished and the beds were comfortable. They even included an ironing table There was internet access in the foyer of the hotel. The breakfasts (though not included in the room rate) were good with a choice of Continental or full english and the costs were very reasonable. The staff were pleasant and helpful. I would certainly go again.
“Fantastic, newly remodeled hotel in a great location!”
We could not be more pleased with our recent stay at the Shaftesbury Metropolis, London Hyde Park. First, the hotel has recently been remodeled, with new furniture and a lovely, well designed bathroom as well. While the rooms are somewhat small (like in any city hotel), they are arranged very well, using the space quite effectively. We (2 tall people) were very comfortable throughout our visit. Second, the service at the hotel was wonderful. They checked us in early, as they had a room available when we arrived around 10am, and were courteous throughout our visit. The lobby area has 2 computers with free internet access, which is very helpful, and also is constantly supplied with yummy cookies (or 'biscuts') and coffee and fruit. We never ate at the hotel for breakfast, so we can't comment on that, except to say that a somewhat cheaper breakfast is generally available at several places along the 2 block walk (esp on Praed St.) from the hotel to Paddington tube station. Third, the location of this hotel is fantastic. You are no more than a 5 minute walk from the Paddington tube station, which connects to several underground lines. Furthermore, the hotel itself is only one or two stops away from lots of great destinations (e.g. Notting Hill, the various Royal Parks, etc.) In all, this was a fantastic hotel. We were thrilled with our stay, and would gladly return.
