“Water Leak ON THE BED at 2 am! And no acceptable solutions.”
We chose this hotel because it was cheap and almost downtown London. We did not expect anything fancy, because we would just use it as a place to crash after the long days of sight seeing. Well, the least we expected was that it would allow us to sleep a restful sleep - the minimum any one requires from a lodging place. However, here's a few things that were displeasing for a restful sleep: 1-The hotel room was in the basement. 2-It had no windows. 3-It had no phone or any way to call the reception desk which was located in another building. But here's the major issue that prevented us from having a restful night of sleep: AT 2 AM A MAJOR LEAK FROM THE CEILING ON TO MY HUSBAND'S SIDE OF THE BED STARTED FALLING ON HIM AND COMPLETELY SOAKED HIS SIDE OF THE MATTRESS. THE HOTEL STAFF INFORMED US THAT THE LEAK WAS SOMEONE'S BATH WATER!!!!! THEY TOLD US TO WAIT FOR THE LEAK TO STOP AND THE OFFERED US TOWELS TO PUT UNDER THE SHEET!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? YOU DON'T OFFER TOWELS TO YOUR CHILD IF HE WETS HIS BED IN OWN PEE! YOU DON'T OFFER GUESTS TOWELS SO THEY CAN KEEP ON SLEEPING ON SOMEONE ELSE'S BATH WATER!!!!! After I yelled at everyone I could, they miraculously found us another room with instructions to leave it by 10 am and go back to our old one. Needless to say we left that house of horrors very early in the morning and went to a Days Inn near Big Ben.
“Ideal for Kings College Hospital”
An ideally located hotel when you need to visit Kings College Hospital. The hotel is sited on a main road and some traffic noise is always present. Rooms are clean, staff are friendly and the breakfast is continental.
“Avoid this hotel if possible”
The only thing this hotel has going for it is its just out side zone 1. And if you are travelling light (think almost no luggage) then maybe, you can use this simply as a pad to crash - but thats all. Otherwise we dont recommend this hotel - 1) Its a 20-min bus ride from Oval tube station(bus nos. 36 or 436). The buses are often crowded so all the best if you have luggage!!! 2) It is in a run-down area (for new yorkers, think harlem or bronx). It is terribly in need of maintenance. The corridors were smelly and dingy with paint and construction peeling off. 3) Rooms were terrible. Our first was TINY - even by London standards and any luggage you have will eat away the remaining space. We were moved to a slightly better room but were shocked to hear that was one of their best suites 4) Guests cannot make phone calls. THey can only receive calls only in those rooms that have a phone base unit - many dont even have that. There is not even a payphone inside the hotel. You have to go out each time if you want to make a call and there is no phone booth in front of the hotel(Our cells did not have international roaming) 5) Breakfast was terrible!!!. No eggs, coffee was of the instant or powdered variety; breakfast room seemed to be some kind of a store room hastily converted with some chairs, tables and dirty table-cloth 6) No table clock in any room. Wake-up call is manual if they remember to knock on your door 7) Unhelpful staff - they dont even keep toll-free airline numbers
“Unusual not bad budget hotel”
I've stayed at Peckham Lodge on two occasions within days of each other. The hotel was formerly a Union HQ and is just over a hundred years old; it is a distinctive building on a corner with a recent extension on the side. On no account is this a luxury hotel or anything close to one! On my first stay I had a basement room without a window but with acceptable air conditioning; there was one working ceiling light and the bedside lamp never worked and was never fixed despite my requests. The bathroom was modern with a good shower. Overall it was a fairly tight space but reasonable - as long as you can live without a window (I'm sure upper floors include windows!). On my second visit I had a "basic" room which was more spacious in the modern block on the side; this was seemingly reserved for temporary/long term housing for families and I shared the bathroom with the occupants of 2 other rooms. As long as you timed things well this was no great problem but if you were in a hurry you could easily have problems! The bathroom was very run-down indeed; just about everything was falling to pieces. There was a shared kitchen where you could cook or boil the kettle but I couldn't understand why there was no proper bin anywhere but in the bathroom - or out in the street. All residents could avail themselves of a free breakfast served from 0730. The offering was an unchanging and basic choice of cereal and toast with fruit juice and tea/coffee. Not too bad; good bus links.
“Spend the extra money”
As far as cheap hotels go, this one was about average. The sheets and bathroom were clean but there were ants all over. One entire wall had windows (with a view of the back of some apartment buildings) with three of them opening. Only one of the windows were we able to close fully and lock. The other two appeared to be in the lock position but opened, so you could not close them all the way. This was worrisome as we were gone all during the day and one of the windows was accessible from a low roof. We asked the staff to fix it, but when we returned in the evening the two broken windows were still broken and the one functioning window was locked and we weren't able to open it at all. No good on a warm summer night in a room with no a/c and not a single fan available. The free 'breakfast' was toast and cornflakes and you better get there early or you won't get a seat. The location was quite far from the city center. There are no tube stations within walking distance but there were a couple of bus stops close-by. The bus is fine if you don't mind being on it for a while. The commute to Liverpool tube station took half an hour. The neighborhood is a little scary, but there are lots of fast food restaurants, shops, a grocery store and movie theater. Overall not a horrible experience, but I wouldn't recommend it to a friend.
“Loved the neighborhood pub, the Greyhound - wonderful people”
The lodge was great. The underground was closed at the stop closest to the hotel so it was a bit of a journey to get there, but surrounding pubs had great people. We had a wonderul time
“It's ok for younger couples on the go”
For the basic room it was cheap, private and clean. There was a large refridgerator and a grocery store right around the corner so that was perfect. We had to share a bathroom that was in bad need of cleaning and repairs. Continental breakfast means toast, corn bran and juice. The hotel is about an 8 minute walk from the train station and about a 12 minue train ride to the tower bridge area where all the mjor attractions are. The neighborhood is a lower income one but we had no trouble whatsoever. Not a bad hotel if you arent to pampered. I would stay there again for the cheap shopping and the cheap hotel.
“Unexpected experience”
Not satisfactory
“I recommend you trying to find other hotel.”
If you can spend 5 euros more to get something better do it. This hotel is very dirty, and it is far from the central london. It is not a two star hotel, it only desserves 1/2 star. When you find on expedia it looks like a good option, but it is not, and besides the breakfast is only bread with coffee, thats it.
“very nice hotel”
very good price, very nice people to help you with anything, easy access to downtown or city atractions...
